All the hyperbole, the grandstanding the rhetoric all over. We have a result and the British public have spoken. We have a conservative government.
Are we surprised?

LilyJ Fri 13-Dec-19 12:28:27

Soo relieved...(although a little disappointed I will miss out on my £31.000 as a waspi woman - haha, as if).
I believe we are going to see a New Conservative party, so much more diverse , new areas, new accents, fresh new ideas, less old stuffed shirts with plums in their mouths. Looking forward to seeing what they’re made of and definitely happy to give Boris a chance.

As an Irish citizen who still remembers working in London in the seventies and eighties during the IRA bombing campaign, all I can say is good luck on the Irish border question.

EthelJ Fri 13-Dec-19 12:31:55

Not surprised but very depressed

The people have indeed spoken and democracy has been upheld. Time for that to be accepted.

I hear Bercow was not best pleased - I expect he did a Rumplestiltskin, stamped his foot and disappeared in a puff of smoke.

You all sound like my country. All will be fine. A trade agreement with US will benefit all of us!

JenniferEccles Fri 13-Dec-19 12:44:06

To all those howling with outrage at ‘the poor and vulnerable’ - we have a welfare state you know.

Some figures being quoted are completely ridiculous.

We do NOT have four million children living in poverty.

You must remember that Labour were getting desperate and clutched these meaningless figures out of thin air.

GrannyMary1 Fri 13-Dec-19 12:46:45

To fiachna50, I for one am so heartened by the SNP's victory in Scotland. I don't want anything to do with Brexit or the Tories or Boris Johnson. Would love to just leave the rest of the UK to get on with the mess they have stupidly voted for. Unfortunately I have family in England and feel so sorry for them.

RubyGran Fri 13-Dec-19 12:51:54

I'm totally with you, Yehbutnobut. Sad day for Britain.

Jess Phillips Esq - Hells Teeth No!
I find her arrogant, patronising & infuriating already.

Yvette Cooper - unforgivable actions as Minister responsible for swingeing cuts & diabolical assessment processes for disability benefits.

Dublin29 Fri 13-Dec-19 12:59:37

???

Yehbutnobut Fri 13-Dec-19 13:01:44

Jess Philips. Good woman and great MP.

Yehbutnobut Fri 13-Dec-19 13:07:40

JenniferEccles you are mistaken on both counts.

4+ million children are living in poverty and the figures were not dreamed up by Labour.

Google it.

edsnana Fri 13-Dec-19 13:15:40

How anyone could vote in a government lead by a misogynist, racist homophobic liar beggars belief. Nothing in their manifesto for the vulnerable and poor in our society. Merry Christmas to the homeless and 4 million children living in poverty! Hope those kind enough to donate to food banks can spare a bit extra for those in desperate at Christmas

Phloembundle Fri 13-Dec-19 13:19:20

The reason for the win was simple. Democracy in its purest form. We voted to leave. The will of the people prevailed.

timetogo2016 Fri 13-Dec-19 13:20:17

I agree with all what LoveOc has posted.
I am very optimistic for our countries future.

Lancslass1 Fri 13-Dec-19 13:20:58

No,I expected it but not with as great a majority.
As Opal and others have said it was a great day for democracy.
I am delighted .

WendyBT Fri 13-Dec-19 13:22:14

Welcome to Trumpian Britain.

Lancslass1 Fri 13-Dec-19 13:27:43

All Rebecca Long Bailey seems to do is waive her arm about and ,hold up her hand and shout “listen”.
Lisa Nandy the MP for Wigan seems to me to be a good choice.

maddyone Fri 13-Dec-19 13:30:30

edsnana, how anyone could vote for a Marxist, supporter of terrorists beggars belief in my opinion.

Rocknroll5me Fri 13-Dec-19 13:32:28

at exit poll I was shocked and disappointed. nothing quite shocked me after that - on the positive side Corbyn was not a good leader and it will force him to go - which a hung parliament, the nearest wecould have got and what I wanted, wouldn't. I was too uneasy with the uneasiness of British Jews. Being part of the same left tradition as Corbyn I know how deep the anti-Israel feelings go - along with anti-West anti-EU and pro Russian. Not even believing Skripol was anything to do with Putin...So much of this thinking is not fit for purpose. Its nothing to do with personally insulting Jews, of course not, but by supporting proven anti-semites those who do not believe that Israel should exist. By calling them friends, by attending the funeral and laying a wreath on one of the perpetrators of the Munich assassination of Israeli Olympic athlested in 1972. And not apologising. So I will be glad when Corbyn is no longer leader and hope that Jess Phillips or Emily Thornbury will be.

jennymolly Fri 13-Dec-19 13:45:11

So many of you think Boris is fine to rule the country. OK explain why. What are his strengths? All I see and hear are an incoherent, bumbling, self confessed liar who is ONLY interested in himself and not the common good. He has an undisclosed number of children by various wives and mistresses all of whom he cheated on. I could go on.

juneski Fri 13-Dec-19 13:46:23

No. Disappointed, but not surprised! Despite the large majority, sadly I think we are going to remain a Broken Britain for some time yet. Some of the vitriolic comments I have seen on Facebook this morning against Labour supporters have been horrific. I sincerely want all my fears about a Conservative government under Johnson to be proved wrong, I really do! But I am not going to change my views and just "shut up". Democracy means I have to and will accept the result, but it does not mean my freedom to air my views has been taken away.

Sussexborn Fri 13-Dec-19 13:48:05

At least we can move forward now! The country seems to have been stuck in a quagmire for the last three years.

Why is BJ’s marital status constantly brought in to play against him? Corbyn has been married three times and is thought to have had “dalliances” but everyone is ok with that?

robbymax Fri 13-Dec-19 13:50:10

i am 77 years young, and for the first time in years i feel optimistic for my grandchildren, if they work hard, stay away from the media and follow the work ethic of there parents, never hold a hand out for anything,
and allways stand on there own feet.
they will succeed.
