There seems to be a growing belief amongst some that anything other than conservatism must be communism. Reds under the bed and all that. They self identify by opposition to a mythical bogey-man just as much as they crave mythical unicorns.

Lord Fox is an unknown, who has paid back the money. He messed up, said sorry - story over.

I'm not defending him in any way, but there really are more important things going on at the moment.

I certainly wasn’t defending the extreme right by any means, I was pointing out that where there are humans there will be the whole range of good and bad qualities, as it’s what’s in people’s hearts that shows through.

Having said that, I have seen the most vile hatred, spite and venom from both extremes - it really is shocking and the extreme left are just as good at at being vile as the right.

In my very long life, I have never noticed much honesty or kindness coming from the extreme right wing of the political spectrum.

Varian - ignorance and lies are found right across the board and can’t be attributed to one particular group of any kind of people, just as is honesty and kindness etc.

So which was it - ignorance or a lie?

Both traits are often found in the extreme right

He's a Lib Dem Peer obviously the usual vocal leftwing posters couldn't possibly criticise a Lib Dem.

I doubt if many people have heard of Lord Fox, so I doubt if his career and reputation will be damaged too much.

It’s the sheer greed I find disgusting .And whilst it is shameful, it is probably all perfectly legal

Disgraceful.

No doubt the cost to his reputation and the damage this will do to his political career, will far out weigh any financial gain; let's hope so.
