Hubby and I have just got back from Parliament Square celebrations (stayed longer than planned as the atmosphere was electric!) - We all made so many new friends (both leavers and remainers) - Hellllllo to the "Backing Singers"! grin And Tenby Angels Helllooo - Hopefully we will see some new members joining GN. (I've warned them about the welcoming committee, don't worry). wink
There is definitely a wonderfully, optimistic buzz in the UK!
I love this British wave of positivity.
Reminds me of the Berlin Wall coming down.

I haven't voted for a right wing government, where children are hungry
I haven't voted to see young people sleeping on the streets

If you look you will see that although these are dreadful situations, they are not specific to the UK. Deprivation is rising throughout Europe and the US, hence the rise in populism.

Well my son has managed to get the same brand of epilepsy medication every day since he started on that brand.

Have you ever seen a tonic clonic?

SirChenjin Sat 01-Feb-20 23:44:12

It’s rising across Europe and the US to coincide with a rise in right wing populism, yes.

Yes, in my nursing days I saw quite a few.

Nezumi65 Sat 01-Feb-20 23:47:44

In which case you should understand that people die from them & why consistency of supply is so essential

SirChenjin Sat 01-Feb-20 23:49:25

Joelsnan - NMAHP and medical staff haven’t referred to people with epilepsy as “epileptics” for quite some years now. When were you a nurse?

Evie64 Sat 01-Feb-20 23:49:35

Oh dear, another "handbags at dawn" moment is it? Chill ladies, chill. You're not doing your BP any good now are you?

ananimous Sat 01-Feb-20 23:52:43

As was pointed out to me recently...

Don't forget that the EU oversaw the era of:-

The rise of food banks
Zero hours contracts
Disability sanctions, and suicides
Homeless stats off the scale
Merkels scheme of cheap, unlimited labour.
Insufficient housing, schools, and hospitals for demand.

Where were, they and their big ideas?
The EU rules only help big business.

But wave a flag in their pretty building and woe betide you.

growstuff Sat 01-Feb-20 23:53:21

I'm guessing Joelsnan is a tad out of touch.

Dollymac Sat 01-Feb-20 23:53:43

Austerity Joelsnan, that's the very thing
Populism is a reaction to that

Joelsnan Sat 01-Feb-20 23:54:34

SirChenjin
Okay, maybe my terminology re epilepsy sufferers is not currently PC, however when I was a nurse is irrelevant to you or the thread.

growstuff Sat 01-Feb-20 23:55:22

ananimous How about posting something original? I've seen that meme umpteen times today.

PS. I'm giving you the benefit of assuming that you're not from a bot farm.

growstuff Sat 01-Feb-20 23:56:31

PPS. Not that I assume that the people so intoxicated on winning could give a stuff whether you're working for a bot farm :-(

Joelsnan Sat 01-Feb-20 23:56:33

Growstuff
And when and where did you practice nursing?

SirChenjin Sat 01-Feb-20 23:57:02

It’s not ‘not PC’ - it’s offensive and no longer appropriate within a clinical setting. The implication from that is it’s been a good few years since you were administering any form of nursing care.

ananimous Sat 01-Feb-20 23:57:50

Nice to know I'm up to the minute!?

Nezumi65 Sat 01-Feb-20 23:59:28

It is relevant when someone was nursing. A retired nurse told us to put a finger in my son’s mouth during a seizure. Which gave the paramedics something to laugh about anyway.

SirChenjin Sat 01-Feb-20 23:59:45

Up to the minute in 2014 ?

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 00:00:50

Actually Evie, as somebody who has suffered a heart attack, probably caused by stress and having a slightly raised blood pressure (and having faced death), I'm not prepared to go off to the grim reaper without doing what I can to say what I truly believe.

Nezumi65 Sun 02-Feb-20 00:02:23

TBH though it doesn’t matter when someone nursed or not, if they think it’s fine to brand swap epilepsy meds they’re not dishing out safe advice.

Joelsnan Sun 02-Feb-20 00:04:06

Austerity Joelsnan, that's the very thing

Not every country witnessing rising poverty and homelessness has done so as a result of austerity measures. I never approved of the conservative austerity measures but cannot blame it outright for the problems when the same issues are happening in other countries.

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 00:05:59

Why should I ever have been a nurse Joelsnan? As it happens, I have two sisters, who were both very senior nurses and I know that the role of nurses is different from knowing what is clinically best for people.

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 00:06:46

Which countries joelsnan?

Joelsnan Sun 02-Feb-20 00:07:02

Nezumi65
Who’s dishing out advice re epilepsy medication?
I have seen links to authoritative information, where’s the advice?

growstuff Sun 02-Feb-20 00:07:32

Austerity was a choice by the government.
