This has descended to the usual GN infighting, gossip and insult so I am stepping back.
Not because I have changed my views but because this is one place where so many listen to no one but the echo of themselves.

Will he resign?
(1001 Posts)News breaking tonight that Dominic Cummings and his wife, when ill with Covid-19, put their child in the car and drove 260 miles from London to Durham so that they could isolate at his parent's place and his parents look after the child. This happened some time after 27th March. Remember lockdown was imposed on 23rd March.
Seen in his parent's garden with his child on 5th April.
Neil Fergusson resigned because his lover visited his house after lockdown.
Scotland's Chief Medical Officer had to resign after visiting her second home twice after lockdown.
Cummings and his wife drive 260 miles to stay with his parents (who must be in their 60s at the very least)... What will he do?

Story is in most of the MSM now.
It's unbelievable! How can he just not get the incredible stupidity of his defence of Cummings. Career suicide that he'll be able to track back to 5pm today!
Well Boris should be ashamed - but he doesn't do shame. That was pathetic - makes you wonder what hold DC has over him. He will have alienated all but the most gullible of his supporters. No respect for this blustering bore.
I am so angry!
. We, the ordinary public, have been played for fools, treated as sheeple.
I've just re-read the original "guidance" and it is quite clear.
As he probably helped to compile this guide I cannot see how or why he failed to follow it, GGumpteenth.
Of course, that is guidance.
However, the Coronavirus Act came into force on 25th March 2020; which date was it he drove to Durham?
Before then or after?
we can travel the length of the country to stay with family . Good not quite vegansrock -
Cummings basically stayed in his parents back garden ... in a self contained annexe away from them all. So if you can do similar, then fine. Most of us couldn’t.
His sister delivered groceries to their door. He was reassured to have family to hand had it become necessary. Fortunately the family weren’t needed.
In my opinion, this is mostly a witch hunt by people (Remainers, non- Tories and Tory MP’s who don’t like Cummings) who hope to bring him down.
Storm in a teacup.
The signatures are really rattling in on Change.uk now, it should make 100,000 by tonight.
As is so often the case when liars are caught out, they then go on to insult everyone's intelligence by coming out with playground-style excuses. Anything at all, in the hope that people will be thrown off the scent.
It must be dreadful for the Cummings 2, to have no one to care for their Son - even though both of them have jobs and must be away from their home from time to time, if not daily.
It must be dreadful to have to make a decision that no one - other than a family member hundreds of miles away - can care for that 4 year old, thus involving a massive journey (at least once) to another part of the country and taking your filthy Covid germs with you.
It must be dreadful seeking to involve your employers and colleagues in the subsequent pantomime of lies and cover ups in order to hang on to your 'job', and to allow the entire British public to see what a flaky, self-centred, crooked loser you actually are, but
It must be great to know that good old Boris (whose own Father once opined that continuing to go to the Pub might be just the ticket when a pandemic had just dropped onto Britain from a great height) would always back up your feeble excuses and pathetic lies, while exposing the UK Government and their rulings to the rest of the world as simply a case of "do what you can get away with" and to hell with the rest!
Scandalous doesn't even cover it, but this is when brass nerve and rhino hides are shown off with pride and determination.
No wonder thousands of selfless people are angry.
After that date certainly. He announced he had covid on the 30th
The question surely is not the reasons given as to why DC travelled a 500 mile round trip during lock down but THAT HE DID IT more then once, knowing the rules; which he instigated as top advisory to BJ and knowing full well the fall out of his actions.
I think the answer is because he is telling the PM who exactly is in control, and DC wants everyone in No 10 to know it.
We were witness to this with the pathetic attempts by BJ and other cabinet ministers defending DC's actions.
We are lost unless BJ gets a grip.
If Boris had apologised and sacked Cummings it would have made a world of difference to how he is perceived. I'd grudgingly liked him and been impressed by govt handling of the pandemic. But it's goodbye Boris from me.
Sturgeon must be dancing in glee and hoping this will overshadow her cover up of the Nike conference outbreak in February.
I think it was a deliberate ploy for Boris to keep mentioning "what any parent would do", in the hopes of stirring up an emotional response in people.
He wasn't going to be swayed, nor answer any awkward questions, just to keep reinforcing that he is a parent, cummings is, and expecting all to react instinctively in an understanding way.
Time to sack their PR experts!
Right or wrong it is all point scoring politics.
Point scoring?
Nil points.
No it is about fighting a virus that kills
Sturgeon must be dancing in glee and hoping this will overshadow her cover up of the Nike conference outbreak in February.. She’ll be lucky!
For those who are interested, here is the timeline published in the Telegraph, which I would not describe as a newspaper that is unsympathetic to the government. Mr Cummings clearly travelled to Durham after the guidance became law.
March 27: Mr Johnson and Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, announce that they have tested positive for the coronavirus. Mr Cummings is seen leaving No 10 Downing Street shortly after the announcement.
March 28/29: Downing St confirms that Mr Cummings had started displaying coronavirus symptoms “over the weekend” of March 28-29.
March 30: Downing St confirms that Mr Cummings and his wife Mary Wakefield are self-isolating in their London home after developing symptoms of the virus. Although the exact date is unclear, it has emerged that around this time Mr Cummings and Ms Wakefield, together with their young son, drove to an address in Durham, 260 miles from London.
Almost 95 thousand signatures now on the petition.
So we could have stayed with our DD1 when they all had the virus, sleeping in our campervan in their drive then Urmston? I wish we'd known. We were under the impression that
1. Travelling that distance was not permitted,
2. Staying overnight anywhere which was not your primary residence was not permitted, and
3. If you had the virus you must stay inside your primary residence and if you needed help contact your local hub which would arrange it.
At all costs, if you had the virus, or thought you might have it, you must not go outside or travel. Had they not been able to get help anywhere else, their parents or siblings or friends could have come to them. Are they so completely friendless, that not one person or relation locally was prepared to take their child? That only his parents love him enough to help?
Thank you for that nightowl.
Actually this is causing such a backlash that Boris is losing credence with former supporters. Just had one Tory FB friend post that his interview was 'an embarrassment - cringe-worthy'.
This is going to be very interesting as he has played the public who voted him in for fools and they don't like it.
Above and beyond the political issues, we are now faced with the PM endorsing an illegal act which will encourage others to assume that if Cummings can do it, then so can they, with serious consequences in terms of preventing a second wave.
There is no doubt in my mind now that Cummings has some dirt he could dish on BJ and has got him over a barrel. There can be no other explanation.
I think the reason he hasn't sacked DC is because BJ gave him permission. Boris only admitted to hospital on 5 April so he had to know DC was in Durham. If DC goes he will take BJ with him.

The very same thought crossed my mind this afternoon!
On a slightly differentnote, since learning yesterday that Cummings senior - DC's father - was known at school as Crassus, I keep thinking that the same nickname suits his son too, and in my mind DC is now quite definitely Crassus junior!
