As a bit of amusement I was trying to work ut how long Boris will stick at the job of PM. He's not big on commitment. I think he'll want to go down in history as the man who did Brexit, but I don't think he'll wnt to stick around afterwards. I think he'll be getting himself bounced up to the H of Lords once it's done. Anyone else want to guess at how long he'll last?

Bent justice, in the meantime- re PM and Government being made to stand up to their lies during Campaigns - stinks

As long as Cummings the King Maker hangs around.

Varian, I forgot to add that I also have had a British passport for over 50 years. I think that entitles me to vote, don't you?

Irishlady Thu 19-Dec-19 17:42:12

Varian, yes I am Irish. I was brought to England by my parents when I was 9 years old, I am now 72 so have lived here most of my life. I'm married to an English man and when I was younger I served 4 years in Her Majestys army, the Womens Royal Army Corps to be exact. From the time I was old enough to vote I have always done so.

I think he will ‘do a Blair’ by setting things in motion then jumping ship before th sh** hits the fan!

The new Tories in the North will get his measure only too quickly I am afraid when he reveals his true self.

Ooh if I was being nasty I would have to make up a term for Boris-worshippers. All the guff about him being treated badly etc. I agree about his laziness and his irritability when questioned.. I remember his response when he was questioned about cutting the London Firebrigade- "Oh Get Stuffed"

"How long will Boris last" ............longer than Gordon Brown!

He always relies on “winging it” promise the earth and worry about providing it after.
They are already backing off on 50,000 extra nurses, apparently 18,000 of those are existing nurses they are going to persuade not to retire. The worn out nurses I know would want a very large carrot indeed to persuade them to stay.

I don't think he will last all that long. He'll probably manage to stay until he's done enough to be able to claim that he got Brexit done but I think he will become bored fairly soon.

He has enjoyed going all over the place and taking advantage of every photo opportunity (I'm sure he loves seeing his picture on the front pages) but being PM is a lot of hard work and he's a bit averse to that.

When he was London Mayor people I knew who worked at City Hall said he was lazy and never read the background papers before meetings, always relying on winging it.

Still we shall see. I suppose it depends on how much control Dominic Cummings has over him and he probably knows where the bodies are buried.

Exactly Hetty58. They haven't done those things in TEN years, they're hardly going to start now.

Hetty58 Thu 19-Dec-19 09:04:28

I wait in anticipation (but with very little hope) for the changes to be made, the promises kept, the differences seen etc.

inkcog Thu 19-Dec-19 08:56:21

positivity and patriotic

I don't feel any sense of either. Perhaps because I am not a smug little Englander.

Bluegrass Thu 19-Dec-19 08:30:40

Allthels, possibly democratic and bombastic but certainly not truthful or compassionate.

Daisymae Thu 19-Dec-19 07:42:06

Johnson is not hiding his brilliance under a bushel. He is what he is, which is why he wouldn't face scrutiny.

Labaik Thu 19-Dec-19 01:12:55

And he was inspirational in the climate change debate. Oh, hang on a minute....

Labaik Thu 19-Dec-19 01:11:21

Yes; it was really brave of him to stand up to Andrew Neil. Oh, hang on a minute....

Saetana - I agree, Boris has successfully navigated his way into a very strong position despite every attempt to bring him down. The treatment he received over the last couple of months was enough to bring most people to their knees. I was no Boris fan until I saw how he stood up to them and I admired his resilience.

Saetana Wed 18-Dec-19 22:56:05

Boris is going to surprise you all - he isn't the "thick" buffoon who he often plays in public. Over the few days since he won, he has been busy confirming the promises he made. Getting a bit sick of you labour/lib dem/green voters being sore losers. Boris is GO - watch him and despair grin

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Brexit “ !

I love it !!!

GagaJo Wed 18-Dec-19 21:37:38

Oopsminty, yes, they did. jura2 posted the statistics on here somewhere (I've looked but can't find them). Something like 60% of under 30's voted Labour.

varian Wed 18-Dec-19 21:36:55

Are you Irish, Irishlady?.

It was strange that Commonwealth citizens living in the UK were allowed to vote in the fraudulent referendum, but EU citizens living in the UK were disenfranchised, unless they were Irish.

Oopsminty Wed 18-Dec-19 21:33:57

The youth of the UK voted for them en masse

Not really.

Also they will soon grow up and their voting habits will probably change

Irishlady Wed 18-Dec-19 21:31:19

I've been looking forward to this since the day I put my X in the box saying leave on 23 June 2016.

varian Wed 18-Dec-19 21:28:37

It might not make sense, but apparently it is the law. In th UK referenda can only be advisory.
