It is like picking apples from a tree

I can’t ever remember a time when so much negativity, scandal and down right lies emanated from a political party.

Those who are not Tory supporters are absolutely spoiled for choice it is becoming embarrassing.

These threads could be heaving with negative information.

utter utter despair

Urmstongran Tue 05-Nov-19 11:56:55

‘spoiled for choice’ maybe WWmk2 but beware ... some of the shiniest apples have a worm inside!

?? ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 05-Nov-19 11:59:22

ug you do understand that the apples are the Tories,?

Rufus2 Tue 05-Nov-19 11:59:30

I wrote " ouch " at the end of my post. It never fails !!
Ellen; They do say great minds think alike! winkI've just posted a message to Lemongrove (am I allowed to mention another thread?) before I read yours, also ending with "ouch!", only mine was concerned with me treading on toes at the forthcoming Christmas Ball in my dancing thongs. I wouldn't be game to walk on eggshells in them; it's not the thongs as such , but the weight they'll be carrying especially after all that Christmas Fayre! grin
Sorry for intruding and apologies to all the strait-lacers! sad

ellan would it have bothered you if Hilary Benn had been elected Speaker?

Gonegirl Tue 05-Nov-19 12:17:06

Oh leave EV alone! hmm It was a simple enough remark.

lemongrove Tue 05-Nov-19 12:19:08

Rufus you can mention my thread anytime you like?I shall look forward to seeing your dancing thongs.

Ellan it didn’t seem like a joke ( about the new Speaker ) more a criticism of his name.

Callistemon Tue 05-Nov-19 12:21:43

ug you do understand that the apples are the Tories,?

I was a bit confused whitewave, I know they have a tree as their logo but isn't it an oak tree?

lemongrove Tue 05-Nov-19 12:29:08

The apple metaphor isn’t obvious at all that the apples are the Tories, rather that it’s as easy as picking apples to insult them.
????

Callistemon Tue 05-Nov-19 12:30:56

We're off to the garden centre to try to get some of our apples identified, I may start giving them names now!

However, they are rather delicious so I'm having difficulty

Oopsminty Tue 05-Nov-19 12:32:35

Why would apples be Tories? I like apples.

Oopsminty Tue 05-Nov-19 12:33:25

And I am not saying I don't like Tories either. I know a few and they're very nice people

But I don't get the apple/Tory analogy

Maybe I'm just too old and confused

Callistemon Tue 05-Nov-19 12:38:21

Are Labour politicians pears?

I quite like this, we could choose different fruits (although I could be missing something in the analogy).

Lib Dems - plums?
Greens - kiwi fruit

lemongrove Tue 05-Nov-19 12:41:24

Our apple trees were very disappointing this year Callistemon barely got a few apple pies out of them.I blame the squirrels ( Tory ones)?

Rufus2 Tue 05-Nov-19 13:15:37

Guy Fawkes Day/ Night has just finished here! No bonfires,(illegal), toffee and so no effigies to stick on top. Are the Poms still allowed to observe G.F. or would effigies not be "politically correct" these days? grin

EllanVannin Tue 05-Nov-19 13:48:14

Rufus2 I can understand the illegality of bonfires in your neck of the woods-----for obvious reasons. Sainsbury's banned the selling of fireworks and just getting back from Asda, I passed the firework stall doing a roaring trade.

There could be a few effigies about as bonfires are still permitted, providing they're not real ones !

Callistemon Tue 05-Nov-19 15:06:47

Oh yes, Rufus and not just Guy Fawkes either.

Although I think at the moment he could be carried through the streets as a hero.

PamelaJ1 Tue 05-Nov-19 15:40:40

Rufus, may I just point out that thongs over here are known as an article of clothing that bears no resemblance to flip flops.??
Lemon you may be disappointed!

Oopsminty Tue 05-Nov-19 15:42:08

They burned an effigy of Bercow at a display over the weekend. It was on Jeremy Vine this morning.

Callistemon Tue 05-Nov-19 15:52:36

Oh no, he doesn't deserve that!

Gonegirl Tue 05-Nov-19 16:34:38

That's just horrible. Stick to Guy Fawkes.

ladymuck Tue 05-Nov-19 16:39:31

I'm glad they have chosen a man for the new speaker. Women don't have the right sort of voice for shouting 'order'!

Hilary is another 'unisex' name..and 'Marion' should be 'Meryon'.

Oopsminty Tue 05-Nov-19 16:41:09

I was quite surprised about Bercow.

They came to the conclusion he'd have found it amusing

Whitewavemark2 Tue 05-Nov-19 16:41:45

If you haven’t the stomach for it, I would stay away from Lewis then.

They’ve burned everyone over the years.

Oopsminty Tue 05-Nov-19 16:41:59

Betty Boothroyd was brilliant, ladymuck
