Borrowed from a Friend on FB. Just to make people clear of what, as a nation, we have voted for:

In his first four days as Prime Monster of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has:

Cut the disability benefits of 650,000 vulnerable humans.

Rolled back on plans to address the climate change emergency.

Banned any boycott of Israel and supported their renewed offensive against the unarmed civilians of Gaza.

Removed child refugee legal protections.

Rolled back his pledge to increase nurses for the NHS.

Told us that the NHS is no longer protected from a trade deal with the US.

Told us that future deals will be conducted in secret.

Blocked anyone without photo ID from voting in future elections.

Drafted new constituency boundaries to keep the Tories in power indefinitely.

Dismissed renewed calls for a second Scottish independence referendum causing further disharmony.

Stated that workers rights and Trade Unions are under threat.

Rolled back pledge to increase the national living wage.

Announced an increase in MP’s wages to £82k a year

Scrapped EU directives on holiday pay, sick leave and working hours.

Stated that Brexit is happening by the the 31st of January with the worst no-deal scenario yet.

2nd part growstuff, not the first bit. I agree. Sending you love. Not any practical use I know.

I agree, Starblaze.

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 19:58:27

I agree Starblaze. It really makes me wonder how such people have become so bitter and self-centred.

Probably better to ignore people who think they are winning some sort of Internet points. A life without compassion or any relevant thought is not a happy one... That is why they take it out on others

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 19:51:12

It wasn't intended to be witty. It was written from my heart, as my own experience of Christmas.

GagaJo Thu 26-Dec-19 19:49:14

So witty growstuff! I was about to include a sarcastic comment, but yours trumps mine, so I won't bother.

GagaJo Thu 26-Dec-19 19:48:09

Those of us who got the result we wanted are happy and have had an enjoyable Christmas,so maybe we should feel sorry for them.......or not??

Not a thought for anyone less fortunate. Says it all really.

BTW, time to move on from Corbyn Lemongrove. He's long gone. Try to focus on the government we have now.

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 19:46:04

Nobody can ever take a break from poverty, disability or serious illness.

I had hoped the Botanical Bullies were indulging in cheap Prosecco and emotional tat, so wouldn't have time for GN. Apparently not!

lemongrove Thu 26-Dec-19 19:38:55

Either way, you would think they may have wanted a break, but apparently not.

lemongrove Thu 26-Dec-19 19:37:36

tooting Jane10 and Jabberwok and Opal ???
Well said, all of you.
I suppose the disappointed LP and Corbyn supporters on GN just have to have things to moan and groan about at all times, and will no doubt do so for the next five years!

The OP listed listed a number of concerns about issues which voters might not have been aware of.

Maybe they were aware. In which case how do they justify them?

Maybe they weren't aware. In which case, do they feel they were conned? Or do they still prefer to keep their heads in the sand and ignore them?

Maybe they want to dispute the claims. Who knows?

This isn't some kind of political game. This is reality for millions of people.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 26-Dec-19 19:12:34

Thank you Jabberwok. That's one step forward. How does that relate to the OP, please.

Doodledog Thu 26-Dec-19 19:11:15

It is a regime that, by the same logic as Dottynan used, might appeal to someone who had issues with a Labour government (ie 'if you don't like it, go somewhere with a different way of ruling'). If Brazil is the wrong choice, choose another country with a regime that is a long way from centrist socialism - it really doesn't matter to the point I was making.

Jabberwok Thu 26-Dec-19 18:59:46

You're welcome Dottynan ( I love the name!☺️).
No one on here has as far as I'm aware, has ever praised the government of Brazil so why would anyone want to go there?!

Doodledog Thu 26-Dec-19 18:47:17

I would hate to live in China. I like living here, and inasmuch as anyone can lay claim to a country, this one is 'mine'. I have lived here all my life, and see no reason why the fact that I am uneasy about the way politics is going should mean that I should leave.

Did you push off to Brazil or somewhere when we had a Labour government, Dottynan?

Starblaze Thu 26-Dec-19 18:44:32

Telling someone to emigrate if they don't like it is basically a covert way of telling them to truck off.. That was a covert way of saying the other thing btw

Dottynan Thu 26-Dec-19 18:41:30

Thank you Jabberwok.

Jabberwok Thu 26-Dec-19 18:36:34

Well, it wasn't that long ago that GagaJo was singing the praises of Communist China, comparing the political system very favourably compared to that of the UK!
Perhaps that's what prompted Dottynans comment!

GracesGranMK3 Thu 26-Dec-19 18:20:34

What us the reasoning behind that comment Dottynan. It really seems to make no sense; perhaps you could explain.

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 18:12:51

What the heck does that have to do with anything? I don't speak Mandarin nor Russian. Why on earth would I want to emigrate to China or Russia? I was born in the UK, as were all my ancestors, I'm British and I love the liberalism and pragmatism which used to be so much part of the UK. It's never been perfect and we've always had the right to express grievances. It seems to me that some people on GN don't want to recognise that the country is heading in a direction which contradicts everything I've ever held dear.

Dottynan Thu 26-Dec-19 18:04:48

If it is so jolly in China or Russia why don't people who favour that way of life emigrate there

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 17:52:44

Very well said Doodledog.

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 17:50:42

Christmas is a grim time for millions of people in the UK for all sorts of reasons. For them, Christmas Day is much the same as every other day of the year, except they see people around them being frivolous and telling them to shut up because they're "supposed" to be having a great time.

What you disparagingly label as left-wing politics isn't a game. It's reality for far too many people in this country and doesn't just disappear because it's Christmas Day.

It's ironic really. I'm an atheist, but even I recognise the morality of Christmas Day and the messages of Jesus.

Doodledog Thu 26-Dec-19 17:48:54

I do wish that points could be responded to as they stand, without assumptions about whether they (or the poster who mentions them) is 'left wing' or 'right wing'.

It is all too easy to write people off, as one thing or another, and I really feel that this is a massive problem in what used to be (at least on the surface) a 'united' kingdom.

I have been called both left and right wing on here, simply because I disagreed with someone who considers themselves to be of one wing, and assumed that anyone disagreeing must be from the other. It really doesn't help a sensible discussion to move forward at all.

The OP in this case posted a list of things that have happened since the recent election. Presumably, those who voted Conservative feels that these things are necessary and/or desirable, or they wouldn't have voted as they did, and it is their right to vote for what they believe in. That is the nature of democracy.

What would help, however, is if they either disputed the validity of the claims (although they have all been backed up with links to their sources, so the same would be required to take issue with them), or explained why they think that they needed to happen, or how they are a 'good thing'. Simply writing them off as 'left wing clams' or 'doom mongering' is facile, and doesn't add to any understanding of why so many people voted Conservative.

This country is more divided than I can remember, and a lot of the reason for that seems to me to be that people entrench themselves in their assumptions that if they are 'right' in their opinions, then everyone who holds a different one is 'wrong'. This way of thinking cannot work where opinions are concerned, as by definition they are not 'right' or 'wrong', but opinions.

FWIW, I voted Labour, and to Remain, and regret neither, but I don't assume that Tories are 'wrong' to feel as they do - their opinions are simply different from mine, and we have different moral codes and outlooks on life, which is ok in a democracy. I would be interested to hear more than simple rebuttals, or cries of 'propaganda' from those who voted differently, though. The point of a discussion group is that people share their views and maybe change their minds a bit having heard the views of other people.

growstuff Thu 26-Dec-19 17:40:42

Good!
