All the hyperbole, the grandstanding the rhetoric all over. We have a result and the British public have spoken. We have a conservative government.
Are we surprised?

Despite months (or years in some cases) of some of us trying to counteract the lies and misinformation coming from the right, the same lies and misinformation is still being disseminated.

MadeinYorkshire, I echo what others have said. Please hang on, speak to The Samaritans tonight please. Have you family or friends who would accompany you to the doctor tomorrow? Doctors work all through the weekend now, you don’t have to wait till Monday. There will be an emergency surgery somewhere near you. Please ring The Samaritans, someone will come out to see you, completely confidentially, if you wish.

merlotgran Sat 14-Dec-19 21:46:18

Very good post, Urmston

growstuff Sat 14-Dec-19 21:40:31

Just seen your post Starblaze and echo it.

growstuff Sat 14-Dec-19 21:39:34

MadeinYorkshire I don't know your circumstances, but please ask for help. Hang on to whatever you have, however grim things seem. There are still more people with kind hearts than those with ossified consciences and wilful blindness.

Starblaze Sat 14-Dec-19 21:38:50

MadeInYorkshire, hang in there lovely. There are lots of good people out there wuth real genuine empathy and a dedication to change the world. Too many people thses days only want to hear their own voice and their own shitty opinions reflected back to them... The younger generation are more and more kind and decent in my experience. Please get support. I understand how crushing this feels. 5 years, the tories have in their opinion been given free rein with their awful behaviour. Things will change, I am sure of it x

growstuff Sat 14-Dec-19 21:35:02

I doubt very much whether Grieve, Gauke and Soubry have been "liquidated" or whether it's the last anybody will hear of them.

Urmstongran Sat 14-Dec-19 21:23:16

This post seems crass now, following on from the previous one.
?

I hope you are okay MadeInYorkshire as that was quite some statement. Do you need help? Perhaps ring the Samaritans tonight?

Back to what I came on here to post ....

Britain is suddenly the only big country in Western Europe with a fully functional government able to take radical measures and sweep aside resistance.

France, Germany, Italy and Spain are all in political turmoil or have a paralysed executive. The centre is crumbling everywhere but not in Britain.

A one-nation Tory party has pulled off the feat of uniting a blue collar North and an affluent South. The world press and Left-academia got that narrative badly wrong!

This political asymmetry between a unified, confident, well-armed British government and a demoralised, splintered Continent matters enormously.

Brussels can no longer play the divide and rule game in Westminster, or indeed with the Tory party itself. Everything has changed.

The Grieves, Gaukes, and Soubrys of the “Rump Parliament” have been liquidated.

They have heard the roar of Yorkshire, Wales, Lancashire and Northumberland!

MadeInYorkshire Sat 14-Dec-19 20:57:32

Starblaze I think that is highly likely, sadly .... and to be honest, I may be one of those statistics as things are going :'(

Starblaze Sat 14-Dec-19 20:33:24

I hope we don't see another rise in suicide rates.

Anniebach Sat 14-Dec-19 20:24:50

Looking for someone else to blame lemon

Strange really, the wilderness years last 14 years .

Labour was last in power 2010, we have had 9 years of the Tory government, the next election in 5 years = 14 years.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 14-Dec-19 20:13:59

I know nurses, doctors and teachers who voted Conservative on Thursday.

lemongrove Sat 14-Dec-19 20:10:27

Blair understood that the working class traditional core voters had aspirations, Corbyn didn’t and was stuck in the past.

lemongrove Sat 14-Dec-19 20:09:18

Anniebach I said somewhere on one of the politics threads
Yesterday that you should have been advising Corbyn....you have been saying ( the lone labour voice) that he hadn’t a hope in hell of winning an election with a far left agenda, and it would end in more ‘wilderness years’ for the Party.
They wouldn’t listen on here would they? Are they listening now I wonder, or like Corbyn himself casting around to blame something else?

merlotgran Sat 14-Dec-19 19:50:01

Yes, Oopsminty. A man we've known and liked for years posted on facebook that from now on he will refer to anyone he knows who voted tory as a turkey and he hopes they all get stuffed!

Blimey! Better keep out of his way then grin

Tw*t!

Oopsminty Sat 14-Dec-19 19:26:32

My daughter is a doctor and said all the doctors were disappointed Johnson won.

My 30 year old son is a doctor.

My 28 year old daughter in law is a doctor.

They are both more than happy

You'd be surprised just how many doctors are probably pleased that Boris won.

They might well keep quiet about it though.

The vitriol aimed at people who dare to be Conservatives is rather frightening.

Urmstongran Sat 14-Dec-19 19:20:56

Lioness68
??

Lioness68 Sat 14-Dec-19 19:18:56

I am delighted. I am 68 years old and have voted Conservative all my life. I am loving some of Urmston Gran's comments. As some one else her has said - Boris is the best the to happen since Margaret Thatcher. I am confident that we are in a safe and solid place for the next five years.

Urmstongran Sat 14-Dec-19 19:10:24

You rarely meet a doctor who votes Conservative

Oh Marjgran ??????

I worked in a district general hospital for over 30y with consultants and senior registrars (not called that these days) and we socialised with them out of work.

Sorry but you really made me laugh at THAT statement!

Urmstongran Sat 14-Dec-19 18:59:38

You can’t blame it on a bus this time. You can’t say it was a narrow win. And you certainly can’t say the public didn’t know what they were voting for.

After tossing and turning through more than three years of political unrest, Britons have never been better informed or prepared for an election like this.

And what did the overwhelming majority vote for? To get Brexit done.
?

MadeInYorkshire Sat 14-Dec-19 18:59:35

robbymax i am 77 years young, and for the first time in years i feel optimistic for my grandchildren, if they work hard, stay away from the media and follow the work ethic of there parents, never hold a hand out for anything,
and allways stand on there own feet.
they will succeed.

..... unless of course they aren't hit with ANY ILLNESS or DISABILTY - in that case they will be stuffed!! Hope they also manage to get a good education too ....

varian Sat 14-Dec-19 18:56:08

As usual the minority have spoken and the majority who never voted for brexit or Johnson can be ignored because of our appallingly undemocratic voting system.

Rosina Sat 14-Dec-19 18:55:46

GagaJo thanks for that - I shall endeavour to do the same. I have always tried to remember 'Don't believe everything you read/hear' - and clearly I let outrage get the better of me this time.

Chinesecrested Sat 14-Dec-19 18:49:55

Pleased and relieved. He's got a lot of work to do do over the next five years, so let's hope he can step up.

NanaPlenty Sat 14-Dec-19 17:27:31

I’m delighted and hope
That for once some promises are kept and we can all
Look forward to some better times ahead . Wishing
Peace and happiness to all .
