Pleased that the Conservative party won by such a large majority. Jeremy Corbyn was a gift to them, he is so left-wing in values, and the £billions he was offering was unbelievable. And Labour's stance on Brexit was ridiculous.

Hopefully, there is now a clear mandate regarding Brexit, ane we can steam ahead becoming even more successful than in the past.

yes and no, no because he was best of a bad bunch, and yes because i thought it would have been tighter, but if it gets a few of them gone then its a good clean up. i feel everyone whoever gets in forgets all they pledge when they are finally in power, doubt boris will be any diffrent

Our voting papers didn't arrive , we had to phone and ask for advice. It turned out that we could still vote by giving our name and address . But..How many elderly folk wouldn't have chased it up..and simply not voted .

I am relieved. I don't like Boris Johnson but the thought of Jeremy Corbyn being Prime Minister was frightening. Whether or not we agreed with the results of the EU referendum, we have been in a state of stalemate for the last three and a half years. Now we can get on with what needs to happen.

I think the young 'uns must have been terrified that Labour would Nationalise their flat screen TV's, hair extensions and Greggs Pasties.

Meanwhile, the council care homes will continue to close, private care home fees will continue to skyrocket, Donald Trump will be ecstatic at the prospect of cherry-picking the NHS, Universal Credit will plough on demonising the jobless, long-term sick and the disabled and Boris's promised extra NHS staff and extra police will simply be a pipe dream.

And, horrifyingly, knife crime will escalate way beyond any hope of control.

The Labour Party did not represent the man or woman in the street. They need to step forward with sensible credible policies and drop the candidates who seem to hate our country and are happy to support despots and terrorists.

My take on the overall result? = Friday 13th December 2019 - The night the Union died. How can Scotland and England remain tied together when it is obvious that their aspirations, needs, Brexit and left/right balance are diametrically opposed. Our UK PM has stated categorically that Scots have no right to decide their own future, not even peacefully at the ballot box. Polls have shown that Tories believe that Scotland leaving the UK is a price they are prepared to pay for 'getting Brexit Done'.

So here we are, the morning after the night before, subjected once again to 5 year years of Tory rule when The Conservatives have not won a majority of seats in Scotland since the 1950s. Also being dragged out of the EU, with dire consequences for the Scottish economy, when Scotland voted strongly to remain. Although this scenario is a gift to the Independence Movement, I feel so sad that it has come to this point, where the 4 Nations are so divided that the only way forward is to go our separate ways.

I think that whatever your political allegiances are, it is very very clear that there is no "united" kingdom now, not in a political sense.

aprilrose, I too had given up on this chat site and vowed not to participate any more (yes, I know I'm no loss). However, after seeing the result of the election, I had to pop in to see the reaction.
Not gloating, honestly!
I think the result may have been influenced by the behaviour of Parliament over the past two years...so many MPs jumping ship, ignoring the result of the referendum, saying leavers had changed their minds. We have been treated with contempt by so many.
It isn't just about Brexit. I, for one, am sick of all this Neo-liberalism. It was a social experiment which has failed. It's time to get back to common sense and decency.

Devastated, Lies and meaningless slogans won over facts, science, logic and compassion. They have stolen our future and that of our children and grandchildren. Trade deal with US will poison us and kill the planet. In what reality is 45% a majority?
