I doubt Meghan would have brought Archie in the first place and if she's concerned about Coronavirus she should stay with him. What if she is exposed to it herself while she's here?
That's if she turns up.

(1001 Posts)I am disgusted by the announcement that these two have sacked 15 British members of staff. What are they thinking?
I ask myself 'how would I feel if I'd upped sticks and gone to another country out of loyalty to my employer, only for them to get rid of me 3 months later.
I would be heartbroken and furious.
Well put M0nica totally agree.
They are not "just interested" maddyone. That I could understand. Many are nasty, vicious gossip-mongers all stating so-called "facts" based on absolutely no knowledge whatsoever.
I did not realise just how vicious old women could be until I came on GN and I still don't understand why.
Actually callistemon you have a point, in this instance they would be castigated for exposing him wouldn't they?
'Racism' is the word for any one with a smidgeon of non-British blood in them to run to, when they cock-up and are found out, whether it is the Duchess of Suffolk or Priti Patel. Yes, all of us will at sometime meet someone who dislikes us because of a stereotype, but both these women were completely accepted, with their genetic heritage not an issue until their behaviour and activities drew criticism and then their friends and supporters started waving the racism flag.
I can not wait to get my Irish passport then when anyone criticises me I will accuse them of being prejudiced because I am Irish.
Hilary Mantel is a highly acclaimed historical novelist, and every time she releases a book she makes a controversial comment on the current royal family. Good publicity and good for sales. Cynical? Me?
I have to add, I'm very disappointed. I see entitlement and hypocrisy as her/their downfall.
Such promise.
Perhaps she was worried about Archie travelling, encountering the virus and bringing him here to meet the family, who have to meet so many people in the course of their work.
I agree with you Jabberwok, it is cruel of Meghan to leave Archie behind so preventing his GGP's from seeing him and his GF.
So security is having to be paid for in Canada where Archie is and here for M and H.
Harry is on the road to estrangement from his family
.
GracesGran
Posters are just interested, they can’t spend all day and every thread discussing unemployment or redundancy.
Merlot...?
.
I agree with you over paying for their security. It did say the Canadian Gov were paying for a while, in the papers. Not going to co tune though, and who can blame them.
No unfortunately it lands on the tax payer.
Also I echo callistemon when she asks is HMantel opinion important at all?
Jabberwok
Excellent comment, you’ve summed it up perfectly. I totally agree that H+M had the potential to do so much good. And the Queen has behaved admirably and with dignity. It’s so sad that that everyone in the family is being totally refused access to Archie. I doubt the Queen and Prince Philip will ever see him again.

You are correct in saying that Hilary Mantel knows a great deal more about royal ladies than do the majority of us. However life is very different today than in Cromwell’s time and royal ladies have a very different role, a role I might add, that Meghan has fully rejected. Had she lived in Cromwell’s time I very much doubt that she would have got away with what she has done, and tried to do in Queen Elizabeth’s time.
Being a support for William and Kate isn’t what she thought she was expected to be in my opinion, she thought she would
be ‘a Diana’,
What a disappointment for her, walking behind Camilla and
Kate, Remembrance Sunday standing on one balcony whilst
The Queen, Camilla and Kate stood together on another balcony
I was downloading some 'cello music the other night and stumbled across Harry and Meghan's wedding soundtrack.
It got me thinking, Was it really such a short time ago that we were so happy for them? It's been a whirlwind sticking up of two fingers at us all it seems.
Yes, sorry, should have said, I know exactly who she is, jura
ExD1938 just why is this important to you? People are being made redundant every day as structures change. Have you really nothing better to worry about?
Hilary Mantel writes about the 16th century. I don't think the present RF are to be compared with the attitudes of 400 years ago!
merlot
I’m sure Hilary Mantel is fully aware that making controversial comments just as her latest book is released will get her attention, and therefore more sales. A bit like Meghan really, anything to get noticed.
I get a bit fed up with authors, pop stars, famous business people et al spouting their opinions on everything from Meghan to global warming. I’m quite able to make my own mind up and judging by comments on all the huge number of threads on Gransnet, so are all of you.
Yes, I have read one of her books but I do not like books written in the present tense so I won't be reading another one.
Yes, she does have a book to flog, merlotgran.
She may have done a lot of research but her views are just that.
I don't think the State has got rid of this particular Duchess, who was never going to be Queen Consort anyway. In fact, their going has left a gap to fill as far as Royal jobs are concerned.
Quite a nuisance really.
I think that this sad saga has been a bitter disappointment to the majority of the British public, who welcomed Meghan with open arms , were so pleased and happy for Prince Harry for finding love and contentment with this seemingly lovely lady, willingly paid for whatever, whenever, without too much of a murmur! I agree with easybee, we wos conned from day one! as were the RF, who from all reports did their best to make this woman feel welcome. Even now the Queen is showing extreme wisdom and tolerance despite being told that her G.grandson won't be visiting during this, in what will probably be the last time she will see them! How cruel is that?! Equally sad is the fact that these two could have done so much good particularly in the Commonwealth where they proved how popular they were. It's now just down to William and Katherine to take the RF into the 21st century. Harry and Meghan could have been such a support in what could be difficult times for W&K. They too must be very upset to put it mildly!!! Poor weak Harry and his vile grasping wife! At least Joan Collins has had a good laugh at Meghans expense!!!!
She writes fiction ? ,
I've read her books, jura. How strange that she makes these comments when she's got another one to flog.
I just looked up Hilary Mantel , she is an historical fiction writer !
Calli ''Is Hilary Mantel's view any more valid than anyone else's?
I am asking that quite sincerely, not to stir.''
perhaps you have not read her books, and don't know her field of expertise- or watch the interview where she gave the historical/cultural context for her comment. She is a specialist in Royal history, and particularly interested in the rôle of Royal women and wives- and how the State 'owned' those women and shaped them to be what they wanted them to be, to serve their purpose- and got rid of them, one way or another, when they didn't conform.
With the above in mind, I'd say the answer is that Hilary's analysis stands as above mere 'opinion' from you or me.
Megan is suppose to be flying in today, she must be concerned
she has chosen to do so whilst William and Kate are on a three
day official visit to Ireland, she does keep getting her timing
wrong doesn’t she !
eazybee,
You’ve got it in one short comment.
I think that Meghan’s attempt to make money from her SussexRoyal foundation/company is truly disgusting and it has been the main thing that has formed my negative opinion of her. The Royals are rich beyond imagination but it wasn’t enough for her. Opening a centre for the disabled/ex service men/deprived children or whatever, on a wet afternoon in Grimsby or wherever was absolutely not Meghan’s idea of royalty, she wanted to be rich, famous, woke (hate that word) and adored. She discovered that royal life is about duty in return for the fabulous wealth. It wasn’t for her.
The other thing that disappointed me is that she has removed Harry from his family, his charities, his life, his heritage, and his country, and in doing so, Archie has also lost his family, heritage, and country. Archie has no family except his parents and one grandmother. In other words Harry and Archie have been isolated.
Oh well, I suppose they’ll still have the fickle and self absorbed Hollywood set. What an exchange!
