Of these, eight boarders were funded by the Conservative-controlled Norfolk LEA, which served Great Yarmouth.

The inspection report explained: 'Catholic boys allocated to grammar schools can take up aided places at St Joseph's.'

Former St Joseph's history teacher Michael Thuell, 77, explains further: 'If there was no Catholic grammar school in your area and … if you were Catholic and passed the 11-plus, you were sent to St Joseph's on a Local Education Authority grant.'

Just like Johnson had never used a mop in his life and pretends to have technology lessons from a pole dancer and ReesMogg thinks he is a man of the people and knows how much shoes cost etc etc we can all throw mud at almost any of them . Stop deflecting! This is about JMcD being economical with the truth. I genuinely thought he was working class and went to a state school.

How did the Sun reckon the fees were £38,000pa? Even now, they're just over £35,000 for full boarders. I bet the fees were a lot less when McDonnell went there. Does anybody have any proof he didn't receive a church grant and went for longer than two years? It's hardly a "posh" school in the same way that Eton is. It's not even a public school because the headteacher doesn't belong to HMC.

When he attended 50y ago (!) you could probably buy a house for what? ... £10k? And 50y ago my mum worked full time in a factory in Trafford Park for a tenner a week.

So yes, his parents (or the LEA) will have paid nothing like that but as I say, relativity counts. The Sun paper will have been quoting today’s fees.

It’s still double the wages per year of most working class men!

His parents didn’t pay for it - the quote from the Daily Grub that I posted upthread explains how and why some boys fees were paid.
