Oh dear, it's not going well is it?

Ellianne Wed 14-Oct-20 15:59:33

Does Camilla preach?
I'm not sure Catherine does either, just a few words on motherhood, photography, gardening and she has been around way longer.
These ladies know their place in the RF and conduct themselves accordingly, which to be fair is maybe why Meghan wanted out. She is now free to express her views, although she does seem to think she is an expert in so many areas it is becoming tiresome.

Galaxy Wed 14-Oct-20 15:47:36

So that goes the same for William then and Charles I assume. They both preach.

To be honest Callistemon none of us knew who she was before she became Harry’s girlfriend. It’s not surprising that a charity based in Canada used her to raise their profile, after all, she was living and working in Canada. Possibly quite a few Canadians watched the tv show she was in. Here in the UK many people watch EastEnders or Coronation Street and are aware of the characters in those shows, although they are not particularly famous. I imagine Meghan fell into that category, not particularly famous, but known in Canada by those who watched the show.

As for me, I had never heard of her, I didn’t know her from Adam! Had anyone else on here heard of her before Harry?

As for Catherine, I’d never heard of her before William. William made her famous. The same for Meghan, Harry made her famous.

Which is bigger , her ego or her mouth

Meghan used to be on social media, but had to close her sites down when she married Harry.

Well that says it all for me!

maddyone....13 Oct 23.33 same for me.

Callistemon Wed 14-Oct-20 09:47:36

To be fair, Meghan was campaigning for women's rights and gender equality since she was young. She had addressed the UN

Meghan Markle was a Global Ambassador for World Vision, the world’s largest international children’s charity, from 2016 - 2017. She travelled to Rwanda in early 2016 with World Vision to see first-hand the importance of clean water.
^Meghan is a true humanitarian. We’re deeply grateful for her contribution as a global ambassador for World Vision over the past two years and for helping to raise awareness for the world’s most vulnerable children.
I personally witnessed Meghan's passion to improve the lives of children and, know her heart to advocate for the rights of girls – to hear and amplify their important voices.
She will undoubtedly bring vast energy to her charity work as a member of the Royal Family. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for her and Prince Harry – a couple who clearly have a heart for social justice.^
Lara Dewar, Chief Marketing and Development Officer, World Vision Canada

However, her profile has undoubtedly been raised by marrying Harry.

I agree with merlot, it’s her preaching and the content of what she preaches. Who in God’s name does she think she is? I despise celebrities who decide to preach to the rest of us. Lily Allen comes to mind, and there are a fair few others. Meghan is no different, she’s just a celebrity preaching to the masses. She has no qualifications with which to give her arguments weight, it’s just her opinions, no more valid or less valid than yours or mine.

merlotgran Wed 14-Oct-20 09:26:48

So it's her tone rather than content. Make your mind up!

Both. I don't need to choose.

Meghan doesn't discuss. She preaches.

Galaxy Wed 14-Oct-20 09:12:42

I think there are serious concerns about the way in which social media is influencing our politics and debate, sounds perfectly reasonable thing to discuss. Its debated on here frequently.

merlotgran Wed 14-Oct-20 08:26:55

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8836453/Meghan-Markle-compares-social-media-users-drug-addicts.html

So, now she's comparing those of us who use social media to drug addicts!

While she was spending Lockdown holed up in somebody else's mansion, the rest of us were using social media as a 'lifeline' to keep in touch with family and friends we couldn't see'. It helped to keep us sane.

She might despise Donald Trump but she's beginning to sound more like him every day.

Delusional!

I have a mixed race grandchild, who like Meghan looks white, despite him having the most beautiful big, brown eyes. I also have another grandchild with absolutely gorgeous long red hair. I don’t think either of them have got anything to do with how I view Meghan. Or Harry.
My views of Meghan and Harry have been formed by their words and deeds.

welbeck Tue 13-Oct-20 23:22:13

i think most of us got that connection, and found the picture entirely harmless at the very least, maybe even quite charming.

Callistemon Tue 13-Oct-20 22:38:36

unless you were clumsily trying to suggest a connection to dogs and Meghan?
Oh dear, that is a dreadful thing to accuse someone of! shock

There was a discussion about ginger/red hair and there has always been discrimination against red-haired people which Harry has acknowledged himself.
The dogs looked red haired in that picture. I thought that was the connection.
Ginger.

merlotgran Tue 13-Oct-20 22:35:17

No ganging up or clique behaviour on my behalf, PECS I was just asking why you are replying in a negative way to a post that doesn't really have anything to do with the discussion.

It's a common occurrence for a poster to sometimes drop a jokey 'aside' into a conversation - I often do it myself and I didn't dislike your response, I just didn't think it was necessary.

Ellianne Tue 13-Oct-20 22:31:08

Is it necessary for me to apologise to you a 3rd time PECS? What are you trying to achieve here?

Callistemon Tue 13-Oct-20 22:24:31

I'm not ganging up, I like(d) Meghan, have mixed heritage family members, can't understand why an 11 year old at a posh private school had to fill in a form about her ethnicity without her parents being present (disgraceful); yes a picture of redhaired dogs was a jokey distraction but just ignore posts that are irrelevant!

Callistemon Tue 13-Oct-20 22:19:25

PECS

Not remotely interested in dogs belonging to people I do not know.

Don't look then!

???

PECS Tue 13-Oct-20 22:05:03

Merlotgran why do think you can suggest people do or do not comment on a thread just because they post something you don't like? Your remark could , alongside Elliane's be constued as ganging up or clique behaviour. Not nice.

PECS Tue 13-Oct-20 21:53:03

I am not , as I have stated upthread, interested in the lives of the members of the RF. However as person with a mixed heritage I am intersested in the experience of others and the attitudes/ opinions of others towards those of dual heritage/ mixed race.

The implication in the comment of
challenging why am I on this thread Elliane suggests you'd rather I pissed off. I fully understand irony. Unfortunately the photos of dogs were not ironic.. unless you were clumsily trying to suggest a connection to dogs and Meghan? ?

merlotgran Tue 13-Oct-20 15:32:02

PECS

Not remotely interested in dogs belonging to people I do not know.

Why are you on this thread if it disagrees with you so much, PECS?

Ellianne Tue 13-Oct-20 15:12:09

Anniebach

Good grief, she is barking

Even Annie mentioned dogs!!

Ellianne Tue 13-Oct-20 15:11:01

Terribly sorry PECS. And I have apologised once already.
So why are you interested in comments on Meghan's heritage, colour, hair, dogs, husband, house etc which this thread is all about? I assume you know her personally?
You also don't get the irony in some of the latest comments, when earlier a poster said the thread had evolved in all directions and was no longer fit for purpose!!
