Thinking about the 50p coins which have been minted and are not now being used, what else can you list that was 'definite' and how long did it last before being pulled?

I'll start with an easy one: SJ said there would definitely be a budget in November and then, less than 24 hours later, said there wouldn't.

I wouldn’t presume to imagine what HM is thinking

Oh lighten up people ... it’s a J-O-K-E! Jeez.

I think Her Majesty is thinking "just stop this brexit nonsense"

She cannot speak about politics in public but we all remember her lovely blue and yellow hat.

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 20:22:55

I wouldn’t presume to imagine what HM is thinking after she was lied to by BJ et al.

Again, a shameful waste of money.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 20:22:24

Oh well, the batch of special Brexit 50p coins minted with October 31 are expected to become collectors' items now that it looks almost certain Britain will not have left the EU by then.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 20:20:21

Three million coins - imprinted with the Brexit date of 31 October - were planned to be ready to spend by the end of the month.

A further seven million coins would have been struck in the first year. The plans were approved by the Queen earlier this month.

I like this take on it. Bet HM is thinking ‘just get on with it!’

A shameful waste of money, our money is Johnson's shameful trademark. How does he keep getting away with it?

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 20:10:09

No, not rubber stamped Urm, although that was a nice try - actually signed off and put in motion by BJ and his idiot cronies at a time when the 31st Oct was looking very doubtful. Hammond had proposed 10,000 limited edition collectors coins - this lot then instructed up to 10 million to be put into circulation. A shameful waste of money.

My daughter lives in Urmston in Trafford Manchester and is a SRN at Davyhulme

It’s a small world!

Callistemon Sun 27-Oct-19 19:48:50

I am still hankering after one of those 50p coins!

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 19:47:30

Proposed under TM Urm that’ll do Scj it validates what I said, thank you. Rubber stamped by Boris.
?

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 19:16:18

Proposed under TM Urm and “approved at a meeting of the Privy Council on 8 October (2019) attended among others by Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg. The Royal Mint, which is owned by the government, said it would not comment on how many coins had been made and what would happen to them now, saying this was "commercially sensitive".” (BBC)

So yes, this was down to Boris.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 19:11:34

Anthea the 50p coins were proposed under Theresa May.
Not everything is down to Boris you know!

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 19:09:40

I was just illustrating that this Brexit thread isn’t any different from all the others Nonnie

Anthea1948 Sun 27-Oct-19 18:44:40

Oh. I'd assumed the 50p thing was a joke. I didn't realise they actually had minted them. How arrogant of BJ.

£350 million for the NHS

Nonnie Sun 27-Oct-19 16:08:37

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 13:34:01 why did you need to post that? WEre you complementing her on being so knowledgeable? Do you have any quotes showing how right the Brexit camp was?

MarthaBeck Sun 27-Oct-19 15:16:47

My daughter lives in Urmston in Trafford Manchester and is a SRN at Davyhulme. She tells me that her and many colleagues have a fear of the problems Brexit will create for the NHS, so many of the drugs and medical supplies come from within the EU. She likes me does not accept Brexit will be a Utopia and worth such a blindfolded risk for us to gamble on.

MarthaBeck Sun 27-Oct-19 14:52:39

‪As I get into my late age I really do have a fear about a Brexit for my grandchildren. We seem to be playing a game of high stakes poker at the moment. The Gov refusal to release the facts on Brexit adds to the fears. I am not prepared to gamble on others political prejudices.‬ I am not going to repeat the errors of the past. I am NOT voting Conservative at next GE, I shall vote Lib Dem.

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 14:41:56

It never crossed my mind - and I voted No. I don’t know anyone who voted on the basis on the outcome of a referendum that was still two years in the future.

mcem Sun 27-Oct-19 13:37:28

SirChenjin that claim made me stop and think but didn't change my mind about my vote.
A couple of fence-sitters I know did quote it in conversation but I don't know how they voted in the end.

Urmstongran Sun 27-Oct-19 13:34:01

Just peeped on this ‘different type of Brexit’ thread.

Not so different then!

Was a lighthearted tongue in cheek dragonfly

SirChenjin Sun 27-Oct-19 12:42:04

mcem that was one of many claims made by both sides. The Scottish referendum was 2 years before the EU one of course - and if you look closely at the post referendum analysis there’s little evidence to suggest that membership of the EU played a great part in the decision making behind voting to remain in the UK.

Nonnie Sun 27-Oct-19 12:27:10

TM vehemently said that she would never allow a border in the Irish sea, now she has voted for one.
