Available from next month (once old supplies have been used up!)

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 09:40:48

Ah well.

And I am surprised at paddyanne's post too - I know you have a loathing for England, paddyanne and all things English but to manage to express that and be disparaging about the Welsh and Northern Irish and the status of Wales in one short post was quite an achievement.

?????????????????????

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 09:47:34

Bodach and Dollymac

Ignore yehbutnobut's provocative post.
And be assured that it was Wales and the Welsh National Anthem to which I referred!

There are of course 3 categories of British migrants to Portugal and other EU states (and Turkey is not one, despite all the scare mongering during the campaign)

holiday visitors who will of course take comprehensive travel/health insurance (which will be more expensive as the EHIC/emergency part won't be covered by our Government)

property owners who spend part of their time in Portugal - same as above

and those with property or renting who have moved to Portugal on a permanent basis

I still think of myself as European and I love my Burgundy passport. I am glad to say it will last another 9 years, by which time I may never need one again!

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 11:44:27

Same here - just checked and I was mistaken, I have only 6 years on my current UK Burgundy with European Union on it passport- as it was a 10 year one.

Just as an aside- my first UK passport was black, not blue. We never had blue passports-- and we never had passports made abroad in the EU.

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 11:51:31

Talking about the difference between 'facts' and 'opinion' on another thread. Mrs May announced we would go back to Ye Olde Blue Passports of pre EU Independent UK. But the fact is, it was was clearly black. It was a different size, shape, colour, material and design from the 1980 version, the “iconic” one May was referring to.

Not only that, no Brussels regulation ever required UK passports to be burgundy. There is a rule on common security features, and a non-binding European Council resolution from 1981 recommending burgundy: that’s it. Croatia’s passports are still blue.

And yet, many people actually now 'believe' the old passport were blue- because they have been told they were...

Pantglas2 Mon 24-Feb-20 13:19:38

You’re right Callistemon- that verse is not in the Welsh National anthem.

oodles Mon 24-Feb-20 13:29:39

I've still got my old black passport and am glad we have nice compact ones nowadays, and really don't want a dark coloured one again but eventually will have to have one We never had to have burgundy did we, more lies and propaganda
What I'd really like would be a fluorescent colour. maybe with a reflective bit so if it got lost I'd be able to find it easier. whoever thought a dark blue or black coloured one was a good idea, maybe it has a covert aim of getting us to get new ones more often so more income for the passport office

MerylStreep Mon 24-Feb-20 13:35:02

Callistamon
even if it is the best no 'ifs' it is the best ? It gives me goose bumps.

Greta Mon 24-Feb-20 13:51:30

Colour is obviously very important to some posters. Do you sit and look at your passport, then? I pick mine up when I need it and later put it back again and I can honestly say I don't give it a second thought.

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 14:06:57

Pantglas thank goodness, someone read my posts! smile

MerylS, yes, especially sung by a male voice choir.

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 14:09:30

Greta I often take mine out and admire it
wink

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 14:15:48

oh my, how exciting

cupaffull Mon 24-Feb-20 14:18:03

I am sad to hear .....
"Documents revealed French firm Thales have been given the contract to oversee the new blue British passports and that they will be made in Poland"
Is it really trueshock that we can't make our own?

paddyanne Mon 24-Feb-20 14:27:12

I do not hate all things English Just WESTMINSTER .I have English family and believe it or not English friends .The attitude on the English parliament ,and that is what it is depsite denials from on this site ,towards Scotland are nothing short of disgraceful .
Did WESTMINSTER have to ask the EU for permission to have the referendum. No they didn't,so why is it necessary for us to ask several hundreds of MP's who know nothing about Scotland and care even less to go the polls in a UNION of which we are supposed to be EQUALS .
Westminster treats us and the other component parts of the UK with the same disdain they treated colonies for centuries .
I said only what is true,NI and Wales were "aquired" in a different way to the SIGNED treaty between England and Scotland ,I wasn't insulting anyone .My late aunt from Newport Sth Wales often remarked the same thing

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 15:22:57

''Greta I often take mine out and admire it''

oh myyyyy precious, me wants it

Firecracker123 Mon 24-Feb-20 16:14:05

Well I said you were sad ?

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 17:56:38

My granson said I am 'peng' - no idea what it means, but apparently it's a compliment smile

varian Mon 24-Feb-20 19:03:13

It's hard to imagine anything more pathetic than people rejoicing in having a new blue passport when they voted to deprive themselves and everyone else of the Feedom to move to, live and work in 27 other European countries. Pathetic.

Kandinsky Mon 24-Feb-20 19:07:28

lol - we’re still free to do all those things. We are allowed to leave the country you know. hmm

varian Mon 24-Feb-20 19:15:22

You no longer have the right, which we all had until 31st Jan, to live and work in 27 neighbouring countries.

Leave the country if you wish but do not take it for granted that you will be welcome to stay in any of the other 27 EU countries.

You and others like you have deprived us all of that right.

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 19:17:57

peng
Fit, hot or goodlooking, someone you really like (apparently)

If my DGS says I'm OK, I'm happy
grin

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 19:19:20

Apparently he told DD that I was 'all right'
A compliment indeed!

M0nica Mon 24-Feb-20 19:21:51

I don't want one and will not have to have one until 2028.

jura2 Mon 24-Feb-20 19:23:49

Nowadays not 'fit', not hot and not goodlooking - but after a day of giggles on the slopes, where I can still keep up and give him a run for his money and do a few tricks he can't do...'peng' I was. That will do for me. Happy.
