I don’t mean whether you agree with certain political policies, I am talking about competence, knowledge and integrity.

I truthfully can’t think of a single one.

All PMs have a weakness, no doubt but this goes beyond anything I’ve every seen or read.

Can you think of a Prime Minister worse than Johnson?

Can you think of a President of the USA worse than Trump?

Gajahgran Why did the attempt to link the pandemic to Brexit come from those supporting Brexit? It has emerged in the past couple of weeks as a theme and was confirmed by Danny Kruger's message to other MPs.

growstuff Tue 02-Jun-20 11:09:15

No.

No.

Tory MPs told to save Dominic Cummings to ensure they ‘get Brexit done’

Devizes MP Danny Kruger - son of Bake Off judge Prue Leith and is also close to both Cummings and Wakefield - has sent a note to the new intake of Conservative MPs stressing how important it is that Cummings remains in government.

In it he stressed those calling for the senior aide to resign were effectively giving a vote of no confidence in the prime minister.

varian Tue 02-Jun-20 11:21:50

The irony is that is those who want to keep Cummings who are implying Johnson is useless without him, who are effectively giving a vote of no confidence in the PM.

MaizieD Tue 02-Jun-20 11:24:00

Your post at 11.21. Absolutely, varian

growstuff Tue 02-Jun-20 11:48:43

varian That note also said something about keeping Johnson in post was the only way to ensure Brexit "got done". I found it quite odd when I first read it because I hadn't come across people criticising Cummings and saying "Oh goodie! Now we can cancel Brexit". The whole thing is a pro-Brexit narrative.

growstuff Tue 02-Jun-20 11:50:02

… as is the media-bashing narrative.

Lucca

I apologise if my post upset you. That was not my intention.

I fail to see how anybody can respect Boris Johnson as PM. Many years ago I worked for a man who was very similar. This man's mantra was ”look on the bright side”. My job was to keep the books in good order, he made it his job to make himself invisible. He was also extremely economical with the truth; part of the reason why he only lasted one year.

As regards Boris Johnson one is reminded of his Eton tutor's illuminating remarks. He would now probably say "told you so".

Wordsworth's line: ”The Child is Father of the Man” is very apt.

Gagajan I am quite happy for you to have your opinion ,but that is what it is, YOUR opinion. I do not think are in a position to talk about my friends when you do not even know them and find it quite insulting that you do so in such a dismissive way.
People all over the world have their own views on this country and the government and these views should be respected.

westendgirl Tue 02-Jun-20 12:32:32

Apologies, I misspelt your name Gajahgran, that was quite unintentional.

Dinahmo Tue 02-Jun-20 12:34:21

Gajahgran

I completely agree with Growstuff'spost of 11.04.

I live in France and have done so for the last 12 years. Ever since the referendum our French friends have talked politics with us. They enjoyed John Bercow's pronouncements (especially Order!Order! which they would mimic). They were shocked at Johnson's attempts to prorogue Parliament but most importantly they were bemused by and shocked at the decision to leave the EU.

They are even more shocked at the way in which the British govt has dealt with covid and are now beginning to laugh at the UK.

Despite living here I am English and will always be so. Like many others I will have to seek French residence now that we have left the EU but I will not be applying for French nationality.

We came here as a project for our retirement. I used to think that we would return to the UK at some point but now, with the state the country is in and the divisions, I'm not sure that I want to.

Can any of you who voted to leave the EU see Britain becoming great again?

I apologise for turning this towards Brexit but I think that some people are wearing blinkers when it comes to the state of the country (and I don't mean the ravages of covid)

Kapitan Tue 02-Jun-20 19:27:02

Yes. Every Labour Prime Minister.

Greta Tue 02-Jun-20 20:20:47

Kapitan : Yes. Every Labour Prime Minister.

Shall we also include every Conservative Prime Minister?

Pantglas2 Tue 02-Jun-20 20:56:12

Why ever not Greta? What’s good for the goose.....

You can’t ask the question in the thread title and then expect every answer to be in agreement- or can you?

Lucca Tue 02-Jun-20 21:26:34

Dinahmo. Excellent post.

growstuff Tue 02-Jun-20 22:25:58

Dinahmo If you speak German Die Tagesschau has been laughing at the UK, and especially Johnson, for months. The programme also laughs at its own government and Merkel. I think it's ironic that a German programme has become so good at satire, which used to be a British strength.

growstuff Tue 02-Jun-20 22:32:33

Johnson has no leadership qualities. He's totally unfitted for his post. He was good at being the upper class twit raconteur on HIGNFY, but he's carried on with that image and been found sadly lacking.

As with so many Conservative leaders, I suspect his own careerist backbenchers will bring him down. He's already beginning to be a liability to the party. Most of the half-decent Conservatives have been hounded out, so I sincerely hope that Starmer and his new team can exploit that.

Kapitan Wed 03-Jun-20 19:16:33

Johnson is one of the best Conservative leaders ever, After Churchill and Thatcher I will concede. I love how he still gets up the noses of defeated remainers.

MissAdventure Wed 03-Jun-20 19:18:05

I'm not sure anyone's nose is safe from him.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 20:39:41

MissA grin

trisher Wed 03-Jun-20 20:51:57

I think it's hilarious when someone tries to stand up for Johnson and has to resort to Brexit to do it. As if the last 12 weeks had never happened!!

Furret Wed 03-Jun-20 21:18:32

I’m doubled over with that post Kapitan - love your sense of humour. Made me laugh for the first time in days. Thank you ?
