This in response to the PM being hospitalised with this dreadful virus.

I'm sure all employers have very robust procedures in place setting out social media use.

put one should be outcome

Chewbacca Sat 11-Apr-20 18:06:04

Thanks Grandad1943, appreciate your reply. It will be interesting to see what the put one of that hearing is because it has similar parallels to the Sheila Oakes case. Her offensive comments were made on her personal Facebook page and she also made no reference to her employers. However, her employers felt that she was sufficiently well enough known to be employed by them as to bring their company into disrepute by connection and she was summarily dismissed within days. Time will tell 're RMT's action though.

Grandad1943 Sat 11-Apr-20 17:59:24

Chewbacca, in regard to your post @17:36 today, Headley made the offending statement(s) on his own Facebook page which has no direct connection with the RMT union.

Therefore it would seem that the only disciplinary allegation that can be brought against Headley would be one of "bringing the RMT union into disrepute. However, Headley would have had to made reference to the RMT and his role within it on that page in the last few weeks for there to be any chance of making the above allegation hold good in any disciplinary hearing.

My feeling is that there may be underlying issues in this matter over and above what is being stated on the surface. Headley must have been aware of the trouble he would cause for himself when he posted those words.

The RMT union has looked somewhat unstable in its structure since the sudden death of its almost legendary leader Bob Crow.

I would not choose one life over another
Goodness, no.
Although I would give mine for my child or grandchild.

I'd be upset if Corbyn was ill or lost his life to this even though I don't like his politics.
Just as I am for all those lives lost.

Chewbacca Sat 11-Apr-20 17:41:49

How can we expect to have a decent discussion about anything of relevance when one poster is unable to express themselves any more articulately than to call a whole strata of society vermin? hmm I don't often go on the news and politics threads but I can't ever recall having seen anyone refer to the Labour party, Lib Dems or any other political party as vermin.

POGS Sat 11-Apr-20 17:37:07

Well that answered you again Ilovecheese.

Chewbacca Sat 11-Apr-20 17:36:53

Grandad1943 Can I ask why you have little optimism that Headley will be sacked by the RMT? Is this because the trade unions are reluctant to admit that their members have transgressed common decency or another reason? Genuine question.

Jabberwok Sat 11-Apr-20 17:27:51

Well, I couldn't abide Corbyn and his cronies, but I would certainly never describe them as vermin, still less the wider Labour movement, and I would never ever wish them or anyone else dead.

trisher Sat 11-Apr-20 17:07:44

Not if they are honest about it Pantglas2 unfortunately some just adopt a 'holier than thou' attitude and pretend otherwise. 'Ooh shock horror we would never say anything nasty!!!!'

Pantglas2 Sat 11-Apr-20 17:04:00

And people would do the same with Corbyn/Starmer trisher nothing namby-pamby about it really is there?

Anniebach Sat 11-Apr-20 17:00:58

I would not choose one life over another

trisher Sat 11-Apr-20 16:55:18

And if someone was to ask me would I trade Johnson for one of those NHS staff lives then I'm afraid I would.
I expect that to shock all the namby pamby shock -horror mealy mouthed sycophants posting on here.
But quite frankly 28 NHS staff deaths concerns me more than one man's outpourings on facebook.

Grandad1943 Sat 11-Apr-20 16:54:33

Here's hoping am64 but I fear that will not be the case.

Grandad1943 Sat 11-Apr-20 16:53:16

tickingbird those rules (legislation) apply to all who are charged with disciplinary offences by their employers.

I am not aware of the case you Quote, therefore I would not care to comment on the matter.

Iam64 Sat 11-Apr-20 16:51:01

I’ve not read the entire thread sine early afternoon but - grandad I understand the beurocratic and legal issues are complex. If Headley had an ounce if integrity or humility or common decency, he’d resign and apologise

trisher Sat 11-Apr-20 16:50:49

POGS to be honest have had some sickening comments made against me personally but that's GN for you
Well it takes one to know one- re your post about me of 15.44.03.!
And yes Tories are Vermin. Tories have consistently run down our NHS. You know the NHS that we all turn out to clap for on Thursday evening. And they are still trying to cover up and pretend PPE has nothing to do with it. Matt Hancock-hiding the real figures of NHS deaths skwawkbox.org/2020/04/11/video-here-are-the-names-of-28-nhs-staff-who-died-mr-hancock-not-19-how-dare-you-claim-the-lack-of-ppe-did-not-contribute/
How's that for the gift that keeps on giving!!

tickingbird Sat 11-Apr-20 16:49:50

Grandad Would those rules not apply to the Mayor of Heanor, who made remarks in poor taste regarding BJ’s illness? I’m pretty sure she’s been sacked from the solicitors she worked for.

Grandad1943 Sat 11-Apr-20 16:36:25

M0nica, in regard to your post @16:20 today, under legislation any employed person having disciplinary allegations laid against them has to be suspended on full pay while the disciplinary procedure is carried out.

As I stated in my earlier posting that will include a disciplinary investigation, probably a full disciplinary hearing and also possibly an appeal if any penalty is hand down.

In regard to a charge of bringing the RMT into disrepute that may be a difficult allegation to "make stick" especially if the whole matter ends up in an industrial court ( industrial tribunal)

The many of us on this thread will be hoping that Mr Headley loses his job but I would not care to bet on the matter.

POGS Sat 11-Apr-20 16:31:05

Considering what has constituted as ' Hate Speech ' I think there is a case for police engagement.

Chewbacca Sat 11-Apr-20 16:25:51

I think he's been suspended pending a disciplinary enquiry M0nica, although whether that will result in termination of his contract remains to be seen. There doesn't seem to be much optimism that it will though and, like others, there's the anticipation that it will just get swept under the carpet.

M0nica Sat 11-Apr-20 16:20:13

How does suspending him help? A period of suspension until the fuss dies down, possibly some kind of quiet hole in the corner disciplinary process and he will be discretely reinstated.

POGS Sat 11-Apr-20 16:16:59

Gillybob

I apologise profusely for so making so many posts in answer to those who have mentioned my name.

This thread is worthy of getting back on track re Steve Hedley comment, please accept my apology.

POGS Sat 11-Apr-20 15:58:16

Ilovecheese Sat 11-Apr-20 10:46:44
Lucca expressed the way that I feel by saying "POGS. I honestly don’t think anyone here disagrees that mr hedley has expressed appalling views.
----
Really, have you read this thread?

I do not care if you and others discredit, speak about the Conservative Government in a either a generous or hate filled manner. I don't usually join in with threads concerning the Conservative Party, take a look!

The fact is my comment about Hedley ' hit a nerve' with some and they took my post to be offensive because they decided to assume I must be talking about them.

I have been personally attacked, told to report my post, and to be honest have had some sickening comments made against me personally but that's GN for you.

Oopsminty Sat 11-Apr-20 15:47:25

She is indeed, POGS
