The FBI has arrested British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, an ex-girlfriend of the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
She was reportedly arrested in New Hampshire on charges related to Epstein and is due in federal court later.
She has apparently denied any involvement in or knowledge of Epstein's alleged sexual misconduct.
Epstein died in prison on 10 August as he awaited, without the chance of bail, his trial on sex trafficking charges.
He was arrested last year in New York following allegations that he was running a network of underage girls - some as young as 14 - for sex. His death was determined to be suicide.

Well, I wonder if this “plot is thickening” ?

grin
No it doesn't.

Callistemon

Apparently she wrapped her mobile phone in tinfoil in an effort to stop it being tracked.

Don’t try this at home kids - it clearly doesn’t work!

Chewbacca, I read that Anne Secolas is employed by the CIA. I wonder if that added to the special treatment and refusal by the Potus to tell this woman to return to the UK and cooperate with an investigation.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 21:19:00

No she wasn't Annie, and imo, she certainly should have been forced to come back and face justice. But she is the wife of a diplomat and so was covered by his diplomatic immunity. The RF are not diplomats and so, apparently, have no such immunity. I've only just discovered this today and was surprised tbh.

The American woman who drove on the wrong side of the road in England didn’t have to come to England to be questioned .

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 19:38:26

HRH is going to be between a rock and a hard place on this.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jul-20 19:29:34

Snap, except yours is a better answer than mine

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jul-20 19:29:05

Just googled it. They haven’t. The Queen as something called sovereign immunity whatever that arcane rule is, but no one else.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 19:27:31

A quick Google.....

The Royal Family are not diplomats, so they don't have diplomatic immunity. ... So that's almost as good as diplomatic immunity. As for her Majesty the Queen, all law flows from her in any Commonwealth realms. So she's immune to prosecution because she IS the prosecution.

However

The monarch is immune from arrest in all cases; members of the royal household are immune from arrest in civil proceedings. No arrest can be made "in the monarch's presence", or within the "verges" of a royal palace.

Says nothing about criminal proceedings but then PA is probably setting a precedent.

Yes, me too, which is why I'm not sure about the veracity of SKY.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jul-20 19:20:47

I don’t know why, but I assumed the RF had diplomatic immunity.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 19:18:04

I don't know how reliable SKY News is, but I've found this:

Karen Todner, who dealt with attempts to extradite computer hacker Gary McKinnon and alleged hacker Lauri Love to the US, told Sky News an MLA makes it virtually impossible for the UK government and Home Office to avoid the ongoing battle with Prince Andrew and they will inevitably be involved.

Home office guidelines say the department will not confirm or deny the existance of an MLA.

She said: "From my understanding the Americans are not happy about Prince Andrew giving
a prepared statement, that's not what they want from him, they want to have the opportunity to ask him questions and for him to be under oath when he does that.
She added: "Prince Andrew doesn't have diplomatic immunity so if the process has started it will follow through. There are various reasons that the UK authorities would have to look at to show that the mutual legal assistance request was valid, that it was asked for the right reasons, but I can't see any issues with that at the moment."

Asked how long that process may take, Ms Todner said: "I think it'll certainly be resolved within the next six months or so, if his legal team decide to judicially review the issuing of the mutual legal assistance request that in itself can take anything up to a year.

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 19:13:48

No, I agree WW; it's highly unlikely. But that, in itself, would speak volumes wouldn't it?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jul-20 19:12:28

There is no way this government will say Windsor should give evidence

Chewbacca Tue 14-Jul-20 19:10:35

If she's going to be kept incarcerated for 12 months, I think she'll be so desperate to do anything to lessen her time in jail, that she'll sing like a canary about who else was involved. I think I saw something in the news yesterday, that the US lawyers on the case are expecting the UK government to make the decision as to whether PA will be required to attend to give information. Apparently a Mutual Legal Assistance request has already been submitted.

Callistemon Tue 14-Jul-20 19:10:24

Apparently she wrapped her mobile phone in tinfoil in an effort to stop it being tracked.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Jul-20 19:02:08

Trial due to start July 2021.

Maxwell asking for bail, pleaded not guilty. but prosecution are saying that she is a severe escape risk and her manner of arrest showed this as she tried to escape from the FBI. She certainly didn’t give up quietly.

Poor Queen.

Google March the 5th 2013. International arrest warrent.
Royal families through centuries are rarely innocent of knowledge.

Lucca - love your reflection on whether if MawB started a thread on fluffy kittens...

I watched the Netflix Filthy Rich documentary as well. You're right it was sickening and leaves little (if any) doubt that GM was in it up to her neck.
It was an excellent, well researched programme that exposed the corruption in the initial investigation and imprisonment of Epstein. We can only hope the FBI is determined its own investigation is beyond reproach

Whitewavemark2 Mon 06-Jul-20 19:06:21

lucca I’m glad someone else has watched it.

I think it leaves you in no doubt over the trafficking, exploitation and corruption involved.

My question is whether it will ever be brought to court.

Lucca Mon 06-Jul-20 19:02:55

But going back to the original question i too watched the “filthy rich” programme on Netflix. Quite sickening. Left me in no doubt about GM involvement.
By the way it is worth pointing out that contrary to the opinion of some posters not everything on Netflix is rubbish !

Lucca Mon 06-Jul-20 19:00:24

Depends whether said fluffy kittens are owned by Meghan and Harry ......

We've had to delete a number of posts on this thread, so we just wanted to remind users to please refrain from personal attacks against other posters.

As in real life, users won't always agree but please do keep the discussion civil as, if the thread continues in this direction, we may have to pull it.

I am beginning to wonder if there is a campaign in some quarters to sabotage threads I start.
Last week, a perfectly reasonable topic for discussion was stymied by some appalling racist comments and it looks as if this thread could be in danger too.

Is it even safe to start a thread about Fluffy Kittens?

Iam64 Mon 06-Jul-20 18:38:32

Don't pull the thread GNHQ - this is a good discussion.

25Avalon Mon 06-Jul-20 17:26:54

Everything on here ok since my post at 14:17 with sensible discussion following so no reason to pull the thread. Please don’t.
