Do the polls influence how you vote?

I've seen a few people say they will vote Conservative because they are ahead in the polls.

Do you base your vote on being on the "winning" team?

Do you vote by policy?

Do you stick to a political party like this is football and support your team no matter how badly they play?

Do you think you shouldn't bother voting because the polls say your party won't win? (you should anyway)

Do the polls impact you?

So, people seem to want a cheerful, confident liar who abandoned his children and has had numerous affairs, and who glibly uses racist and misogynistic language. When I want to listen to a comedian, I tend to watch professional comedic performances not the PM.

Yes, his personal life does matter, because it gives the clearest possible indication of how he treats others, even his own offspring. Do you truly believe he cares about you and yours?

I take no notice of polls I vote on manifestos not media fodder

SirChenjin Sun 08-Dec-19 16:09:30

According to some on another thread Ginny he’s positive/funny/looks like he loves his girlfriend so they’re happy to vote for him. It’s unbelievable how low some people set the bar for their vote.

I think a lot of people share Boris's views. Only explanation I can think of

MaizieD Sun 08-Dec-19 16:22:10

At least Corbyn looks and talks like a proper grownup...

So different from Billy Bunter Boris...

GillT57 Sun 08-Dec-19 16:26:58

Being funny/looking as if he loves his current partner are not grounds for electing a leader which most of us would be horrified to have as a son in law or boss. Some people certainly do set their expectations very low.

Yes, it's a good impression of someone who knows what they're talking about.
grin grin grin

Whereas BJ doesn’t even try to sound like he has a clue what’s coming out of his mouth or going on around him.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 08-Dec-19 16:41:14

No I have already made up my mind based on what they stand for.

Elegran Sun 08-Dec-19 16:44:47

If I am influenced at all by polls, it is in the reverse - if everyone is voting to get one party in, I would rather throw my weight behind a different party, to get a more balanced Parliament. A one-party Government is not a good government.

NannyC2 Sun 08-Dec-19 16:56:44

Not at all. I vote for who I feel is going to do best for the country

Cherrytree59 Sun 08-Dec-19 17:47:54

No.
We have already voted.
Postal much easier than venturing on a cold December day, especially if the weather is bad.

I doubt the polls will represent the harassed workers who will be returning home on 12th Dec, possibly after a dark commute and maybe having also done the school run, ready to cook tea and sort Christmas out.
Who will then think sod it!
I can't be bothered to go back out, (drag the kids) on a cold dark night.

No

Nanniejc1 Sun 08-Dec-19 20:01:40

No,polls don’t make any difference.......I’m for Brexit so will definitely vote for Boris.....Corbyn will destroy our country & cant stand the Lib Dem’s woman, can’t see how they can be called Democrats......should definitely be Lib Undemocrats!!

Ooeyisit Sun 08-Dec-19 20:19:24

No my mind is made up from my own brain cells not from someone else’s . The polls are fun but not always accurate .

Anniel Sun 08-Dec-19 22:56:56

Can I ask a question of Scots here? I love your country and enjoyed a wonderful two weeks in summer touring. I think if you want independence that is fine with me , but once you get it and the Barnett formula money stops, will the money from oil, tourism and your famous products be enough to provide? Please do not think I am having a nasty go at the Scots. Thry are generally wonderful people.,I am just curious.

NannyG123 Mon 09-Dec-19 08:13:15

No,I voted for the party I thought best for the country. I don't really trust any of them.

Yehbutnobut Mon 09-Dec-19 08:30:06

You see Nanniejcl that is the attitude I can’t understand.

You think you are ‘taking back control’ of your country perhaps! But in real terms you are handing our country to the likes of Trump.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 10-Dec-19 15:38:00

I am very puzzled by the polls. They simply don’t reflect what I am hearing on the ground and reading on social media.

This might be one reason why

Starblaze Tue 10-Dec-19 15:43:41

Whitewave, labour voters are the most worn down demographic. I hope they ignore the polls and use their vote

Whitewavemark2 Tue 10-Dec-19 19:32:34

Some things to consider before you vote

This is a fork in the road.

Before you vote decide are you pro Tory or anti Tory?.

If you are pro Tory you will vote Tory.

But if you are anti-Tory, then look at the various tactical voting websites and vote tactically for the candidate in your constituency who looks likely to defeat the Tory candidate.

This could be a Labour candidate, a Liberal Democrat candidate, a Green Party Candidate, a Plaid Cymru candidate, an SNP candidate or an Indepndent pro-Remain candidate like Dominic Grieve.

Don't bother to scrutinise the manifestos of any of these candidates because if you do you will find things you don't agree with, just vote for them because they want to stop brexit and that is bu far the most important issue in this election.

Yehbutnobut Thu 12-Dec-19 08:27:31

WW2 in one way I agree that it is not what I am hearing on social media, but then on FB I pick and choose my friends. Even on here, GN, there are signs that people believe the lies spread about by the powerful Tory propaganda machine.

One example was the ‘senior nurse’ who said the child on the waiting room floor was a stunt. This has been proved to be Fake News, and vicious Fake News at that. But see how many were willing to lap that up?

Even when there is video evidence of Trump saying ‘everything is on the table and that includes the NHS’ people still don’t get it.

Even when Boris keeps trotting out 40 new hospitals and 50,000 new nurses when he has been told by his own advisers that is not the truth.

So, while I get good vibes from my FB friends, it’s not what I’m picking up on here or on the street. Too many people who cannot distinguish between the truth and the lies.

Therefore I predict we are in for another five years of cuts to education, police, care services. Where the cost of drugs supplied to the NHS goes through the roof as a result of his ‘trade deal’ with a Trump. And when the gullible British public suddenly realise he cannot ‘Get Brexit Done’ they will realise too late that they were duped and lied to.

lavenderzen Thu 12-Dec-19 08:34:42

No they don't.

lemongrove Thu 12-Dec-19 08:55:40

No, polls don’t ever influence my vote.

It always makes me laugh when anyone says that the other Party has won/ will only win because they are ‘gullible’ and believe that Party’s powerful propaganda machine! ?
I suppose it’s a comfort to them to carry on thinking that.
