I didn't realise she was starring in a blockbuster. I wonder how Harry feels about his wedding day now?

Reading down the list of expenditure I was struck by £90,000 being spent on silver plated trumpets to announce the event!

Only silver plated?? grin

I know.

Jabberwok Thu 02-Jul-20 18:41:13

Edward V111th abdicated, not V11th-sorry!

trisher Thu 02-Jul-20 17:52:33

Callistemon you are! You have to get the Brasso or Silvo out and apply elbow grease. Maintenance can cost a fortune. Ex husband played the saxophone.

The other book that came out at the same time, 'Royals at War,' by Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett, has been panned for sloppy research.

The Queen is referred to as Her Royal Highness and they talk about Edward VII's abdication. hmm

Oh dear!

Musical instruments including trumpets and saxophones need re-plating from time to time when the plating begins to wear because of polishing. It's part of a regular service and maintenance.

You're suppose to polish them?
shock

Thank goodness I was never any good at trumpet playing

trisher Thu 02-Jul-20 17:47:03

It's quite simple really. If you have your instrument serviced re-plating is part of that. It's done to all brass instruments www.mcqueens.com/brass_repairs.htm

I think the Queen compromised over the trumpets, Pamela.

'OK, you can have silver plated trumpets but I can smell a scented candle a mile off so don't even think about it!' grin

PamelaJ1 Thu 02-Jul-20 17:18:51

I am very puzzled by the fact that it appears that we didn’t have a stock of silver plated trumpets ready to be used.

How have we managed without them for centuries???‍♀️

Anniebach Thu 02-Jul-20 17:14:54

I will Namnanny but will take some time, it’s on my iPad which I can’t hold for long periods.

Jabberwok Thu 02-Jul-20 17:14:26

Whatever happened to the peaceful low key life that apparently these two craved?!! Everyday there they are moaning about some perceived ill that either 'we or the RF perpetrated on this tedious couple! MM wants to get her facts right about who earns what and how? Poor dim Harry? well, perhaps he never knew any of it in the first place!! As for wedding! Well, perhaps the money accrued could be set against the security, we paid for and the refurbishment of their home, now not needed!
Sorry, I just think they're beyond awful!

Sparklefizz Thu 02-Jul-20 17:08:01

Apparently there's going to be a documentary about Princess Anne soon because she will be 70 this year.

Will you give it a review on the book forum when you've finished it Anniebach?

Anniebach Thu 02-Jul-20 16:54:21

Have started it merlot, Lady C started with Meg’s schooling
an home life. No bitching, I was amused when she said how
Harry had become an Alpha Male when he married.

merlotgran Thu 02-Jul-20 16:44:35

Have you read the book yet, Annie?

Namsnanny Thu 02-Jul-20 16:38:40

Thank you maddyone for your lovely reply, and as for your thoughts on the H&M problem, I couldn't have said better myself!

Have a good day smile

Namsnanny Thu 02-Jul-20 16:29:12

12.31 sparklefizz ... Thanks, memory can fail!
Yes PA is a one off, not just in the RF but in any walk of life, I think!

13.31 Alexa ... Me too.

''You knows everyfink Brian Callistemon!'' smile

She lacks dignity

Judy54 Thu 02-Jul-20 16:15:16

How amazing that this made front page news at a time when we are still dealing with covid 19, innocent people have been killed in Reading and Glasgow and there are mass demonstrations across the World. There are many more newsworthy stories than what former Royals are doing. As I have said on here before, I wish them well for the future but I have no desire to hear about their lives.

BibiSarah Thu 02-Jul-20 16:08:42

‘Beatrice and Eugenie are paid to work ‘ ,

MM seemed to forget that they’re not on the civil list and the mention of them along with Princess Michael of Kent smacked of desperation.

In fact I’m still laughing at the depth she sank to in order to fling mud. Princess Michael of Kent? ?

SueDonim Thu 02-Jul-20 15:55:11

Wouldn’t the expenditure and any profit from the wedding have been about the same whoever Harry had married? It wasn’t Meghan that made it star-billing. If she’d married an ordinary US citizen, we’d never have heard of her marriage!

maddyone Thu 02-Jul-20 15:54:43

I had big hopes for H+M at the beginning, like many others. How easily we were fooled by the actress.

maddyone Thu 02-Jul-20 15:52:09

Smileless
I think she’s trying to manipulate public opinions by releasing favourable information.

maddyone Thu 02-Jul-20 15:50:53

Namsnanny
Thank you so much, but there’s no need to apologise. I wasn’t offended, just resolute in my opinion, but we are all entitled to our opinions, however sometimes on the Meghan threads people’s opinions are not accepted as that, just opinions. So sorry if I jumped on you. Didn’t really mean to. I shall engage my my brain before posting next time. smile
The truth is that I don’t really like Meghan, in so much as you can not like a person you’ve never met. I really mean I don’t like the things she is alleged to have done and said. There are now so many stories constantly emerging about her, so many ‘friends’ have leaked stories about her, and the latest is that she’s apparently yet again trying to manipulate public opinion by saying look at all the money my wedding brought in for you. William and Catherine are so much more dignified in my opinion, and given that we have royalty (there are legitimate arguments for not having a royal family) then I feel royal behaviour should be dignified.

I could play the recorder ...
and the piano (badly now)
But don't ask me to sing
