Will he resign?

I've thought for a while that Boris doesn't answer as straight as he used to off the cuff. He seems to be looking over his shoulder for clarification and approval all the time. And I've thought for many months that Cummings has too much influence. It's happened before with chief advisors. They take over.

Urmstongran, central London to Durham is at least a four hour drive. He would have required a break from driving on that journey if he was not to have endangered his family through fatigue and drowsiness. Therefore the minute he stopped that car he was putting others in danger as he is admitting that a person in the car was infected with Covid-19.

As most of the journey is on a motorway if he touched any fuel pumps etc in any service area he would have been placing multi other persons at risk of infection.

The very reasons he is putting forward as his justifications for making the journey are the exact reasons why the government were demanding people should not make such journeys.

So Cummings breaks the lock-down rules and gets found out. Does he care?

Outraged, law-abiding citizens who have been following guidelines, not going out, having close contact with friends and family and so on , see that he's apparently getting away with it. Think 'If he can get away with it, so can I'.

Masses decide to visit relations and abandon social-distancing, catch the virus, plenty die.

Herd immunity is accelerated.

Mission accomplished.

I can't stand the man but I can stand kangaroo courts even less. Came back (again) after a break from GN and found nothing has changed. How foolish to think it would have done. Back to real life, I think.

GGumteenth in regard to your post @09:22 today, as the Tories are refusing to have any sort of investigation into cummings behaviour, how are the public to learn anything if not for press reporting and discussion on social media?

Grandad1943 Cummings is in his 40’s. My husband is 68y and drove us 4 hours up to Glasgow from Manchester , no problem. We didn’t need petrol until after we got to Skye. So no touching of petrol pumps. It’s not a given! Nor did our aged bladders need the loo until Glasgow.

The media hounds are all over this right now. I expect they’ve been checking every filling station from Islington to Durham already in the hope of the confirmation of a ‘gotcha’ moment.

I don’t think they’ll come up with one.

Urm perhaps you may not realise just how cross those of us here who have been abiding by the rules, and presumably Cummings's slogans, are feeling right now at his 'bending' of the rules.

In fact, downright fuming.

Cummings venturing out whilst having Covid19 or living with someone that had it, is indefensible. He, his wife and child stayed together in another house and merely needed food delivering. He could have had food delivered to his London home. It's just more spin. He put people's lives at risk - indefensible. Full stop.

It as a good thing that the Stay At Home message had been amended to Stay Alert before this incident was made known. We always need to be alert to what is fact and what is opinion but especially now.
Fact: Cummings broke the government lockdown guidelines.
Opinion: He didn’t.
My opinion is that he is a liability and should resign so we can get on and the PM can then bring him back at a later date if he can’t do without him.

No he is not a government minister. Stop being such toady snitches. We used to accuse Nazis of this. Not all of us agree with destroying the economy. We have become a nation of the unfit, grossly obese, lung problems and heart problems, perhaps that is why we are dying in bigger numbers than elsewhere. Let us get our own selves in order before we pillory others.

Reading these comments has made me realise this site is not for me. I broke lockdown this week. My 5 yr old granddaughter fell through a bedroom window last Tuesday fracturing her leg pelvis and ribs and is currently in hospital in Oxford 30 miles away.Her parents have been travelling back and forth swapping over being with Aurora. They also have a 4 mth old baby who cannot be left at home , left in the car or taken into the hospital so I have been there when needed to look after her. None of us know how coronavirus will affect us , are you all suggesting that Dominic Cummings and his wife when ill with the virus should stay in London and let a 3 yr old fend for himself REALLY !!!!!!!! Compassion and understanding seems to have gone out the window

Grant Schapps this morning was trying to wriggle out of saying anything to excuse Cummings. He seemed to imply that there was absolutely no one who could get food for them if they were both ill and that's why he went. The other big question is where did he stop on the way up to Durham for a comfort stop. There is no way 3 people could drive 260 miles which would tale at least 4 hours without the need to go to the toilet. Who were they in contact with then?

Agree Curly. Simples. But it seems most of the nation interpreted the rules wrongly, and those who we’ve all been getting annoyed about for visiting elderly parents had it right all along.

The journey from London to Durham is a good 5 hours. I know this because I have done it on a fair number of occasions (with small children) when Mr Maizie's parents were still living there. Our starting point in Durham being not many miles away from Cummings' parents' property.

Most children are toilet trained by the time they're 4. I doubt that they would revert to peeing in their pants just for the convenience of their parents.

Whether or not the covid ridden Cummings Seniors stopped for petrol or loo breaks is a bit of an irrelevance. Plenty of evidence of them not isolating when they got there. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a few more people don't come forward with evidence of sightings...

Of course he will resign after a few days of faffing. Boris will make him fall on his sword because he fears the people will lose faith in him otherwise. Then, in a few months, he will probably be quietly reintroduced into the cabinet.

Missdee54, Mrs. Cummings had a relative that lived near them in London. No need at all to drive 260 miles.

Your situation is quite different, and devastating. I hope your granddaughter is feeling a bit better soon. Her poor parents must be in a terrible state. Wishing you all well.

He said the usual "It's not what you think" - and then there were excuses like - he lived in a separate residence / he needed childcare / blah / blah / because his wife has symptoms. These people should be leading by example. Yesterday, here (in Malta) we had photos of MPs having a cosy snack together (the diners and restaurants opened again). Cheeky idiots, the whole lot of them.

Mrs Cummings has a brother and a sister both living in London. Unless they have totally disowned her for marrying such a nasty creep I would have thought they'd have been perfectly willing to help where they could..
