Meghan's Speech

I would have applauded this speech had Meghan been an A list celebrity in her own right and not used her marriage to a member of the RF as a leg up on to the platform she now occupies.

Now she's back in LA where she always wanted to be, she's in the thick of massive racist issues involving violent demonstrations. It seems it was ever thus in the USA.

I couldn't help thinking back to her self pitying comments about racism in the UK. Now we're caught up in the turmoil caused by an act of racist violence in her own country where she fled to 'escape' her unfair treatment over here. hmm

Doubt that she'd be damned for keeping quiet for once Granny23.

Granny23 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:48:45

Megan would be damned if she did speak out and damned if she did not.

MaizieD Thu 04-Jun-20 10:46:18

But I assume this is just a “starter for ten”.....pages of rants about Harry and Meghan.

You should have run a book on it, Lucca grin

Always defending Megan trisher ?

The confusion about Meghan Markle amuses me. She is sometimes called a minor actress, sometimes an A list celebrity, accused of marrying for social status, criticised for chucking that very status and now apparently shouldn't speak out about racism in the US because she spoke about it in the UK.
Try bringing a little objectivity to your posts Gransnetters. It's getting really silly.
No reason she shouldn't speak ou about racism and her personal experience of it here or anywhere.

timetogo2016 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:27:24

Spot on Chewbacca.
Me me me me me me MEGAN.

almostelderly Thu 04-Jun-20 10:25:35

The speech once again was all about Meghan and her sincerity shone through. She was an actress after all. Meghan has now become an expert on racism, her elephant phase must be over. I wish the woman would cease embracing the publicity she despises and disappear.

Justine Damond wasn’t ‘a woman of colour’ .

RIP

Callistemon Thu 04-Jun-20 10:17:54

I'd like to say that Justine Damond's life mattered too.

RIP Justine

Feminine solidarity? This hasn’t been asked for on the thread about the Queen

25Avalon Thu 04-Jun-20 10:13:29

Although not having much sympathy if any for Meghan to be fair she is half black, is well known, and her mother who is black suffered from racism. If she did not speak out by herself I think Meghan would have been asked for her support. Plus if she hadn’t said anything where would that have left her, particularly when she is looking for A actress status. I do not believe her claims regarding her time in the UK.

sarahellenwhitney Thu 04-Jun-20 10:09:33

Meghan is about Meghan. What else can we expect.

Magsymoo Thu 04-Jun-20 10:06:44

Here we go again. Let's bash Meghan! Every time she opens her mouth out comes the usual stuff on this site. How about a bit of feminine solidarity?

Pantglas2 Thu 04-Jun-20 10:06:01

I tend to vote with my feet on most things and never sign petitions, whether to ban American dodgy food or supporting any one part of society. I don’t need to be part of a gang to do the right thing.

I think Meghan would have been better doing a joint thing with Harry and more people would have listened.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 09:59:02

I will not sign it , it isn’t true, she did not receive lousy treatment in this country , she was criticised as all members of
the family she married into are criticised

Grany Thu 04-Jun-20 09:58:47

It was a good speech Good for her.

Lucca Thu 04-Jun-20 09:58:04

Merlot I’m confused ! You think it’s good she spoke up or you don’t ?

Chewbacca Thu 04-Jun-20 09:54:29

It wasn't a speech designed to set the world back on its axis was it? It was, in the main, about her. Again.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:54:29

Can’t see many on this or other Markle threads signing it??

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:53:56

There’s a petition by change.org being signed that recognises and abhors the lousy treatment Markle received in the U.K.

merlotgran Thu 04-Jun-20 09:49:11

Well it's good in her position that she does speak up.

Yes!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 04-Jun-20 09:47:46

You know that thing about racism.......

None so blind as cannot see.

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 09:45:22

An ex tv actress ?

Orangerose Thu 04-Jun-20 09:44:07

What position? She doesn’t have one. ?

Anniebach Thu 04-Jun-20 09:43:50

What is ‘her position’ Grany ?
