What now for Labour Party ?

I saw a poll in some tabloid the other day on who were the most popular poiliticians. Predictably Boris Johnson came first, but guess who came second? It was Ed Balls, who entertained the masses on Strictly Come Dancing and has also been on various other TV shows.

I have to agree with Doodledog in his post @12:37 today. Just electing a new leader would only prove to be a continuation of the existing problems that have become so obvious within the Labour party in the last two years.

The Parliamentary Labour Party has within it extremes of views which range from Blairite which are almost centre right in the view of many, too hard left both within its MPs and in seats taken up on its National Executive Committee. The same divergence can be witnessed within the individual Constituency Labour Parties, and i strongly feel that no matter "how broad a church" the Parliamentary Labour Party attempts to make itself it will never be able to entirely encompass such a broad range of political views.

Evidence to the above has been witnessed on any number of occasions in recent times by the continuous undermining of Jeremy Corbyn by those on the right of the parliamentary party. In that I have no doubts that should a more centre MP be elected as leader of the parliamentary party the same undermining would be carried out by those on the left of the Party.

In the above, I therefore believe that the parliamentary Labour Party in its present structure and membership is unfit for purpose. That is why I believe that all should be placed on hold until it is known whether the broader Labour movement in the country is willing to continue its close support of the Parliamentary Party in the way it does now.

It would have been very easy for Jeremy Corbyn to have resigned as leader on Friday morning, but he has obviously decided to continue as leader in what I feel will be a forlorn attempt to keep the Labour Party in being by way of its present form and structure.

And that is an impossible task I believe.

It does amuse me the way she can dismiss her past.

I have seen Ms Abbott speak and it was not good.
She is actually very biased.
I don't think she would be an MP in an other constituency.

varian Now Ed Balls I'd forgotten about him. Maybe his leaving politics for show business was just a ploy. Maybe he'll come back!!

We need someone with charisma. I can't think of anyone at the moment.

It really shouldn't HAVE to be a woman, to say it should shows a "tick box" mentality, best person for the job, but I guess Labour are aware that they just haven't had a female leader so far and that's not looking very egalitarian in this day and age. I always thought Rachel Reeves came across very well, is she still an MP? and Jess Philips I think would resonate with women she certainly tells it how it is, maybe she'd be considered a loose cannon she doesn't appear to have always been that deferential to the party line.

I too like Jess Phillips but at PMQ ? I doubt she could keep her emotions under control.

I do not think Stephen Kinnock would be right at all - besides his children already have an ex prime minister for a mother - Denmark - without having an aspiring one for a father!

I think Jess Phillips is a great MP and is a fantastic constituency MP - it would be a huge loss for them if she took on being leader - besides her lads need her at home sometimes!

Kier Starmer would be my choice and he is only mid 50s so far from being too old. Many of the younger ones do not have enough experience for the job.

Oh Gaga, you never disappoint me. You like Diane Abbott, but she does need some fans, they’re in short supply in her fan club.

On a serious note, I think she’s endured some horrible, nasty, racist abuse and no one should have to do that. Sadly, many of our female politicians continue to receive abuse, sometimes racist, sometimes just plain nasty. I do not understand why anyone would wish to be so vile.

I doubt she did shag Corbyn. They probably just sat up all night discussing the politics of the act and whether he was prepared to commit himself to it because in his need to for the many and not just the few he had to onsider all those of different genders and sexual preferences who might feel excluded by their gender exclusive act.

No one else has mentioned Lisa Nandy. I really like her, doesn’t anyone else?

Not Ed Balls , he was dreadful in Education. Sweet in Strictly but that is a different field altogether.

I'm puzzled as to why the one person has so much power. It shouldn't be up to Corbyn to decide when to go. Just as I don't think he's not the one who made all the decisions about continuing as leader throughout the campaign.

Momentum should establish their own party now and stand for election next time the same as everyone else, leaving a LP consisting of centre ground MPs far more representative of the average LP member/supporters.

What is it about Rebecca Long-Bailey then that she's "the one" the appointed successor of Corbyn and McDonnell I believe, anyone know? and what exactly will she bring to the table, other than more of the same.
