What a truth! Racist remarks are racist what ever your colour!

Buttonjugs Tue 21-Jan-20 12:53:24

@Anniemac Privilege is being born into money, not making your own like Oprah! LF is very privileged very well off and has no idea about real life. His music is worse than many other actually talented singers but he gets a platform because his family are well known in the industry. I quite liked him as an actor but in real life he comes across as a young gammon.

suziewoozie but it was people with physical disabilities who didn't want those with learning and intellectual disability to be part of the paralympics. I even heard someone many years ago being interviewed on the radio saying, but they're not the same as us!! If those who suffer discrimination because of a disability cannot begin to accept and make allowances for others with a different type of disability, then isn't it somewhat optimistic to expect the able-bodied to be any different?

Interesting discussion last night on Newnight about the future rôle of the BBC - and its rôle during the Brexit campaign, and QT and what happend last week with LF, were mentionned.

It is clear that this debâcle has damaged QT - and the BBC. However, the main damage was done by this recent obsession with 'balance' - eg that anyone opposing experts in their field, should be given equal time and weight- irrespective of their qualifications, experience or knowledge.

10 minutes from an expert with years of experience = 10 minutes of any idiot contering expert advice with spouting any old rubbish.

You’re disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

In what way does not being able to sing in tune impact on normal daily activities. And btw these days there is no such thing as bring registered disabled. The register disappeared ages ago.. AFAIK the only people who register are people who are blind or partially sighted.

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 13:06:56

jan years ago when I was more involved in disability rights issues, I did find that with some people, there was almost a ‘hierarchy’ of disability. My initial thoughts are that there are much greater challenges in facilitating the views and opinions of learning disabled people being fed into the whole disability rights debate. It must be easier for their ‘voices’ to be squeezed out in any discussions.

You don’t know as much as you think you do.

Those who are deaf can, if they wish, register with their local authority, and can access help and certain benefits.

Check it out on the NHS website.

Oh no I forgot, you don’t think hearing problems are a disability.......

Chewbacca Tue 21-Jan-20 13:13:03

And he can’t even sing in tune. He really is a joke, isn’t he?

And then:

Chestnut your post just beautifully illustrates your complete inability to hold a reasoned, rational, informed discussion on ableism.

Ironic!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 21-Jan-20 13:20:53

Buttonjugs calling LF a "young gammon* is racist.

growstuff Tue 21-Jan-20 13:24:30

Eglantine Being registered with a local council as deaf is not the same as being "registered disabled".

quizqueen Tue 21-Jan-20 13:24:36

I side with Lawrence- it is Meghan's behaviour and attitude which has annoyed the public and media, nothing to do with her race. My proof of this statement is that I have neither seen or heard anything derogatory about her mother, who has considerably darker skin than her daughter and who has behaved with decorum throughout this whole debacle!

Saying white people cannot understand racial discrimination is ridiculous. Are the Irish, Polish, a lot of Jews etc. not white? I'm sure they will say they have been discriminated against at some point in their lives. At the moment the most discriminated against people seem to be white young heterosexual, rich and posh males because of positive discrimination in favour of women, those of ethnic origin, those of 'other 'sexualities and the 'have nots'!

growstuff Tue 21-Jan-20 13:25:57

Why's it racist GrannyGravy13? I know what the street slang term means, but I wasn't aware it was restricted to people of any particular ethnic group.

growstuff Tue 21-Jan-20 13:29:05

I think Fox's version of reverse racism is the same one that the BNP, UKIP and various white conspiracy theorist have used in the past.

PS. Having read some of his tweets over the last few days, I seriously think he's off his trolley or overdoing some hallucinogenic substances (or both).

trisher Tue 21-Jan-20 13:32:53

growstuff that's what his dad did. Then spent 9 years in a religious community.

growstuff Tue 21-Jan-20 13:41:43

I didn't know that. I've been following his Twitter account off and on for the last couple of days and most of the stuff he's written just doesn't make sense or is truly bizarre.

Eglantine21 Tue 21-Jan-20 13:45:48

growstuff I didn’t say I was registered disabled, I said I have a registered disability.

And because I, and others, cannot sing in tune, suziewoozie regards us as a joke. Not the disability. She didn’t say not being able to sing in tune is a joke. She said

He can’t even sing in tune. He (the person) really is a joke.

As I said, that really is ableism of the worst kind. Presumably suziewoozie can hear so regards those who can’t as a joke,

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 14:21:40

www.youtube.com/embed/BLkvtHwSyM4

If this isn’t a joke, it will do until a real joe comes along, LF is s joke because he thinks he can categorically stare what is racist or not. This utter lack of self awareness is demonstrated afresh and beautifully by his actually believing he can sing in tune. He is a talentless rather stupid person who is not disabled by his inability to sing in tune

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 14:25:37

For the sake of clarity, there is no such thing as a registered disability. LAs maintain voluntary registers for people who are blind/partially sighted or deaf/hearing impaired. The main benefit is making it easier to get a disabled persons railcard. There is no register for people who cannot sing in tune.

Chewbacca Tue 21-Jan-20 14:25:59

You've got too much time on your hands! grin

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 14:28:48

Chew and your point is?

GrauntyHelen Tue 21-Jan-20 14:29:09

I thought he was DREADFUL

Chewbacca Tue 21-Jan-20 14:39:09

My point sooziewoozie is that you've managed to derail a discussion about racism by Googling YouTube for clips about the protagonists singing skills. Or lack off. And you then have the audacity to criticise another poster for having the inability to hold a reasoned, rational or informed discussion. As I said upthread.... ironic.

Opal Tue 21-Jan-20 14:59:13

LF is s joke because he thinks he can categorically stare what is racist or not

And yet you think you can categorically state what is "disabled" or not? Hmm, double standards.

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 15:00:16

Chew I haven’t derailed the thread - some of us made the perfectly rational point that would it be acceptable if LF had said to a Jewish person or disabled person that he knew better than they did what constituted anti-semitism or ableism? The validity of his comments could not be discussed meaningfully without engaging with this wider context. I’m sorry if that’s too difficult for you to engage with. As for the clip, it’s all over Twitter along with others which amply demonstrate his complete absence of any musical talent whatsoever which failures is only compounded by him complete lack of awareness of such absence. So time taken to copy and paste said clip about 10secs

suziewoozie Tue 21-Jan-20 15:04:06

Opal I have only categorically stated that not being able to sing in tune is not a disability - stop lying about what I have stated

Chewbacca Tue 21-Jan-20 15:06:17

Another sneering, patronising and condescending post. Is that your default setting for all of your posts when someone doesn't agree with you SuzieWuzie?
