You won.

Now own it.

Get Brexit done by January 31st, get us a great deal, or no deal and great new trade alliances that positively impact our economy.

Get us our new nurses, our new police, our 40 new hospitals. Ensure the NHS is not sold off.

You won, you own it.

I expect you to see this through. Write to your MP, go protest every time your elected government doesn't fulfill a promise. Sign petitions. Prove to me you wanted what is best for our country. Prove to the government you expect what is best for this country.

Don't just vote for it, fight for it.

The Labour voters will.

People who moved down south in their 20s and worked their butts off so that they could have nice things later on.

Theres a lot of pride when people from these areas do well and move back with nice lifestyles.

Bettering yourself and "selfishly" looking to better the next generation of your family is not considered a character flaw in these areas.

And clearly, they do not like being told theyre wrong!

Callistemon Sun 15-Dec-19 16:53:58

notanan that is the nub of it I think - stopping Momentum and its stranglehold on the LP in its present form.

notanan2 Sun 15-Dec-19 16:57:33

What helps young people in working class areas do well is seeing other people from their area do well. Not getting bones thrown from Westminster.

Sucess beyond having the basics isnt dirty and wrong

growstuff Sun 15-Dec-19 17:00:23

notanan2 That's what I was trying to say on another thread, but (being me), I was much more wordy hmm.

Tooting29 Sun 15-Dec-19 17:18:23

I think Boris has said in his speeches that they must deliver and they will be judged on that. So we shall see.

In the end I think the conservatives were more politically astute than Labour and Lib Dems. They read the mood correctly that the public wanted an end to the Brexit wrangling and feared a Labour Labour Govt. The labour intellectuals too London centric. It is interesting that mant if the new Conservative MPs were local, not posh Eton types but teachers, health workers, teachers , local councillors
local business people who knew their area. It was part of the strategy when selecting them. It was successful.

Sometimes what people want is a far cry from what they need

Beckett Sun 15-Dec-19 17:33:04

Starblaze It seems you are suggesting that people can't tell the difference between what they want and what they need. That is the mistake Labour made.

I can assure you they can. What they need is for politicians to treat them with respect and not dictate to them.

Smileless2012 Sun 15-Dec-19 17:45:16

And not treat them like fools too Beckett, did they really think the majority wouldn't see that what they were promising to spend would have bankrupted the country?

trisher Sun 15-Dec-19 18:05:06

I think the idea that the Conservatives are somehow not London-centric is such a joke- Gove making a speech about the victory confused two Durham seats and announced that the Durham Miner's Gala would be held in a Conservative constituency. It won't it's still Labour. But hey it's Oop North so how are you expected to know.
The concept that Labour bancrupted the country has been so well sold, it was of course the bankers, and we bailed them out!!!
The Conservative MP who ousted Laura Piddock was not local. He lived 100 miles away, so not a local candidate at all. Nor is he a teacher, he was a political adviser.
What you realise then is that the Conservative victory was not only built on lies and misinformation but that several of the misapprehensions remain.

notanan2 Sun 15-Dec-19 18:17:52

The concept that Labour bancrupted the country has been so well sold, it was of course the bankers, and we bailed them out!!!

It's not been "sold"
Non Labour voters are perfectly capable of reading policies first hand and are TIRED of being told by Corbynites that if they dont lile JC or Momentum they must be getting all their political ideas second hand.

grannysyb Sun 15-Dec-19 18:17:56

Starblaze, do you mean to patronise?

growstuff Sun 15-Dec-19 18:20:56

Of course the Conservatives are London/south/wealth-centric.

However, I was looking up the background of the Conservative who won Redcar. He's 26, born in Middlesbrough (now living in Saltburn), went to a comp and worked in the chemicals industry as a process worker. What's not to like if you're an aspirational young person living in Redcar?

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 18:33:50

No I don't mean to patronise, it's often true and can be said of anyone. Do feel free to run with it though, I've learnt to tolerate having my words twisted to meet people's needs.

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 18:35:39

Basically people want Brexit but do they need it?

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 18:38:36

It's moot now anyway.

The majority has decided, I'm not one to run around shouting "Not my prime minister" because thats not logical. He is and I would like him to prove himself a good one preferably. So he will need holding to account.

varian Sun 15-Dec-19 18:58:32

No, Starblaze, the minority has decided, not the majority but in our corrupt democracy, the minority wins.

Callistemon Sun 15-Dec-19 19:00:49

Oh, I thought London was mainly Labour - and again this time growstuff.

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 19:01:41

Varian, sorry, you are right, I'm trying to live with it. The crushing depression I felt Friday morning.

Urmstongran Sun 15-Dec-19 19:06:12

It seems exhausting being you today Starblaze you seem very agitated and a tad aggressive in my opinion.

No varian the majority won the referendum and due to the nature of our political system when it comes to a GE, the majority have won again.

You wouldn't be going on about our 'corrupt democracy' if the Lib Dems had won would you?

Smileless2012 Sun 15-Dec-19 19:16:16

Sour grapes IMO, I prefer my grapes to come in a glass ofwine.

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 19:16:48

Really? How bizarre. Yes I go very formal when I am a bit stressed but I don't have any animosity to anyone and I'm definitely not anyone else.

So give it a rest eh?

Starblaze Sun 15-Dec-19 19:18:42

I am usually the sort of person who tries to see the best in people and their motives for doing anything. It's very hard to do that when others go on the attack when I just want a conversation not a row.

Smileless2012 Sun 15-Dec-19 19:20:04

It isn't very nice to be accused of being someone else is it.
