A terrible tragedy. I hope the authorities pull out all the stops to find and bring those responsible to justice.

I think any driver would have been aware of so many people in his truck. If he's been paid then it's murder with a capital M !
The delay in getting to Essex from Holyhead speaks volumes.

But it's not politics is it? It's perfectly obvious that something needs to be done.

Until proper preventative measures are in place, tragic cases like this will continue won't they? Surely everyone can see that ?

Awful, the truck was a sealed refrigerated container , the oxygen would not last long.
According to the BBC the truck came from Ireland via Holyhead, the customs checks there are not as strict as Dover and with convincing paperwork didn’t get checked. The driver probably had no idea, to him it was just another truck, wether the traffickers are ever caught is doubtful.

I am actually crying here. For the love of God, these are our fellow human beings, Mums, Dads, somebodys mate they played with , somebodys school friend. Not statistics or people trying to sneek into the Promised Land.

Perhaps this is not the place for politics.

RIP those poor souls.

Horrendous - absolutely horrendous . These poor people, what they must have gone through is beyond words. RIP.

On our local newsfeed (I am in Essex) it is being reported that the lorry travelled from Bulgaria entering UK on Saturday via Holyhead Anglesey. It doesn’t take four days from Anglesey to Grays.

The driver a 25yr old Irish man is in custody.

This is indeed, horrific.

But this most certainly isn't the first time and I doubt it will be the last.

A similar event happened in 2000. 58 Chinese immigrants suffocated to death in a lorry when the air vent was closed. Two survived. Lorry driver was sentenced to 14 years.

This is terrible and I am would hope that the full weight of the law will be brought down on those responsible.

Also this perfectly illustrates just how correct Pritti Patel is in her determination to crack down on immigrants trying to enter our country illegally.

I hope it was not just words though.

Clearly more money and resources are needed to tackle this problem by properly securing all our ports, not just Dover.

Until the message gets across that it is impossible to try to sneak in here illegally, this will continue.

How terrible trafficking is such an appalling crime, particularly when people are treated like disposable commodities and are at risk of such an awful fate.

I hope my D never has to be faced with anything like this as her job is to check vehicles coming and going to/from NI . Stena do these sailings to/from Holyhead and Birkenhead. That lorry clearly wasn't checked .

I was crying this morning when the news broke. Poor souls.

I feel for the paramedics and those who have to be involved.

What have we become? How will they trace their families? What did they go through?

Driver was 25 years old. I think of my sons.

I felt sick - sick for those poor people but also for the poor person who found them.
