fennel ?. Sorry to disappoint

Media frenzy- one thread exhausted and still it goes on. Trial by media, twitter and now gransnet fora. It's a story because the media make it so, it's what they are good at - let's get everyone het up and indignant baying for blood. Morons who spit and protecting family can't quite make the connection there. If the police knew about it in March why now and not then. How many on this thread have stuck rigidly to guidelines I wonder. Glass houses and stones come to mind. Its pathetic the whole media circus and the great British public fall for it every time. Next week it will be something else.

Good point Luckygirl.

varian Mon 25-May-20 18:44:03

What is the matter with London, that there apparently was no support for a family with a child?

Luckygirl Mon 25-May-20 18:43:17

The other really important thing about Cummings' misbehaviour is that the police will be in a difficult situation - they were already struggling to pin down the letter of the law when stopping people - this will just muddy the waters still further. Not good for law enforcement.

He also said that he was so ill he could hardly stand, yet he was able to pick his wife up from hospital with their son. Another hole in this debacle is that he said he was worried about attacks on his family if they stayed in London, but surely the government's chief adviser would have security if he was that worried.

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 18:41:27

Oh, yes, just say you’re a peripatetic child carer and then people will welcome you with open arms!

varian Mon 25-May-20 18:39:46

Is it a good excuse if I don't have any friends or relations that could look after my child?

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 18:38:38

You need to check with your doctor first and then go for a wee drive to test for Wobbly Eyes, Varian.

Fennel Mon 25-May-20 18:36:34

@ Whitewave
" Whitewavemark2 Mon 25-May-20 17:15:02 Oh well he’s gone."
I shouted this to husband, he had just come in, but was so disappointed when we saw the reality. grin
Sorry to grin, but this is like a pantomime.

I've just watched this DC show and I feel sick.

Should I get in the car and drive hundreds of miles to wherever I want?

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 18:32:09

The difference between Cummings and any of us doing what he did is that none of us is telling the rest of the country to obey the rules and Stay Home. He disregarded his own advice.

I’ve been ill at home on my own for days at a time yet still managed to look after my kids. Who cares if they eat nothing but crisps and Mars Bars for a few days? They lived to tell the tale!

Grandad1943 Mon 25-May-20 18:30:46

Is the situation now that holiday home rental companies can now open them up to visitors from today along with all the holiday caravan sites.

Is it that all these organisations have been analyzing the crisis regulations wrongly and they should have used their own "interpretation" of those regulations?.

Nannee49 Mon 25-May-20 18:27:22

Tooting 29 it matters because the bottom feeders who spit at police and key workers can all now moronically justify themselves with " well, he's done what he wants, so can I" without reference to scruples, morals or the greater good.

Nandalot Mon 25-May-20 18:22:52

Just watched a bit again on the news. He HAD to stop and get out at Barnard Castle river as he felt sick but well enough to drive 260 miles the next day. Not sick then.

Pantglas2 Mon 25-May-20 18:22:43

You’ve met him have you Dinahmo to know the difference? Do tell......

Grandad1943 Mon 25-May-20 18:22:08

Firecracker123, any person who takes his wife and four year old child on a thirty-mile drive when they think they may have defective eyesight can have little concern for the safety of their family.

Others would have difficulty in causing greater danger than the above whatever they may think of.

Nannee49 Mon 25-May-20 18:21:54

We are being ruled by utter, bull sh*tting donkeys!!!

If he hadn't broken the rules there would be NO MEDIA FRENZY.

And firecracker to link this with the murder of Jo Cox is completely irrelevant and in extremely poor taste.

Tooting29 Mon 25-May-20 18:19:00

Just another media feeding frenzy, so what... man drives 260 miles so his child and wife can be cared for in the event of illness. If it had been you or me would we have got this press coverage. Fed up with it all and the breast beating. In the great scheme of things does it matter, there is far worst thing happening to focus on. Such as horrible people who spit at police and key workers, let's name and shame them. Those who defy guidelines and drive to beauty spots then urinate and defecate on peoples property- name and shame them. Fed up with the whole circus.

Galaxy Mon 25-May-20 18:18:39

Using a womans death as a threat is beyond words.

SueDonim Mon 25-May-20 18:18:25

I’m going to phone my doctor tomorrow to ask if I’m fit and healthy and if they say yes, I’m going off to see my family! Before I set out, I’ll go for a 30 mile drive to make sure I don’t have Wobbly Eye Syndrome. ?

If I get ill or anyone I visit gets ill, I’ve got a 17yo niece who’ll look after us - I don’t have any problems with infecting her with.

Also, I’m not concerned that, should I become sick and need hospital treatment, I’ll overburden the hospital at my destination instead of using my own hospital.

It’s at times like this I’m glad I’m speshull! grin

merlotgran Mon 25-May-20 18:18:19

If anything terrible happens to Dominic Cummings or his family like it did to Jo Cox the blood will be on your hands.

That's a little dramatic Firecracker. grin

varian Mon 25-May-20 18:17:39

Firecracker how dare you mention the despicable Cummings and the admirable Jo Cox in the same post.

Galaxy Mon 25-May-20 18:17:35

They did ask about that Dinahmo. I think they did well. Sky and channel 4 were particularly good.

Dinahmo Mon 25-May-20 18:16:16

I think the press were quite lenient with Cummings. They didn't ask about the story his wife told in the Spectator which apparently implied that they were in London
