I think your young friend has missed the point biba.
No one minded that an actress, married a bloke from a posh family. No one minded she was black. No one minded the expensive wedding, the beautiful clothes, the visits abroad. UNTIL the actress turned her back on the posh family and flounced off saying unnecessary things about her hard life and how unwelcoming people were.
The irony is that the author of that post, no doubt Ametican, obviously has little understanding of how let down the people of Great Britain actually felt.

Annie that's usual in divorces, only in this case it didn't matter ,legally the monarch can take over any child in the family.

We have to assume that M was intelligent and articulate enough to acquaint herself with the history of the RF when she decided to become embroiled in it. An English law degree wouldn't have been required; but, assuming that she was as savvy before she married H as she's been since, I don't think it unreasonable that she would have taken some small amount of time to have done a little research into its history. As you've demonstrated in your post, a quick Google search has thrown up the RF's traditions. And she knew that she was marrying into a large family with very strict traditions. No one to blame but herself. Ignorance is no defence.

I would imagine that the law itself had been forgotten (It was only introduced because all the Georges hated their own children and none more so that George 1) and was only resurrected by some enthusiastic lawyer when Charles and Diana divorced. Are you really suggesting that anyone marrying into the RF should first make a study of English law or is it once again just an attempt to dismiss the idea that actually M might have had a valid reson for leaving the UK?
