How will we measure the success of Brexit?

Well we won’t know the terms of Brexit for another year, but I’m wondering how the marvellous benefits will be measured, and if they don’t happen will people ever accept that it wasn’t a good idea? Based on the promises that were made I can offer the following we should look for as a measure of success:
1. No border in the Irish Sea and no breaking of the GFA
2. £350 m a week for the NHS and the 40 new hospitals, thousands of new nurses
3. We should have parity in the number or quality of trade deals we manage to negotiate plus they should not be fewer or worse than the ones we have already with the EU.
If the above do not happen will anyone admit we have been lied to? Or will they just say it takes time - if so, how long do we have to wait for any benefits?

A Nazi salute is always a hate incident, and often a hate crime. They are therefore a police matter. If a crime, you will be charged, if an incident it will be noted. If you repeatedly make Nazi salutes then it is likely to be seen as harassment and become a crime.

Teaching your dog to Nazi salute is also not acceptable (& expensive) www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-43864133

Nazi salutes are unpleasant indeed, but not illegal as far as I know, or do you know different?

lemongrove Sun 02-Feb-20 19:47:52

Why are you going on and on like the duracell bunny about Nazi salutes Nez......you seem fixated on them.Have you ever seen one on the street or in a pub? I certainly haven’t.

Nezumi65 Sun 02-Feb-20 19:40:44

Well aprilrose wasn’t spot on about the Euro (in fact was completely wrong) and was incorrect when stating that Nazi salutes are just an expression of free speech. So not sure what your bar for ‘good points’ is.

lemongrove Sun 02-Feb-20 19:38:24

Aprilrose...your posts are spot on???
When other posters become insulting you know you are putting a good few points across.
growstuff you need to be more grown up in your responses.

“Genuinely’ - Christ.

Since we are going to get controversial. I will add that having worked in food banks and other similar social provisions, many of those using them have a lot of other issues that are not easily dealt with. The same goes for homelessness. I have a great deal of sympathy for those who are genuinely homeless or hungry but they are far fewer than you might think.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 02-Feb-20 19:21:55

Rubbish Aprilrose, you need to get your facts right about the Euro. And yes we did have many problems before joining, slums, smog, long working hours, and many others that you have conveniently forgotten.

MaizieD Sun 02-Feb-20 19:21:52

Are you on the right thread, sarahellen?

sarahellenwhitney Sun 02-Feb-20 19:16:05

Whoops! christmas

MaizieD Sun 02-Feb-20 19:14:27

In fact, eight EU member states don't use the euro. And, Cameron had negotiated a permanent opt out of the euro before the referendum.

Please stop talking nonsense, aprilrose

sarahellenwhitney Sun 02-Feb-20 19:14:06

MOnica that's like the weather forecast informing us of an impending heatwave on chritmas day.grin

Nezumi65 Sun 02-Feb-20 19:05:21

You are wrong about the Euro aprilrose We did not have to adopt it had we stayed. Nor does Denmark. fullfact.org/europe/eu-countries-euro-2020/

aprilrose Sun 02-Feb-20 19:03:37

No job losses no food banks, no homeless, no long waiting lists for the NHS, no winter crises in the winter in A&E. Green fuel, no large food price rises and so on

I am old enough to remember a time when there were no food banks and everyone was fed. The NHS did not have long waiting lists there were no crises in winter A&E and food prices were stable. That was before the EU of course.

Green fuel is a new one. I am not convinced by that anyway.

aprilrose Sun 02-Feb-20 19:01:06

When have we been ruled Aprilrose? We always had a say and a vote and a choice

There I would disagree with you. We would have no choice in accepting the Euro if we had remained in the EU. The deadline for accepting that currency is March 2020. We are now out and it doesnt apply.

Accountability in a beaurocracy that has unelected offcials making the rules. An organisation that has not given a set of accounts for 15+ years. One that is led by people who have histories and reputations for fraud fraud and lies. Look them up. The EU parliament is a lap dog not a decision maker.

Barmeyoldbat Sun 02-Feb-20 18:53:44

When have we been ruled Aprilrose? We always had a say and a vote and a choice, We choose for instance not to take on Euro and as for accountability, well we always had that as well. Will joining up with the US give us so called freedom, I think not.

Nezumi65 Sun 02-Feb-20 18:44:33

Aprilrose - you said Nazi salutes aren’t illegal & then equated them with free speech.

It may be a fact that it’s perfectly legal to Nazi salute your way through whatever high street you want, but it’s not something I want to see. If Nazi salutes ever come to be seen as an acceptable expression of free speech I will weep for what has been unleashed in my country.

dragonfly46 Sun 02-Feb-20 18:42:56

Barmeyoldbat I shall be really happy about Brexit if all those things are realised.
Is it likely? I think not.

aprilrose Sun 02-Feb-20 18:38:21

How about adding accountability to the electorate by the government and not being ruled by some far off beurocracy?

Barmeyoldbat Sun 02-Feb-20 18:35:52

how will measure the success? No job losses no food banks, no homeless, no long waiting lists for the NHS, no winter crises in the winter in A&E. Green fuel, no large food price rises and so on. Respect and equality for all, rich or poor. Boris keeping all his promises of a wonderful country.

aprilrose Sun 02-Feb-20 18:34:59

In another thread I have pointed out a fact and have been told I am not entitled to state it. Are fact based opinions only allowed when they concur with yours or those who agree with you?

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 18:31:38

Fact-based opinions - there's a difference!

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 18:31:12

Thank goodness we have to differ. I couldn't be like you for anything in the world. I believe in facts!

aprilrose Sun 02-Feb-20 18:30:43

Thats OK growstuff. You are entitled as any of us to an opinion, but thats all it is.

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 18:30:10

I'm struggling to believe that you're not some kind of badly programmed computer. Or maybe fake news really is the new norm.
