Yes, it’s only a statue, but it’s the property of the city.No doubt it will have to be hauled out of the river now at great cost to the council/citizens of Bristol.
The scenes reminded me Iraq, where they pulled down the statue of Saddam Hussein, all the hitting of it with shoes as an insult.I couldn’t quite believe that people in Bristol were actually hitting and jumping on a piece of bronze.Not that the statue cared.I did wonder that if a person they disliked had appeared in their midst just then, if they would have torn him limb from limb. Mobs become like that.
