I didn't realise she was starring in a blockbuster. I wonder how Harry feels about his wedding day now?

Reading down the list of expenditure I was struck by £90,000 being spent on silver plated trumpets to announce the event!

Only silver plated?? grin

|Just a few quick comments on Lady C's book which I have now finished.
It is so badly written that it is almost unreadable. It is full of padding and stuff about her own family. Very few new facts about M&H but a lot of her own theories. Honestly, I plodded through it but was glad to get to the end. At the end I knew no more about them than I did at the beginning.
From my point of view it was a waste of money.

Well the Royals are doing ok anyway

money & monarchy

Royal Flush
The royal family has more than doubled its income in the past 12 years, and is expecting a windfall of half a billion. Yet tensions in the family over money remain

Thanks, Framilode. I won't bother then.

Callistemon Thu 02-Jul-20 20:08:23

trisher

Callistemon you are! You have to get the Brasso or Silvo out and apply elbow grease. Maintenance can cost a fortune. Ex husband played the saxophone.

I hope he polished it himself!

DD plays woodwind, thank goodness.
Not as much polishing.

trisher Thu 02-Jul-20 20:19:46

Callistemon he did. I wasn't allowed to touch it unless supervised! (thank goodness)

lemongrove Thu 02-Jul-20 21:16:39

Callistemon

I could play the recorder ...
and the piano (badly now)
But don't ask me to sing

Same here, and with the piano....all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.?

Chewbacca Thu 02-Jul-20 21:26:45

I have a mental image of Meghan sat with an abacus, counting stacks of 10p pieces; 1 million, 2 million, 3 million.....

lemongrove Thu 02-Jul-20 21:38:21

......or selling bits of Harry’s beard, £1,000 for some real royal whiskers! I bet there would be lots of buyers.

Singing for their supper ( after dinner talks) is supposed to be their new way of life from now on, did Harry ever really imagine it would come to that?

Anniebach Thu 02-Jul-20 21:59:19

I think Harry is happy with his new life in America, as the only
royal living there no 4th place for him, he doesn’t have to stand in line, he is the centre of attention

merlotgran Thu 02-Jul-20 22:24:43

But will it last, Anniebach?

Their plans have had one knock after another. They didn't get as much out of Megxit as they wanted because the Queen, PC and PW dug their heels in.

They couldn't have anticipated coronavirus any more than the rest of us and without all their wealthy connections where on earth would they be now?

Harry has no job and Meghan, in her Meghanness, will be exploiting any and every opportunity to up their profile.

What will happen when all those who have shelled out on their behalf start to call in some favours? Harry is a fish out of water. The fickle world of celebrity will soon tire of him.

Coronavirus has been a great leveller. I don't doubt that Harry was distraught when he heard his father had tested positive. Unlike Meghan, I think his family bonds will remain stronger than she thinks.

They talk the big talk about their charity foundation, The Archewell brand and a life of philanthropy but since when has philanthropy meant giving away other people's money?

annep1 Thu 02-Jul-20 22:35:37

Sorry off topic but Anniebach

In case you are interested, my daughter bought me this. It holds my kindle or magazine in bed.

Are MM’s legal team desperate? Stating how badly she felt she was treated by the RF is a bit dim and not really relevant.

Who is going to pay their legal fees if Charles decides that enough is enough and puts his wallet away? Perhaps they feel the international publicity is payment enough.

MM has also fallen out with her main bestie over BAME, so no telling what might be said if she is called as a witness, which is apparently a possibility.

Sussexborn Thu 02-Jul-20 23:37:32

P.S. I have a didgeridoo in the loft that’s looking for a new home. Perhaps it might help to have it silver plated?

welbeck Fri 03-Jul-20 00:05:56

i actually assumed this was something to do with hairdressers opening or not.

welbeck Fri 03-Jul-20 00:10:57

apparently they were going to call it Archway.
perhaps somebody pointed out that Archway is now known as Highgate Slopes.

SueDonim Fri 03-Jul-20 01:06:03

I wonder if they are aware of the meaning of the word ‘arch‘ as an adjective?

MawB Fri 03-Jul-20 09:06:26

Is she just trying to cause trouble?
In today’s DT

Next month, a biography of the Duke and Duchess promises to tell the “epic and true” story of the couple, “finally revealing why they chose to pursue a more independent path and the reasons behind their unprecedented decision to step away from their royal lives”

‘It was the institutional process and culture, the operational behaviour, that let her down. It is not targeted at individuals in the [Royal] family’
Entitled Finding Freedom, it has been predicted to make uncomfortable reading inside the palace, published in mid-August when the Royal family are traditionally on a summer break and the Queen at Balmoral

She has got her man, got her baby, got publicity that millions of $$$ couldn’t buy, got her “freedom” , got her future “career” sorted, what more does she want?
For somebody who spent a remarkably short time as a member of the RF she leaves a trail of devastation in her wake.

Chewbacca Fri 03-Jul-20 09:13:35

Don't think we're going to be able to forget her anytime soon Maw. I seem to remember that the RF "disliked" Diana for the way she courted publicity. She was a shrinking violet in comparison to Meghan, so heaven knows what they think now.

merlotgran Fri 03-Jul-20 09:43:21

Thanks, Sussexborn, I now have a mental image of Meghan, in all her finery, entering St. George's Chapel to a fanfare played on a silver plated didgeridoo. grin

www.dailymail.co.uk/columnists/article-8485159/Check-privilege-Harry-lecturing-McMansion-writes-JAN-MOIR.html

Very good article by Jan Moir. Just about sums up all that we've said on here.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 03-Jul-20 09:45:51

Andrews behaviour makes the Sussex’s
seem positively benign!

Am I wrong in assuming the Daily Mail has an agenda?

Sparklefizz Fri 03-Jul-20 09:48:12

merlotgran Yes, I read that article this morning and enjoyed it. She is completely right.

Anniebach Fri 03-Jul-20 09:58:14

Thank you merlot for the link, very good article, I got rather
nostalgic thinking of the Kennedys

maddyone Fri 03-Jul-20 10:49:11

Thanks merlot for the link. Very interesting. To my mind it was a very bad day for the royals when Meghan arrived into their midst.

merlotgran Fri 03-Jul-20 10:49:55

I'm baffled by Meghan's claims that the RF didn't protect her against stories in the press that angered her but were true. She was prevented from defending herself but that would have been a wise move by the palace.

Left to her own devices she's a loose cannon and has a knack of whipping Harry up into outspoken indignation on her behalf as well as digging a hole for herself which is deepening

The court case against the Mail will not end happily for either of them.
