The FBI has arrested British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, an ex-girlfriend of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
She was reportedly arrested in New Hampshire on charges related to Epstein and is due in federal court later.
She has apparently denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein's alleged sexual misconduct.
Epstein died in prison on 10 August as he awaited, without the chance of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.
He was arrested last year in New York following allegations that he was running a network of underage girls - some as young as 14 - for sex. His death was determined to be suicide.

Well, I wonder if this “plot is thickening” ?

Ticking if you feel so strongly why not report it and have done.

Callico - are the italics supposed to have meaning?? What was it you said about defending the indefensible??

Good for you, Tickingbird, for pursuing this.

Too many unsubstantiated and inaccurate accusations on Gransnet are allowed to go unchallenged, and the intention is to intimidate; some posters admit they won't post on the political threads because of the aggressive replies they receive.

Congratulations on totally derailing a thread. Could you either report it or ignore it, and could the applauding audience stay out of it? It's not a performance and it doesn't need cheerleaders bouncing about on the sidelines.

Apologies to the OP, MawB.
The thread has become more about one poster than the subject.

Just ask GN to delete whichever post it was. Please.

Your original post and others by myself highlighting it have been deleted. Maybe in future stick to what’s been posted and not what you’ve dreamt up.

Calling somebody a rude name because you don’t agree with what they say happens too often on here and puts people off posting. Can we now get back to the original op and discuss it in a sensible and reasonable manner please?

GM knew the police were after her and yet she deliberately disappeared instead of stepping forward to help. Is this because she doesn’t want to tell but surely knew they would find her sooner or later or was she scared someone else was after her to silence her as has been suggested Epstein was?

Bit of both I expect, you do wonder who these people are though.

Given the way the USA government acted by preventing evidence coming out during Epstein’s first arrest, they must be somewhere on the list and very powerful.

It’s like a film.

25Avalon Mon 06-Jul-20 14:42:09

The best way to protect herself is surely to spill the beans and quickly? I’m assuming of course she has beans to spill.

GillT57 Mon 06-Jul-20 14:50:48

Maybe GM was being hidden, rather than hiding? There are a few powerful people who must be feeling rather uncomfortable right now. One thing is for sure, if this gets to trial, we are in for a very uncomfortable watch as the victim blaming begins.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jul-20 14:51:07

She is the beans??

What wouldn’t surprise me is that even if she does list everyone involved, it will be suppressed, just as it was before. I think there are an enormous amount of reputations and other stuff that they won’t want to come out. Don’t forget Epstein was not just involved with trafficking and sex he was also involved in fraudulent deals which included other big names.

To save me reading the thread again, WW, what was the title of the Netflix programme?

Filthy Rich - Epstein. Actually I wouldn’t mind watching it again as I’m sure I missed stuff, but highly recommended.

We've had to delete a number of posts on this thread, so we just wanted to remind users to please refrain from personal attacks against other posters.

As in real life, users won't always agree but please do keep the discussion civil as, if the thread continues in this direction, we may have to pull it.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jul-20 15:10:27

No!! Don’t pull it. There is some good stuff on here and we’d have to start again as this saga is likely to run and run if the FBI take it to court.

Just zap the personal stuff, that’s all you need to do.

GillT57 Mon 06-Jul-20 15:31:16

Thanks WWMk2, I will look out for it. Especially interesting with the Maxwell arrest.

25Avalon Mon 06-Jul-20 17:26:54

Everything on here ok since my post at 14:17 with sensible discussion following so no reason to pull the thread. Please don’t.

Iam64 Mon 06-Jul-20 18:38:32

Don't pull the thread GNHQ - this is a good discussion.

I am beginning to wonder if there is a campaign in some quarters to sabotage threads I start.
Last week, a perfectly reasonable topic for discussion was stymied by some appalling racist comments and it looks as if this thread could be in danger too.

Is it even safe to start a thread about Fluffy Kittens?

Lucca Mon 06-Jul-20 19:00:24

Depends whether said fluffy kittens are owned by Meghan and Harry ......

Lucca Mon 06-Jul-20 19:02:55

But going back to the original question i too watched the “filthy rich” programme on Netflix. Quite sickening. Left me in no doubt about GM involvement.
By the way it is worth pointing out that contrary to the opinion of some posters not everything on Netflix is rubbish !

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jul-20 19:06:21

lucca I’m glad someone else has watched it.

I think it leaves you in no doubt over the trafficking, exploitation and corruption involved.

My question is whether it will ever be brought to court.
