How long will Boris last?

As a bit of amusement I was trying to work ut how long Boris will stick at the job of PM. He's not big on commitment. I think he'll want to go down in history as the man who did Brexit, but I don't think he'll wnt to stick around afterwards. I think he'll be getting himself bounced up to the H of Lords once it's done. Anyone else want to guess at how long he'll last?

Boris is the second Winston Churchill

Really? What parallels do you see?

SirChenjin Wed 18-Dec-19 10:11:53

Better to be honest, trustworthy, and genuinely looking out for the most vulnerable in society whilst seeking to unite the UK after the divisions caused by the worst political behaviour in recent years or to be a tub thumping liar with no concern for anything that doesn’t involve making the rich richer and getting Brexit done/over the line/insert your choice of meaningless soundbite here?

No, Boris not good on detail but I think he will pick good people to do that while he gets on with leading. Remember old met leader who said about bj I always came away from meeting him feeling better. Bj will enthuse his team.

Boris is the second Winston Churchill, no one liked him at first either. If all fails, then perhaps we can call on * SirChenjin’s* gnats, they may surprise us!

It is better to be positive than negative!

Camelotclub Wed 18-Dec-19 10:04:43

I think he'll stay the course. After all, he'd always wanted to be World King.

AllTheLs Wed 18-Dec-19 10:04:25

Well, as he's the only PM candidate who seems to know the real meaning of 'democratic', I think he'll be there quite a while.

grabba Wed 18-Dec-19 10:02:00

Why would he give up this power trip?

To have a PM who can't take on board the depth of poverty that exists in his own country is like having M Thatcher or D Cameron back.

He will go when his ego tells him to.

Labour will never get in unless there is a huge change from the grass roots to the very top and that doesn't look likely.

Boris was well advised, he spent time with the people of this country in the Labour heartlands and it paid off.

The best result by far and long may it continue.

Callistemon Wed 18-Dec-19 10:00:48

As I confidently predicted on another thread in a galaxy far away that he would never become PM I think I'd better not hazard a guess.

inkcog Wed 18-Dec-19 09:52:52

He doesn't strike me as a person to be diligently working away with great attention to detail.

SirChenjin Wed 18-Dec-19 09:45:32

‘Everyone’ hasn’t forgotten and that’s not what this is about.

Oopsminty Wed 18-Dec-19 09:35:16

Everyone seems to have forgotten that we had implemented employment rights before we even joined the EU.

Or EEC as it was then

SirChenjin Wed 18-Dec-19 09:28:43

I think I’ve misunderstood you, my apologies - I thought you were saying I shouldn’t believe the news stories re worker’s rights and the fact that they now won’t protected after Brexit.

Yehbutnobut Wed 18-Dec-19 08:58:15

SirChenjin are you referring to all the disinformation (aka Fake News) decimated during the election or that since?

Take you pick.,

Grany Wed 18-Dec-19 08:52:38

Replying to
@SueSuezep
Corbyn told us but the UK media told us he was lying. They were desperate for the racist liar to be PM. We do not have decency or democracy in this country.

SirChenjin Wed 18-Dec-19 08:43:09

What is it you think we shouldn’t believe?

Yehbutnobut Wed 18-Dec-19 08:12:18

Don’t believe everything you read in the papers or through other media sources (which are of course available). That is how the country ended up with the leader it deserved...for 5 long years. ?

The battle has a long way to go and I for one will not be supporting any candidate endorsed by. McCluskey.

SirChenjin Wed 18-Dec-19 07:41:27

Unless Boris delivers great things for the Labour heartlands who have loaned him their votes and the rUK then he’s in trouble and he certainly won’t win the next election. He’s not someone who genuinely cares about the most vulnerable in society (as witnessed by the recent volte-face re workers rights) so will simply steam roller through some form of Brexit so he can shout about getting it done and then when the merde starts to hit the fan he’ll make some grand exit and disappear to the US.

M0nica Wed 18-Dec-19 07:10:53

and the chances of that happening Davidhs?

News reports from yesterday's meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party suggest what you - and every reasonable person must hope for - is unlikely to happen.

Davidhs Wed 18-Dec-19 06:53:26

Much to early to write off Labour at the next election, so much depends on the chosen leader, a charismatic leader and sensible policies could easily turn prospects round. Ironically after Brexit is done, good or bad, a change of direction could happen, that’s what happened to Churchill after WW2.

Much of the Labour disaster was anti Corbyn sentiment.

Scentia Wed 18-Dec-19 05:30:40

I give him 18 months. He will inevitably f*$k up by then, big time.

M0nica Tue 17-Dec-19 23:04:05

Yes, but he will win because, once again, Labour will shoot itself in both feet. The disaster is already in the making.

JenniferEccles Tue 17-Dec-19 22:57:33

Time will tell of course but my money is on him staying the course .

He has wanted the top job for years and years apparently so there is no way he is likely to give up after a short term.

I have high hopes for what he will achieve in the years ahead.

M0nica Tue 17-Dec-19 22:57:14

I see Labour's defeat in the next election already in preparation.
