Why is his private life so important to everyone he is a lovely man and shouldn't have to explain himself to the media if he was the man next door would anyone be bothered I doubt it.

I'm must be in the minority - I like This Morning, I like Phil and Holly so am therefore obviously a very shallow person judging by all the comments on here. I was quite shocked at his announcement as I had never thought of him as gay. What difference does it make - none at all. He's decided he needs to come out as have many others before him - the stress of living a lie, the worry of being outed by the press and judged by those who know nothing about his and his family's private lives has probably prompted the decision.

The SNP member grooming a young boy is a totally different matter and he should be publicly named and shamed and rightly lose his job.

Not often a typo can be neatly turned like that ?

He’s been in the public eye for many years and probably knew that the press would have a field day so issued a statement to control when and how the news was released. The only ones making a fuss are the ones making a fuss - because it’s amazing how many people actually thrive on this sort of stuff.

I hope he and his family are left alone and I wish them well.

‘Phil’s Secret Shane’

Shane? Who's he?

suziewoozie Fri 07-Feb-20 16:57:42

If he wasn’t forced to out himself, maybe he and his wife have agreed to his being able to be open about it so he can have gay relationships? Who knows? If so, then you can see why he’d announce it otherwise there’d be a photo of his leaving a gay club headlined ‘Phil’s Secret Shane’

rafichagran Fri 07-Feb-20 16:55:37

Gay or not, I could not care less. I did not think he was Gay at all but so what if he is.
The reasons he made this public are his, and his alone, all the rest is speculation, and supposition.

rosenoir Fri 07-Feb-20 16:47:39

Why do so many people need to announce things about themselves.

Within a few minutes of meeting somebody they tell you they are vegan, gluten intolerant, or a member of the LGBTQ community or one of the many other labels and then they complain if they are singled out or not given special treatment.

I would rather it was on a need to know basis, and mostly as there is no effect on them or me ,I do not need to know.

Anniebach Fri 07-Feb-20 16:46:09

Surely there is a reason to suddenly make this public announcement? He spoke before someone else did or he
has met someone he wants to live with .

lemongrove Fri 07-Feb-20 16:42:15

He isn’t the first person working in the light entertainment business to say that they are gay, and won’t be the last, it’s not exactly a revelation anyway ( I had assumed that he was gay and didn’t know he was married.)
Was he aiming for sympathy before being blasted by somebody as other posters suggest, or before the papers got hold of the story? Who knows.
Whatever it was it wasn’t brave, not in 2020!

Framilode Fri 07-Feb-20 16:28:47

He's had a lot of critical press lately regarding Eamonn and Ruth and I think he is after the sympathy vote. I agree with the others, no matter how long his wife has known would she really want their private life paraded on t.v.

suziewoozie Fri 07-Feb-20 16:25:08

Thanks for that jan It’s good it was his own choice - nevertheless the gutter press is still in the gutter.

Grandma70s Fri 07-Feb-20 16:23:58

I’m astonished by all the fuss. I didn’t realise that being gay was such a big deal. I thought society had got over that years ago, and that now we just accepted that some people are.

janipat Fri 07-Feb-20 16:17:55

He confirmed in the interview that nobody was forcing his hand, he'd decided to make the statement of his own volition. So all those outraged that our gutter press had forced him can now rest easy.

Desdemona Fri 07-Feb-20 16:08:22

Up to him innit. Not sure why anyone needs to "come out" anymore.

Cherrytree59 Fri 07-Feb-20 16:06:49

I dont care that he is gay.
He will get lots of support and Pats on the back from all the luvies.

His wife of 27 years and family are the ones that deserve the support.

Manmar2 Fri 07-Feb-20 16:01:47

Well said TerriBull - absolutely spot on!

sodapop Fri 07-Feb-20 15:20:19

Tend to agree lilypollen keeping quiet has not harmed his earlier career either. Cynical moi?

Kittye Fri 07-Feb-20 15:18:51

What’s with this “ hope he doesn’t start being camp” or “ I always thought he was effeminate” business ?
Not all gay men are “camp” or “effeminate”.
Talk about typecasting !?

Greymar Fri 07-Feb-20 15:11:33

fatuous fodder, indeed.

grannypiper Fri 07-Feb-20 15:03:47

Didn,t we already know this ? I used to live close to where he lives and i can honestly say he was not one of my favourite people to meet i the street. His wife always looked like she had the world on her shoulders, pleasant but sad

Callistemon Fri 07-Feb-20 14:54:59

Have I missed something?

Smiley4 Fri 07-Feb-20 14:53:20

Suziewoozie, no I didn’t think his family just heard about it on TV. he said he had discussed it with them already. He also said there was no one else.
People have a right to live as gay, straight, black, white, whatever they want. I just don’t think it’s a big thing these days.( My own cousin is gay and we get on great)

. I was just wondering why PS would do this to his wife, after 27 years!
