GNHQ edit: Following on from previous thread linked to here: Will he resign?

Every senior member of the Royal family fled to their holiday homes, which was against lockdown rules. One of them had the virus. Where is your vitriol for them? Yes, DC did a stupid thing for someone in the public eye but you won't stop Brexit by getting rid of him, no matter how hard you try.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 27-May-20 08:58:11

30th June is the deadline to apply for an extension to Brexit negotiations. If DC does go before then no doubt he will be working freelance from home

Then just watch the MSM go after Frost the governments negotiator

Sparkling Wed 27-May-20 08:51:40

Oops dude is inside.

Sparkling Wed 27-May-20 08:50:59

I hope Cummings does go now.
Why are reporters allowed to crowd outside someone's house in a pandemic? Would anyone feel safe? The people I dude wouldn't, reporters certainly are not.

MissAdventure Wed 27-May-20 08:49:36

I wonder what will be more important to boris?
Saving any scrap of credibility he can scrape up, or defending the indefensible?

Grannynannywanny Wed 27-May-20 08:46:30

BJ is to be questioned by senior MPs today. The first time he has appeared before the Commons Liaison Committee since taking office.

35 Tory MPs have called for Cummings to resign. He’s way too arrogant to admit he is in the wrong. But as the pressure continues to mount against BJ from his own side he may be forced to sack him in an attempt to save his own neck

MaizieD Wed 27-May-20 08:40:43

It would be fun to have a constitutional crisis in the middle of all this, wouldn't it?

If there were enough rebel tory MPs to support a vote of no confidence.. hmm

Daisymae Wed 27-May-20 08:21:46

Cummings had waited his whole life to be at the heart of government. I don't think that he is going anywhere.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 27-May-20 08:20:08

Listening to R4 a government minister is re-writing the law as he speaks.

MaizieD Wed 27-May-20 08:19:49

Cummings knows where the bodies are buried, growstuff. I think it's as simple as that.

Curlywhirly Wed 27-May-20 06:47:01

And think we are all thick. How could any reasonably intelligent person believe Cummings's story? They went on holiday.

growstuff Wed 27-May-20 03:33:48

And taken so many people's good will for granted.

growstuff Wed 27-May-20 03:32:49

What is so shocking is that they've played with people's lives to win their game.

growstuff Wed 27-May-20 03:27:59

The only mystery is why Johnson sticks with him.

The whole thing is a load of cobblers. Cummings is a strategist. If he wanted to cover up or even hide what he'd done in the first place, he'd have done a better job than this.

My personal feeling is because they want this to carry on until it's too late to ask the EU for a Brexit extension.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they both go shortly after that and leave others to pick up the pieces and wash their hands (singing Happy Birthday) of the whole thing.

growstuff Wed 27-May-20 03:22:50

Sparkling You are making a huge mistake in thinking that Cummings would behave according to social norms. The man is an anarchist and completely amoral. He's probably laughing at all this because the point is he really doesn't care. Listen to what he's said to journalists about not caring what people think about him.

SueDonim Tue 26-May-20 23:44:04

Gumteenth your post at 21:22 this evening is beyond parody! Should we now brace ourselves for the discovery of a tsunami of abandoned children with dead parents in British homes?

Sparkling Tue 26-May-20 22:46:01

If he had anything about him he would resign, all this badgering by the other side and the press going over old ground is detracting from Corona, these daily bulletins should stop, its just feeding the vultures, there will be another spike as people haven't got the message which should be clearer. Boris' loyalty is misplaced, he went back to work much too soon and he obviously trusts and wants this man as his advisor. DD should do the honourable thing and resign Gregory any more damage is done. It is upsetting seeing all these people on the beaches and tubes, the NHS must be so disspurited by all this, they are working themselves into tge ground. Get cleR he's sages out there, get rid of Dc if he won't resign, and do one press conference a week with clear directives..

janipat Tue 26-May-20 22:40:46

nightowl you obviously care enough about each other and the wider community to actually keep to the rules. If your son had become too ill to care for your grandchild, you'd have stepped in I'm sure. Your son has integrity, pity DC and BJ are devoid of this quality.

nightowl Tue 26-May-20 22:29:15

What a pity my son didn’t have the foresight to bring his four year old to us when he, a single parent, was diagnosed with coronavirus. He cared for him alone. We all played by the rules. We obviously just don’t care enough about each other angry

janipat Tue 26-May-20 22:16:41

GGumteenth bit melodramatic eh? The choice was drive an infected person to Durham or have a little boy alone with two dead parents? Amazingly I've missed the news of hundreds of families who didn't make such journeys and who must have perished leaving their little children alone with dead decaying parents. There was plenty of help available to them in London. For goodness sake do you really think Dominic Cummings couldn't summon up any amount of help he wanted at the click of his fingers?

MissAdventure Tue 26-May-20 22:03:23

I'm sure polls could be introduced here.
I'm also sure they won't be.

Factfinder Tue 26-May-20 21:58:45

If only this was Facebook, we could do a poll. I'd love to be able to relay to my husband what the Gransnet consensus was. He and me are divided on this issue.

MayBee70 Tue 26-May-20 21:48:59

Obviously doesn't watch Line of Duty...

merlotgran Tue 26-May-20 21:46:42

You'd think he would have read or re-read his wife's article before writing his statement. Getting their stories to match is surely a priority if you're going to lie your way out of trouble?

Maybe he thought we were all to stupid to notice?

MayBee70 Tue 26-May-20 21:38:17

Actually all of what I'm going on is what Cummings said and his wife wrote/said. Although, strangely enough, they both seem to give a totally different account of what happened? So is it any wonder that the whole thing stinks?
