In this morning’s DT
THE Duke of Sussex has been duped into speaking about his decision to quit the Royal Family by hoaxers pretending to be Greta Thunberg, it was claimed last night.
The Duke was pranked by Russian jokers who convinced him he was speaking to the teenage climate activist and her father, according to The Sun. He alluded to tensions between his wife and himself, and the rest of the Royal family and also criticised Donald Trump, who he said “has blood on his hands.
The two phone calls were reportedly made to the Duke at his rented home on Vancouver Island, Canada, on New Year’s Eve and January 22, by Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, known as Vovan and Lexus
Do you all remember how “Sheik gate” put an end to Sophie Wessex’s career plans? I fear that without the protection of a Royal Press Officer Harry risks being a bit of “an innocent abroad “

Exactly that job share! Charles you do the outdoorsy stuff, I'll stay in the warm and sign things.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 16:37:08

They have been doing this for some time.

Greymar Sat 21-Mar-20 16:51:22

Really ? since when?

sodapop Sat 21-Mar-20 17:11:46

I don't agree that the MPs expenses issue was dealt with. I think there are still a lot of unnecessary claims going in and that is without the House of Lords. I notice that an above average pay rise has also been 'agreed' for MPs.

maddyone Sat 21-Mar-20 17:25:30

sodapop
Totally agree with you. And The House of Lords, they get £300 per day just for turning up, plus expenses. I think it’s anything but dealt with.

trisher Sat 21-Mar-20 18:13:09

How extraordinary to think it's OK for a system to exist over which you have no choice (and that includes the H of Lords) and which you pay for, but the one that you actually have choice over is flawed (which it well may be) but at least you can complain about how that is administered. Surely there is more likely to be anachronisms in the costs of something which is unaccountable.

The royal family have slimmed down and are continuing to do so. Just because people are members of the family by birth and attend royal functions it doesn't mean that they are drawing allowances or have any official role.
Part of Andrew and Harry's problem is that neither seems unable to accept the difference that primogeniture makes between their life and that of their elder brother.

Greymar Sat 21-Mar-20 20:00:36

It will fade away or shed it skin like a snake. Look at the pictues of the Russian Royal family, so poignant, so sad, so utterly useless.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 20:06:51

I agree eazybee , some see to think the family who appear
on the balcony on the Queens official birthday are all working
royals, it’s her birthday she has her children, grandchildren,
cousins etc with her , and why not .

There are eight working royals, the Queen isn’t going to tell
Anne, Edward and Sophie to retire , they do a lot of charity
work and official engagements.

And Charles will need them, he, Camilla and William and Kate
would be the only ones carrying out royal engagements

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 20:07:57

Cheer up Greymar they were murdered, always hope for
republicans.

Greymar Sat 21-Mar-20 20:24:29

I'm sorry Annie but that was such a very very low blow.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 20:56:17

And calling people who were murdered -useless is acceptable?

Grany Sat 21-Mar-20 21:02:48

Mumsnet

I'd get rid of the royals like a shot. It's like a Ruritainian fairy tale. Archaic.
When one reads up on the royals, all what they own, their powers (eg if any proposed govt action may impact on the royals wealth or property, the royals must be consulted first) I don't see how anyone can support them.
If PA was next in line to the throne there'd be nothing we could do about it. Is that system really what people want?

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 21:04:29

Who is mumsnet ?

Grany Sat 21-Mar-20 21:09:22

Bit younger than gransnet

Greymar Sat 21-Mar-20 21:10:18

I said poignant, so poignant, those girls in their white dresses, the young Alexei in his sailor suit, unwordly. Look at the Khodynka Tragedy, how remote , how disconnected they were.

That is what I was trying to say. Ultimately they were indeed useless ie without use.

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 21:21:59

No human being is - without use

Anniebach Sat 21-Mar-20 21:23:18

So the post here from mumsnet was a post from another forum ?

Namsnanny Sat 21-Mar-20 21:50:44

This is getting surreal!confused

Have we been intercepted by some dodgy Russian joker?

mumsnet gransnet gumsnet mramsnet Good grief I don't know where I am!

Jabberwok Sun 22-Mar-20 11:03:17

The French RF suffered marginally worse than the Russian. The treatment and death of the Dauphin Louis Charles aged 10 when he died was appalling. It's all in 'The Lost King of France'! Extremely interesting, but a tough read!

merlotgran Tue 24-Mar-20 22:58:48

Praise the Lord, We're saved!

Harry and Meghan have announced on their website that we must.... Wash our hands, not touch our faces, practice good respiratory hygiene (what's that?) maintain social distancing, seek medical care if you show symptoms, stay informed and follow local health directives.

Where would we be without them? [hmm}

Callistemon Tue 24-Mar-20 23:10:17

And after the Romanovs were murdered, Russia became a beacon of enlightenment and democracy and everyone lived happily ever after.

Apart from the 200,000 murdered by Lenin, the 6 million who starved to death and then came Stalin.
Need I say more?

Probably.

maddyone Tue 24-Mar-20 23:51:25

Thank goodness you passed the message on merlot because I couldn’t have managed without their advice.
Are they actually for real!

Callistemon Tue 24-Mar-20 23:53:28

practice good respiratory hygiene
Snorting seawater, as recommended on GN.

Just seen on SkyNews that Harry and Meghan are moving to LA. I think it would be hard to argue that Meghan doesn’t want to be in with the ‘in’ crowd now. I’ve been to Vancouver and I’ve been to LA and Vancouver is a much nicer city. I’m sure living in LA was not on Harry’s bucket list when he met Meghan, he obviously wanted her to join the Royal Family and work on their behalf, not sure that was what Meghan wanted. I believe her plan is unfolding step by step. My opinion only.
