Very true Greeneyedgirl. The IFS did a study which showed that approximately 70% of people receive some form of benefit at some stage over their lifetime … and that's not counting state pension and child benefit (family allowance).

The reception for May's social care plan was strange. It would actually have benefited a significant number of the least wealthy. I couldn't understand why the Labour Party opposed it.

other people's money JE is what we all, in a civilised society should contribute through taxes, towards the well being of the elderly, sick and vulnerable.

Anyone of us could be dependant on state assistance, if our circumstances change.

The Labour party is very good at spending other people’s money.

I thought the Conservative manifesto was good. No idiotic spending promises which can’t be kept like the risible Labour one

Regarding Social Care BJ said he'd got a plan arranged, and now he's apparently afraid to tell us what it is, probably as TMs plan was so badly received.

Problem is, as someone said on Today Prog this morning, before an election voters don't want to hear that they will have to contribute financially to a social problem that doesn't concern them. Unless one is directly involved with an elderly person's care, people think that care is free.

Quite honestly the Tories have been in power long enough to deal with this major social crisis and they haven't. They will never get my vote, and I can't understand why anyone who isn't seriously rich would consider helping them into power, with several more years of the same.

Tories in 9 year have borrowed a trillion pounds- that is 111.11 billion per year. Tories have borrowed 7.5 times more than Labour and doubled what Labour borrowed in their total of 33 years in Government.

That message needs spreading. The Labour party is good with the economy. They just always receive it in a pretty awful state.

I think social care is a hot potato Luckygirl for the reasons you state, and think we have to get cross party census on it as otherwise each incoming government will change things.

Incredible and amazing tweet from Laura Kuensberg, who so far has seemed the Tories best ally. But she has turned, and not pulling her punches!

Are you suggesting that BJ is not making big spending promises?

I agree about the avoidance tactics when it come to social care - it is a massive political hot potato. None of the parties will handle it. Too scared to come clean about the huge funding implications.

There are no wild promises, that’s the good thing yeahbut
We have had more than enough of those from Comrade Corbyn last week.
What the UK now needs is a period of stability whilst we prepare to leave the EU.It’s easy to promise the earth until you get into a position of power, then see how hard it is to deliver on them.I am relieved by the manifesto, it has enough
Things in it to satisfy the needs of the country whilst still being deliverable.Future budgets can then tweak old policies
or create new ones.
This country needs to move on....and hopefully in a few weeks time with a Conservative win that’s exactly what will happen. All Conservative MP’s are now backing the EU deal.

Farage has praised the Tory manifesto.

I wonder, did he get to dictate half of it himself in return for agreeing not to stand Brexit Party candidates in Tory constituencies?

(I accidentally posted this on the wrong thread earlier.)

It's not "nothing" really Yehbutnobut. It's more of the same, including the lies and obfuscation even in such a small tract.

The nurses one has already been exposed - what next?

Tooting29 Mon 25-Nov-19 09:06:11

I think there is a little bit more than that. Maintenance Grant's for nurse training, no tax increases, get Brexit done, money for skills, etc. At least it is not over promising anything.

Yehbutnobut Mon 25-Nov-19 07:46:59

Manifesto! ?

Yehbutnobut Mon 25-Nov-19 07:46:17

Well, there you are...nothing!

No money to back Boris’ wild promises.
Austerity at an end ???
Social care...nought!
But all is not lost £2 billion for potholes?
