Will he resign?

News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.

Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.

Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.

Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.

Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.

There is no media trial - he has not denied that he did it i.e. broke the rules and did not stay at home but drove to another part of the country. The media (and many others) are simply saying that he must take the consequences of his actions.

There are already comments on other threads here virtually saying that if he can do it, then so can I. How will we contain a second wave if this notion takes root?

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:31:15

Ah, so the responsible way to stop the spread is to travel about the country with it.

Maybe I’m naive, but I’m shocked by the number of posters defending this man’s actions. nightowl Sun 24-May-20 17:18:41

What are they defending? He did something that is allowed under the guidance. Who among those putting this point is a Conservative supporter? It is possible to stand back and look at the facts whichever party he is working for.

I am very disgusted at your attempt, it appears, to call those who disagree with you as dishonest.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:32:41

Johnson has lost the argument.

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:33:07

This beggars belief!

Fennel Sun 24-May-20 17:34:53

I've never been able to understand why he seems to have such a strong influence over the decisions of the present govt. He's not even an MP.
Is he a senior civil servant like Nigel Hawthorne's character in Yes Minister?
There's more to this than meets the eye. It doesn't make sense to me.

nightowl Sun 24-May-20 17:35:04

Boris Johnson is not doing very well answering these questions is he? It’s quite painful watching him squirm. Dancing to Dominic Cummings’ tune.

I wonder if the police have found Mr Cummings at home yet?

JoyBloggs Sun 24-May-20 17:35:38

I'm speechless... possibly for the first time in my life angry

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:35:45

... he has not denied that he did it i.e. broke the rules and did not stay at home but drove to another part of the country.

Which rules did he break? He took into account the need for childcare. That is within the rules.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:35:58

So someone without the disease and NOT spreading it is forced to resign

But someone who potentially spread it from London to Durham is excused!!!

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:36:21

He is floundering badly, but obviously sticking to a script.

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:37:01

It's just your inbuilt bias. Mine does not make it look that way.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 24-May-20 17:37:30

HE. DID. NOT. GET. ANY. CHILDCARE. IN. DURHAM

Greta8 Sun 24-May-20 17:37:54

Oh well, looks as though it's a win, win for Johnson and Cummings, today anyway. They obviously bank on a percentage of the public being naive idiots. Thankfully not all of us are though. It will be interesting to see how this develops- how many of us are content to be 'played' in this way? The clock is ticking..............

Lucca Sun 24-May-20 17:38:13

Quote Boris. “Looking at the very severe childcare difficulties that presented themselves to Dominic Cummings......”
W T F. !?
One child
Big house
Plenty of money

That is insulting to struggling families.

He had choices, he chose to drive 250 miles.

I find myself yelling at the television

Early Pinot.

nightowl Sun 24-May-20 17:38:20

GGumteeth please can you point me to where in the guidance issued on March 23rd it said it was OK for someone who was self-isolating due to having symptoms of coronavirus (or living with someone with symptoms) to leave their home for any reason whatsoever?

Hetty58 Sun 24-May-20 17:38:24

The Bumbling Jester has surely lost all credibility now? It's just cringeworthy watching him!

Grammaretto Sun 24-May-20 17:38:28

Not grinning. Johnson has to go. No alternative. He's defending the indefencable.
Almost 40 thousand deaths.
Listen PM!!

Chewbacca Sun 24-May-20 17:38:58

He's looking a bit twitchy.........

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:39:15

But someone who potentially spread it from London to Durham is excused!!!

Well done Whitewave. You have just added to the gossip. I am very sad to see that coming from you.

Greeneyedgirl Sun 24-May-20 17:40:05

I believe he has now declared lockdown over.

Our kids have just texted to say they're obeying their parental instincts and will be dropping our grandkids off with us tomorrow.

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 17:40:44

It isn't gossip. It's fact.

We're being taken for absolute mugs. Our parents, our kids, our carers, our health workers, every one of us. It's such a sad day.

pollyperkins Sun 24-May-20 17:41:15

I must say Im shocked snd disappointed that he’s not been asked to resign. Makes a mockery of the rules we have all been following.

GGumteenth Sun 24-May-20 17:41:33

HE. DID. NOT. GET. ANY. CHILDCARE. IN. DURHAM

As it turned out, no he didn't but that was why he went. That's like saying as it turned out your child didn't die when you took them to A & E so you shouldn't have taken them. Most people would be glad that they didn't need to go that far.
