Prince Andrew has provided “zero co-operation” with an FBI request for an interview about Jeffrey Epstein, a US prosecutor said today.

Speaking outside Epstein’s New York mansion, US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said prosecutors and the FBI had contacted the Duke of York's lawyers and asked to speak to him about the disgraced billionaire.

“To date, Prince Andrew has provided zero co-operation,” said Mr Berman.

Commenting on the investigation into Epstein’s sex trafficking charges, he added: “Jeffrey Epstein couldn’t have done what he did without the assistance of others, and I can assure you that the investigation is moving forward.”

He confirmed the investigation is looking into possible “conspirators” of Epstein.

Epstein died in prison in August 2019, and his death was ruled to be a suicide.

Prince Andrew’s relationship with the convicted sex offender has come under renewed scrutiny since he gave an interview to the BBC discussing their friendship.

He was accused of lacking empathy for Epstein’s victims and of failing to show regret over his friendship with the convicted sex offender.

The Queen’s son was pressed by BBC journalist Emily Maitlis over why he stayed in Epstein’s US mansion - despite knowing he had been convicted of sex crimes.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre, who says she was trafficked by Epstein, has claimed she had several sexual encounters with Prince Andrew starting when she was 17. He denies the claims.

She said she danced with Andrew in Tramp nightclub, adding he was “the most hideous dancer I’ve ever seen in my life” and “his sweat was… raining basically everywhere”.

Virginia Giuffre says she was left “horrified and ashamed” after an alleged sexual encounter with Andrew in London in 2001.

Following a backlash to the BBC interview, the Prince withdrew from royal duties in November last year.

Speaking in November, a British QC warned that Prince Andrew could face arrest in the US if he travels there to speak to the FBI.

Baroness Helena Kennedy told the BBC: "I wouldn't be wanting to send him there because I would be very concerned that suddenly he might be arrested and not able to leave the US.

"I would be very anxious about that."

Just what I have been thinking eezybee.

Alexa, play me some relaxing music whilst I absorb that.

A prince of the Realm wasn't properly educated? He's the son of the Queen of England for goodness sake! He was brought up with every privilege known to mankind! The Queen's son didn't know that there are some bad people out there? Well hello! It was general knowledge that Epstein had served 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to procuring for prostitution a girl below age 18 (US) yet PA continues to visit him, because in his own words, 'it was convenient to stay with him when in NY.'

He was a father with two young daughters at home and should have ceased to spend time in the company of such a man. Of course he knew Epstein was a 'bad adult'. It seems he simply must have liked the company of such people.

I think what most people don't understand is why he apparently won't give a statement to the FBI.

Anyone who may have information regarding a crime is asked to give a statement of what they heard or saw (if anything). That is what he is being asked to do but for some reason is refusing to do so - hence the speculation as to his motives.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 09:04:43

Is he refusing to give a statement or refusing to go to America
to give a statement?

Oldwoman70 Thu 30-Jan-20 09:07:56

I am sure they would be willing to travel to UK if he made himself available to make a statement.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 09:10:09

We don’t know if they have said they will come here

suziewoozie Thu 30-Jan-20 09:17:42

Well we went over there to interview AS so there’s precedent. You just don’t want him to be interviewed at all do you annie.? You don’t think those women need or deserve any justice do you? You don’t think that powerful famous men should have to face the consequences of their behaviour? But basically you don’t want any more information out there that might damn him even more. Why do blinkered? Why so misogynistic?

Oldwoman70 Thu 30-Jan-20 09:18:50

I recall reading late last year that US investigators would travel to UK and that the meeting could take place in either the US embassy in London or his lawyers offices. He could also ask for a list of the questions in advance.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 09:20:34

suzie you have posted lies.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 09:22:22

Oldwoman you read ? we read over and over on this forum
we can’t trust the press .

Who said what you claim ?

suziewoozie Thu 30-Jan-20 09:34:45

Been keeping a list have you annie?

Oldwoman70 Thu 30-Jan-20 10:08:43

I don't keep a note of where and when I read something - have better things to do. However I do recall reading it but of course you won't believe me because your defence of Andrew is only outweighed by your hatred of Harry and Meghan

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 10:13:31

You read it, can’t remember where , can’t remember who said it ? Must be true !

Oldwoman70 Thu 30-Jan-20 10:38:18

Yes, it is true but as I said your blind defence of Andrew means you are calling me a liar.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 10:46:13

No, I don’t call people liars, I don’t hate people.

You read something, all I did was ask did you read it in the press ?

suziewoozie Thu 30-Jan-20 10:46:46

The irony is stunning - the MM hate threads were predicated on gossip, lies, rumour, innuendo, lying by omission - you name it. There’s none do blind as etc etc

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 10:50:52

I

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 10:51:15

So sorry I yawned

Oldwoman70 Thu 30-Jan-20 11:00:26

Anniebach I would continue to argue the point with you but I have more important things to do. I can only assume you work for Andrews PR company or possibly have a crush on him. I don't know and I don't care.

It is a fact he has not given a statement, has not replied to requests to give a statement and has shown no compassion for the victims of Epstein

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 11:06:10

I agree

He has not given a statement

Has not shown public compassion for the victims of Epstein

I can’t agree or disagree that he has not replied to requests to
give a statement because I don’t know if he has been asked to
give a statement if they come to this country or if he will go
to America.

Alexa Thu 30-Jan-20 12:00:34

Ginny, people get some funny ideas and live their lives accordingly. PA's alleged funny ideas must have originated somewhere .

It's not very interesting to go on and on asserting without trying to discover possible origins of his alleged bad behaviour. There is a bigger conversation going on about social and moral education in curriculums.
I accept PA's education was expensive. What went wrong?

suziewoozie Thu 30-Jan-20 12:07:00

There are plenty of old Etonians who do not behave like PA. Perhaps in part because they had better parents who didn’t spoil them so much and encourage a sense of outrageous entitlement.

Anniebach Thu 30-Jan-20 12:18:03

I wouldn’t know, I don’t know any old Etonians, perhaps someone can gives names and tell us how their upbringings were different, who were the parents who didn’t spoil their sons etc

Grany Thu 30-Jan-20 12:30:37

All this fuss about PA of course he should be asked questions he was there. And what about the monarchy as a whole Where do they get all the money from shouldnt they be more accountable?

All families produce a mixed bunch of characters.
Those characteristics coupled with our own experiences produce some similar & some divergent personalities.
Princess Margaret was different altogether than the Queen, if Margaret had been the first born & become Queen ..... who knows?!
