FarNorth, this happened to my daughter when she visited America. She went with her friend, who just happens to be Asian. At the airport, the white people were waved through, but it was her friend who was singled out to be searched.

If anyone is ever going to be stopped and searched at an airport, it is me, ladymuck, with DH a close second.
He nearly had a gun pulled on him at an American airport.
We are not BAME. A close relative is but I don't think she has ever had any problems.
I am always stopped and patted down, have my luggage searched.

I agree with those who posted that the horrific murder of PC Keith Blakelock was a racist crime.

My friend's son is English/Irish, his father was Persian so Iranian. He runs a very successful business, makes frequent trips to the US and has never once been allowed in without being taken off to be frisked and interviewed

There are still Gurkha Regiments in our Armed Forces today,

I suggest all those opposed to the public disorder and vandalism British cities/towns exposed to over the past few days write to their member of Parliament. The question needing an answer: does the government intend to put a stop to this breakdown in law and order and if so when.

It would seem that the protest movement that rightfully sprang up over the killing of George Floyd has now lost focus. In now condemning persons and acts from the distant past it has divided public opinion on how history should be viewed and treated.

No one can change the attitudes and happenings of past times, but we are all capable of changing public attitudes to many things of today, and through that, what will come about in the future.

Those that have readily joined the protests in regard to the killing of George Floyd now need to find some leadership or there is a real prospect that out of the worldwide revulsion to what we all witnessed on our tv screens, nothing will come about.

No one can change the attitudes and happenings of past times, but we are all capable of changing public attitudes to many things of today, and through that, what will come about in the future.
Perhaps we can't change the past but we can at least ensure that there is more balance in our accounts and more questioning of the accounts we have been given. There seems to be a perception now that people who have had statues erected to them have always been held in some sort of honour and respect by the general populace when in fact they were no such thing. In fact a little research will often reveal problems raising the money for them, arguments about where they should be situated and a general reluctance to build them. If those statues were to go there might be a more balanced view of those people.
It is the rich and powerful who tend to write history and so much revolutionary history and the history of protest has been lost. It is that history we need to recognise and honour. When that happens there is a real chance that these demonstrations will lead to an improvement in society. It isn't about leaders, there are enough of those. It is about listening to people and not burying their concerns in rhetoric and inertia.

Removing a statue of Baden Powell because of fear of riots,

He wasn’t involved in the slave trade, he founded the Boy Scout Movement in 1910 , this movement in world wide and in 1912, with his sister the girl guide movement.

But his statue is on ‘the list’, so has to be removed to a safe place.

Was he perfect ? No. Have millions of young people world wide benefited from the movement? Yes.

I watched a piece about Christopher Columbus last night and to say I felt sick and horrified by what he and his men did is an understatement .We should know that whole countries were wiped of populations,that mothers raped and had their breasts cut off,babies "dashed against the rocks" and many more vile actions .The fallout from Columbus and other like him have led to Native Americans ,Aborigines and Maoris as well as the African slaves descendents STILL being treated disgracefully.
My old granny used to tell us to tell the truth and shame the devil.....its time these devils were shamed ,its time these people who had lives destroyed or enslaved were the ones honoured not the figures on the plinths who hopefully didn't buy their place in "heaven" and rot in some hell

I had a friend from Poland who refused to have anything to do with the scout movement, she hated uniforms, they brought back to her memories of the Hitler Youth Movement. Why do we commemorate right wing men? Where's the statue to the leader of the Woodcraft movement whose members rescued the children of socialist leaders from Germany? Where's the statue to the leader of the Chartist movement?

Anniebach Baden-Powell used a swaztika on one of the Cub Scout badges which has been taken out of context.......it was in fact taken from the front of Rudyard Kiplings book Kim. The swastika is a symbol of peace in India.

Hitler Youth was formed after the Scouting movement.

The Scouting movement has helped millions of children and young people , there are currently in excess of 54 million in the Scouting movement worldwide.

This is getting ridiculous

Any sympathy i had is now gone,after seeing a police officer attacked ,i think no wonder these people are being classed as suspicious,they are actually making things worse for themselves, and spoiling it for others who have done no wrong,it's the gang culture we are seeing
As far as the statues go ,i think its disgusting and towns agreeing to move statues are pandering to them

The statue of Baden Powell is being moved to a safe place because it is on the ‘hit list’, this has caused fear of a riot .

I think back to my scouting days, the jamborees, children of all
nationalities and faiths together.

Having viewed the attack on the male and female police officers, I felt so fearful for the policing in the UK.

If there are many more attacks like this, whatever the race of the individuals we will see armed police patrolling the streets on foot as opposed to being car based at the moment.

And inevitably, arming police will increase the chance of incidents like the one that sparked all this off.

So, the opposite of what was hoped for.

Did school uniforms cause people to think of the Hitler youth
movement ?

The swastika was symbol of peace and divinity in many Eastern religions.

It was used as such by many before Hitler took it over and tainted it for ever.

Just as many are saying we need to learn the facts behind our history, some protestors need to learn the true facts too.

It always comes down to education to use an analogy used by my teacher friends. you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.

If you feel you haven't got enough knowledge on a certain subject, research on the internet go to the library (when they are open again)

Firecracker123 a thug is a thug whatever their skin colour, the same goes for any criminal!

I know when the scout movement was formed I simply pointed out that someone from Poland who had lived through the Nazi occupation was reminded of Hitler Youth. We shouldn't assume that everyone holds the same opinion as we do. I know many like unifoms but some don't.
I know some like Baden Powell but many don't. Why should the opinion of those who approve of him outweigh the voice of those who don't?

1998 - 10 months in prison for armed robbery
2002 - 8 months in prison for cocaine
2004 - 10 months in prison for cocaine
2005 - 10 months in prison for cocaine
2007 - 5 years in prison for armed robbery of a pregnant woman in her home

When he was killed he was high on meth getting ready to drive a car.
