A politics no-go zone?

I learned today that it is illegal to feature politics in any shape or form on TV or radio tomorrow . (Apart from the Election coverage after the polls have closed.)

Would it be possible for the same embargo to apply to Gransnet - or am I wishing for the moon?
How peaceful it would be.
Or would the vow of silence be more than some could take?

If you can have a politics no go zone I want a games-free one.

SirChenjin Wed 11-Dec-19 22:04:33

It could be Maizie - I tend to use my phone for GN. That’s annoying that the desktop version doesn’t have that option.

Jane10 Wed 11-Dec-19 22:00:42

I don't look at the politics threads generally but saw what Maw had said and agreed. Not an ostrich just sick of same old posters saying the same old things.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 11-Dec-19 21:49:26

Really looking forward to Friday 13th it’s one of our children’s birthday ?

MaizieD Wed 11-Dec-19 21:46:08

Nah, mine doesn't do that, SirChenjin. If I click on the thread title it just opens the thread. This is in the desktop version. Is it different in the phone version perhaps?

MissAdventure Wed 11-Dec-19 20:28:42

There is a "hide this discussion" option.

Bridgeit Wed 11-Dec-19 20:28:20

It could cause a backlash on Friday ?

SirChenjin Wed 11-Dec-19 20:24:00

That to GracesGranMK3

SirChenjin Wed 11-Dec-19 20:23:29

We do have that option - click on the title of the thread, then click on the little arrow that points downwards on the right hand side and then select hide this discussion.

If only we had the option to hide all threads on a particular topic as per MN then we wouldn’t see the b*ggars at all on our screens.

45 'elderly' folk for Sunday dinner on Friday- and pack and get ready to leave, and get Ye Olde Parish room ready as it is rented for Xmas when we are not here, and the spare rooms for neighbour to borrow for her family - ah that will keep me busy on Friday.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 11-Dec-19 20:05:28

We don't have one, do we mcem? It would be lovely so I hope I'm wrong.

mcem Wed 11-Dec-19 19:57:59

Why not use the Hide this Discussion option if you choose to behave like an ostrich?
Wish I could switch off bloody BJ as easily!

GracesGranMK3 Wed 11-Dec-19 19:16:12

It could be very, very quiet UG, while we all process what has happened, although I have to admit it is unlikely.

Urmstongran Wed 11-Dec-19 19:10:58

If we have a day off tomorrow I bet Friday will be buzzing!
?

GracesGranMK3 Wed 11-Dec-19 19:00:19

Really? I doubt there will be much chat and you can avoid it. What's the matter with you that you need such rules. I am staggered that you didn't know the media couldn't talk about it.

No one needs to read threads they are not interested in.

Charleygirl5 Wed 11-Dec-19 18:35:14

I agree Maw the problem is if one does not want politics or games there is very little else.

SirChenjin Wed 11-Dec-19 18:29:39

I agree Maw

MN has a feature which allows you to hide entire threads you don’t want to see but it’s not available on GN for some reason confused

LadyGracie Wed 11-Dec-19 18:26:50

It is an important day, it's our 49th wedding anniversary and it's been totally overshadowed by this debacle!

EllaKeat Wed 11-Dec-19 18:20:55

But Maw this really is the biggest, most important vote for donkeys years. Of course GN will be overrun with political threads.

Just have a holiday for a couple 9f days?

BlueBelle Wed 11-Dec-19 18:13:19

I want to put my fingers in my ears and scream to be honest ?

Urmstongran Wed 11-Dec-19 17:04:16

I’m going to keep it zipped tomorrow Maw!
?

Labaik Wed 11-Dec-19 17:02:45

This is probably the most important election that's happened in my lifetime so why would I want to ignore it? There's nothing to stop anyone ignoring social media/tv/radio etc for a couple of days. And good that those of us that are interested have people to discuss it with.

MaizieD Wed 11-Dec-19 16:58:00

I can't see there being much to talk about tomorrow. It'll be like a day in limbo.

But I'd agree, no-one is forcing anyone to read the N & P forum, so those who aren't interested, don't bother...

Dinahmo Wed 11-Dec-19 16:57:45

It's surprising the number of people on GN who complain about the political threads and yet have time to read them. The simple answer is - don't.

Sussexborn Wed 11-Dec-19 16:27:08

What Jane said!

It’s been quite an eye opener but has become really tedious.
