Alex Salmond Trial Verdict

Not guilty on twelve charges, not proven on one. So, he’s not a sex offender. His character, however, has been revealed as unsavoury, at a minimum, even his defence counsel said as much.

I hope no one ever votes for him again, if he should seek election. I stand with those nine (*nine!*) women.

Thanks Daddima for the picture.

This story won't go away although it's a pity it is overshadowed by the Coronavirus situation. There is more to come on this.

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Mar-20 17:55:34

It is. It seems that little has changed from the 1960s. I was assaulted several times and sexually harassed in the office by senior male colleagues when I first started work in the mid 60s, and also on the commuter train to and from work.

It never even occurred to me to report it as many of my friends had the same and we just accepted it as being part of "a woman's lot". How brainwashed were we???? confused

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 17:53:40

Jane’s earlier post is right - he’ll probably get away with it from a legal point of view but we can certainly hope he never works in politics (or ideally anywhere) again.

SueDonim Sun 29-Mar-20 17:49:57

No problem, Sparklefizz I got the general message. Depressing, isn’t it?

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Mar-20 17:45:37

I think we women here are all in agreement.
Sorry you couldn't read the whole article, SueDonim

Jane10 Sun 29-Mar-20 17:43:00

Just read that Sturgeon was removed from the list of witnesses citing the Coronavirus crisis situation as the reason. Curiouser and curiouser...

Jane10 Sun 29-Mar-20 16:09:03

Yup!

SueDonim Sun 29-Mar-20 14:25:08

I suspect most women here are singing from the same song sheet, Maddyone.

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 14:00:18

I can well imagine what you’re thinking maddy and I agree with every word.

maddyone Sun 29-Mar-20 13:51:21

I agree with everyone on here, except for grandad. Some very good posts from everyone. I’m pleased that others seem to feel like I do. I’m a bit worried to post more about what I think on here, it would probably be seen as illegal so I won’t say outright what I think.

SueDonim Sun 29-Mar-20 13:34:13

Whoa! shock I can only read the first part of your link, Sparklefizz but that was enough to get the gist of the thing. shock

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 11:42:59

My apologies Sparkle - it took a long time to load for some reason so I scrolled past the first time. I’ve just tried again and it did open after a while - and oh my goodness shock It confirmed everything we knew was true but on a public train and mentioning the names of two of the women?? What does this mean for both of them, I wonder?

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Mar-20 11:16:44

SirChenjin I posted the link on the previous page.

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 11:10:57

What the??? shocksad Do you have a link to that story Jane?

Jane10 Sun 29-Mar-20 10:46:16

His defence lawyer is now in trouble for loudly discussing the case on a train while the case was still on. Called Salmond what he was - a sex pest, but also identified 2 of the witnesses. Hope he's struck off. He'll probably get away with it though. Sigh. The reality of life in SNP Scotland. ?

SirChenjin Sun 29-Mar-20 10:36:20

Well done those women - I applaud each and every one of them.

Sparklefizz Sun 29-Mar-20 10:00:23

This is very revealing.

Thanks for the link Annie. It's good to see the women haven't been pushed into silence.
Its one step forward, two steps back so far as the sexual treatment women are expected to put up with in the workplace. What an arrogant egotistical idiot to assume he can return to a political life after this.

Anniebach Sun 29-Mar-20 09:09:52

The women have written an open letter

Wee Alec should quietly disappear from public life and count his blessings that he was not found guilty on this occasion. His behaviour towards women has been appalling . However, his ego seems to be driving him on. Writing a book? What will the title be? Fifty Shades of Groping?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Mar-20 13:25:41

trisher I totally agree with your post of 09.59.43

SueDonim Fri 27-Mar-20 12:59:26

I’m loving your posts, Trisher, SirChenjin et al. Thank you.

SirChenjin Fri 27-Mar-20 11:39:49

Absolutely agree trisher - women are still seen as disposable commodities by too many men who in turn are protected by the law.

One day.... ??

trisher Fri 27-Mar-20 09:59:43

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this case no one can deny that women have not been well served by the whole process. One of the women was a Scottish Government Official so should have been able to at least establish sexual harassment, but was failed by the Scottish Government. Then it seems possibly because of Salmond's victory (and £500,000 in costs) they were led into a trial, where their experiences were regarded as consensual. It's an example of women once again being just something the machine can use and spit out when they are finished with.
