Meghan's Speech

I would have applauded this speech had Meghan been an A list celebrity in her own right and not used her marriage to a member of the RF as a leg up on to the platform she now occupies.

Now she's back in LA where she always wanted to be, she's in the thick of massive racist issues involving violent demonstrations. It seems it was ever thus in the USA.

I couldn't help thinking back to her self pitying comments about racism in the UK. Now we're caught up in the turmoil caused by an act of racist violence in her own country where she fled to 'escape' her unfair treatment over here. hmm

EllanVannin So isn't hatred and anger what is behind people being mistreated, discriminated against and murdered because of their colour - how else would such phenomena be described other than racism? Your comment is so 1984 it is beyond belief. Perhaps we should re-name it "tough love"?- or just pretend that it doesn't exist at all.

I thought what MM said came across as sincere and powerful. But, of course, there are those who just hate her and will criticise everything she does. She is actually very well known in the US where she was a high profile and well paid actress. I hardly think she needs Harry to boost her popularity. I don't dislike Harry but he has had a very privileged lifestyle and education whereas she has made it on her own - and didn't need to marry a royal to forge a very successful career.

The case of Justine Damon - a white woman shot dead by a black policeman - is hardly a commonplace occurrence. Trying to use this very unusual case to minimise the wanton brutality and disregard for life exhibited in the George Lucas case (and many other similar cases) is a very predictable - and well used - tactic. In any event, reports state that the vigil which was held following Justine Damon's death was actually organised by a black woman - and the protests that followed were attended by black as well as white people.

Notice though that her alleged use of the word " racism " was used as an excuse ? As the word very often is which is why I don't like it because it's always said out of context.

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 16:10:34

Perhaps if she hadnt't taken, and is still taking her in laws and the rest of the RF particularly our elderly Queen for a complete ride after they showed her every kindness, and gave her everything she wanted, perhaps if she hadn't referred to them as toxic and us as racists and apparently had to flee Briton for those reasons, people like me would still admire, respect and even feel affection for both her and he husband. Instead we feel deep disappointed at a seemingly lovely dedicated, popular couple who could have done so much good both abroad and here, but instead chose to live in tinsel town in order to make mega bucks and turn their backs on the rest of us! Oh, and we'd like our money back in full not in dribs and drabs ! It is she, who has in order to leave, made herself thoroughly dislikeable and it's worked!

You didn’t invent it ?? You said it. And what has it got to do with her speech yesterday ? Just more re hashing of the same old stuff, Diana also being brought in again by some. Sorry to say this but a lot of this is out and out b*tchiness.

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 15:48:37

Meghan should be able to deliver speeches anyway, she's an actress and used to being recognised. It's what she does best.

I liked Obama as president and also his wife Michelle as both had a calming influence----better than the present one. Both good at speaking.

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 15:42:40

The word racism/racist should be banned. It's a horrible word which conjures up hatred and anger. There's no need to use it at all.
The word has been taken to the extreme to incite trouble.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 15:42:20

As often as I choose to Oldwoman ,

EllanVannin Thu 04-Jun-20 15:34:50

The black American living in London gave the best view on BBC this morning.

Chewbacca Thu 04-Jun-20 15:11:37

Of course there is no racism on GN much like there is no sexism in gentlemen's clubs (which is an expression now used for strip clubs).

Having never frequented either establishment trisher, we'll have to rely on your expertise I'm afraid.

yorkie20 Thu 04-Jun-20 15:06:20

Personally I dont care what colour anyone is.
I havnt seen Megan's 'speech' because why would I be interested in her opinion just like why would I be interested in any other so called 'star' 'celebrity' persons opinion about racism or anything else.
Maybe its me being unfair but the only 'opinion' that matters to me is my own.

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 14:52:04

I didn't invent it! It has been said by plenty of people other than me! It was meant to be in quotes, but I see they didn't come out! Are we seriously saying that there was no one who could have escorted her down the aisle in the absence of her father. If she was happy with doing it alone why wasn't PC who gallantly stepped into the breech, not informed? I think he would have been as these things are usually arranged beforehand and not left to chance particularly in the RF. Oh well, it made a bit of a drama!!

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 14:30:01

Jabberwok “When poor me etc etc”. That’snothing to do with the thread sorry but it’s just a thoroughly nasty remark

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 14:07:47

So Prince Charles is a racist too! Have we proof of this? He seemed to treat this particular lady with extreme courtesy when poor me was left to walk up the aisle on her own!

trisher Thu 04-Jun-20 14:01:40

Cross threads Annie Not permitted on GN!!

Oldwoman70 Thu 04-Jun-20 13:44:20

Anniebach how often are you going to trot out that interview - we get it - you don't like her!

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 13:41:49

trisher who are the peasants and where do they live ?

Rosalyn69 Thu 04-Jun-20 13:39:39

See a bandwagon, jump on it and channel Diana for dewy eyed sincerity.

trisher Thu 04-Jun-20 13:39:22

Because of course Prince Charles knows everything about racism.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 13:38:28

The Megan who went on a state visit to S.A. Then gave an
interview, not about the problems there but how hard her life
was in the U.K. few asked her if she was ok, and she didn’t have
‘The British stiff upper lip ‘, ?

Jabberwok Thu 04-Jun-20 13:34:50

That's our Meghan! Always upstaging her in laws! Even one who pays for her extortionately expensive life style! Never misses a trick!!

Jane10 Thu 04-Jun-20 13:32:50

Meghan who?

merlotgran Thu 04-Jun-20 13:28:50

Meghan is an American citizen who probably wouldn't have had any appeal had she not married Prince Harry.

She might have been invited to talk at her old school because of her role in Suits but I doubt it would it have been headline News.

The article about Prince Charles' interview with Sky News has been completely overlooked.

Timing?

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 13:25:38

trisher still believes there are peasants in this country, i
would like to know who they are , where they are

eazybee Thu 04-Jun-20 13:14:46

MM is not, in this instance, trading on her position through her marriage.

She is now in her own country, as an American citizen, speaking about issues which concern her and of which she has some knowledge and experience, and she did have, I believe, a reputation as a campaigner about Rights, (which particular ones, I don't know,) before she married.

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 13:08:33

Puzzler. Well said.
