I think we should be grateful to Cummings.
He has demonstrated that the lockdown or stay alert or whatever mantra is a total nonsense, not just for him but for everybody. And is sending this country into a tailspin of financial instability.
It has frightened otherwise sensible people into staying behind locked doors. Turned us into snitches.

Another loyal Tory interviewed on todays Andrew Marr programme was advising Boris to get a move on and get rid as this isn't a good example for any of us and he must have known the media would get hold of his story . The Sunday Mirror which sways to the left has also printed a story that he drove another 30 miles with photo of him getting out of his car . The camera never lies .
I feel he should go as Boris has enough to deal with . If he had any respect he would rethink and clear off.

Did he see his family or not?
Wife was ill , not him or his son?
Police questioned him?

For what it's worth there are some bit of information from other GNs here that are not accurate: many people (even me at 70) can drive for more than 4 hours. What car was he driving because there are cars out there that can do that sort of mileage without stopping to refill. I went out to garage at a very quiet time of day/evening to refill and used pay at pump. Didn't meet a soul.

I do think he should go as this is now making the police's work very difficult if not impossible when trying to keep us all safe.

Putting his parents at risk? I don’t think so. He didn’t move in with them and the their garden is the size of a small park! They stayed in a self contained posh annexe. No contact obviously. I’m sure he loves his parents and wouldn’t jeopardise their safety.

I watched the cv update thing on tv yesterday- all were questioning them about this- they were all flustered in the answers- a lot of 'er,er,er' and bloody excuses of putting the childs health& safety first etc, and i wondered why no one asking questions thought to ask, who looks after child at home- surely they have a nanny? Or could have hired one? Or a private nurse? (Theyre not poor people!) Or the obvious one? WHY NOT GET THE AUNTIE& NIECE TO TRAVEL DOWN TO THEM INSTEAD??It would have been far less risky. .I dont accept that this is 'allowed' as within the guidelines- its not at all- and there was NO mention on yesterdays update of his uncle dying of covid 19 at time they were there either- again putting that child at risk- any normal person would have been fined for disobeying lockdown rules,and probably had a visit from social services as well for taking a child to a house where someone already knowingly had the virus!!! There needs to be a full investigation..it looks to me like they just went there to be with his parents for the uncle being ill/dying!! If they 'were in a different building' why were police told they were there? And how could any of his family 'look after' the child, as the child had been with its parents,who were ill already,(the mum) or as cummings, 'ill the nxt day' - then the child would have had to be isolated also,wouldnt she??The whole thing smacks of a cover up!

I am sorry to hear about your granddaughter and hope she makes a good recovery.
You cannot do anything else under the circumstances, but the Cummings family had COVID19 and had other options available to them.

None of us were there, none of us are aware of their family relationships / circumstances.

We do not know what time they took the journey"( as far as I am aware) if it was in the evening/night the child would be asleep so no need for bathroom breaks.

Perhaps they took a picnic like we did years ago before motorway service stations (they'd have been closed anyway!!) perhaps they deviated from the motorway and found a quiet country lane to stretch their legs, perhaps they took a screw lid bucket and a potty for their lavatory needs. Perhaps their vehicle was able to make the journey without needing to fill up, our little Fiat will do 300 miles on a tank! How come all these people who saw them out and about were out and about themselves?!! Barnard Castle would have been closed over Easter?!! Surely the person?!) who saw them on the bluebell wood shouldn't have been there either?!!

Missdee54, your situation is entirely different. It's quite acceptable to look after a 'vulnerable person' so, obviously, a baby. You were/are needed.

We are criticising the totally unnecessary long journey and relocation. Their child could have been looked after (if necessary) by relatives in London. We all recognise a lame excuse when we see one.

So, why did they bother to drive 260 miles (5 hours) if they were just going to isolate in a house completely separate from his parents'? Don't tell me it was for child care - did they hand over a covid 'contact' to his parents, both in their 70s for the duration?

If they did, why did both Dom and his wife tell separate stories about their 'isolation' which placed the child firmly in their own care?

Initially I had no hesitation in thinking he should resign. Later on reading other reports I wasn't so sure. What would someone do who had a child, both parents with Covid-19 who were concerned they may become too ill to care for the child? Also they allegedly stayed in a separate part of the property, his sister looked after the child and brought supplies to the doorstep. Which media rag are we to believe?

What I think is, what if there had been an accident. He was putting lives at risk if people had had to attend to them. It's like climbing a mountain ill prepared, and endangering other lives. There's no excuse for what he did.
