Casting shame on members our police force who are doing the best they can in challenging circumstances is shameful in itself.

Suziewoozie and paddyanne I totally agree about All Lives Matter. People must realise how dismissive that is and it is hard to believe that at least a large proportion of the people who insist on using that phrase whenever BLM is mentioned do it unknowingly.
Why can't people either get on board an issue or decide that it isn't for them. Why do they have to try to undermine it when it is about people trying to have their fears and concerns listened to and dealt with.
This protest has been a long time coming. It is a peaceful protest although large protests always have agitators (they have been caught in the US protest) and people who see it as an opportunity. Those complaining about it have probably complained about Kampernick taking a knee. That was 4, nearly 5, years ago and could not have been a more peaceful protest but no one listened when those methods are tried. How long can people be expected to just accept oppression?

Knee bending certainly doesn’t spread Covid19 but thousands of people thronged together without social distancing or masks certainly does spread Covid19. I thought my darling girl and her husband were becoming safer as the numbers drop but it appears I could well be wrong. For anyone who doesn’t know they are both medics.
You bet I’m cross about these selfish people who care not one jot for any of us.

Normally I would have no problem with people protesting about whatever they wish to protest about, that’s their business, not mine. But I object enormously at this particular time when people are breaking the law to protest. The law is temporarily in force to protect public health and it is being ignored.

Absolutely disgusting, in a Pandemic, what a way to express a view.

Thought that the BBC's news tonight was odd. The reporter said that a policewoman threw herself off her horse??? Which is so odd as online the incident is clearly the result of a bike being thrown at the horse which resulted in the police officer falling off and the terrified horse bolting.

You could be right suziewoozie, a second spike may well have already been triggered by actions prior to today's demonstrations, but I honestly believe that these actions today will not have helped and will likely add to the spikes, and are therefore equally irresponsible. There appeared to be NO social distancing. Their wish to demonstrate is entirely understandable, as the actions resulting the death of George Floyd were truly despicable, but mass gatherings in the present pandemic crisis risk putting us back into a strict lockdown as the R number could well go above 1 as a result of their actions. I, for one, am not happy about that. Are you?

I've just watched a video of the police officer falling from the horse. I can see bikes lying on the ground, but I couldn't see a bike being thrown and I watched it a few times. It's not clear why she fell. Maybe somebody has seen a different video.

PS. I understand she's seriously injured and hope she recovers.

Why was it allowed? No thought for the police or the hospital staff resulting from this protest. For every 400 people there 1 will have Covid, I take it they won’t object to treatment. How does this help anyone? Over 70 and vulnerable been in for 11 weeks, I can’t believe it this was allowed or people thinking aPandemic doesn’t matter.

The Home Secretary could have stopped it. I wouldn't mind betting she had a very good idea what would happen. It's a good opportunity to "blame" people and I'm afraid the people who caused the violence fell into the trap.

I only hope this doesn't distract from a thorough investigation by PHE and the Equalities Minister into BAME deaths caused by COVID.

PS. Other people are saying bricks were thrown, not a bike. I'm not excusing brick throwing, but I just wanted to get the facts straight.
