Anyone else think Boris is still ill?

Many people who have suffered Covid-19 badly are going on to suffer ME/CFS. I am an ME sufferer myself, and mine developed from a nasty virus 30 years ago. My husband and I both caught it - he got better and I never did.

Anyway ..... looking at Boris slumped next to Rishi Sunak yesterday - well, I thought Boris looked shattered, haggard and unwell, whereas Rishi looked full of vigour. Boris has returned to work because he has had to, but it's my opinion he is still far from well.

Anyone agree (whether you approve of him or not?)

brigid18 Thu 09-Jul-20 12:59:31

Totally agree

But there were people that were warning that a pandemic was expected. Operation Cygnet (?) warned us of it. The government did not take it seriously.

BJ certainly is looking haggard it’s partly because of the illness but also because of the enormity of Covid 19 on top of Brexit.
Both issues that he cannot win, he was a very flaky politician before, now it’s really a struggle to keep a brave face at all.

Sunak is the only one that looks confident in what he is doing the rest are playing catch-up as well. When BJ resigns, he will use illness as the reason no doubt, in reality he can’t stand the pressure. I would not want to choose a replacement PM from the current crop, he will use illness as the reason no doubt, in reality he can’t stand the pressure.

I saw footage of him in the hospital,

Where did you see that, maddyone?

I don't recall seeing any at the time.

As Cummings is running the whole show I expect whether or not Johnson is well enough is completely irrelevant.

I say keep him in post as long as possible though, he's doing a splendid job of killing off lots of his voters and p*ssing off a whole load more.

and anyone who tells me off for 'not nice' sentiments gets reported for derailing the thread and making personal comments

suziewoozie Thu 09-Jul-20 12:04:23

If he is still ill, you’d think he’d take the continuing rates of infection more seriously wouldn’t you?

Calendargirl Thu 09-Jul-20 12:00:46

Dinahmo.

No,I don’t suppose he did expect being PM would turn out the way it has.

He could hardly have visualised a global pandemic, and neither could anyone else.

Bet Theresa May, David Cameron, Tony Blair et al are all thanking their lucky stars it didn’t happen on their watch.

Chewbacca Thu 09-Jul-20 12:00:31

I'm not sure we would get rid of Cummings if BoJo was to resign. I think BoJo is probably the best of a bad lot.

Dinahmo Thu 09-Jul-20 11:53:56

Personally I think he should resign through ill health. That way we'd get rid of Cummings too. I suspect that being PM has not turned out as he expected.

He looks poorly to me. He’s lost a bit of his “gung-ho”

maddyone Thu 09-Jul-20 11:48:36

No one can fake being in hospital on oxygen. I saw footage of him in the hospital, and hospital staff would not allow things to be faked in that way in the middle of a pandemic. He was ill, he’s over the acute stage, but he doesn’t look or sound fully well yet. I hope he makes a full recovery, along with the same hope for anyone else who’s finding it difficult to completely recover after suffering this virus.

varian Thu 09-Jul-20 11:45:39

I don't think that he lied about being ill. It is one of the very few true things he's ever said.

PernillaVanilla Thu 09-Jul-20 11:39:46

He doesn't seem to have lost any weight and looks very poorly.

Calendargirl Thu 09-Jul-20 11:39:45

He has lost weight, although still too heavy I suppose.

I thought the way he kept moving his leg while Rishi spoke looked strange, Whether it was nerves I don’t know.

I’m sure he is still not well, although it has been suggested on GN before now that he’s been faking it all along.

Ridiculous and unkind.

I showed my DH a photo of Johnson yesterday, and asked DH “who is this”

His reply “Stanley Johnson”

Johnson has aged terribly. C19 is a bugger of a disease.

Completely agree. He looks very unwell still.

maddyone Thu 09-Jul-20 11:34:07

I think he doesn’t look particularly well. Obviously he’s over the acute stage, but this virus affects some people badly for a long time after apparent recovery. He’s male, overweight, no longer fit ( he used to run and cycle some years ago) and he has a new baby as well, so possibly disturbed nights. Does he have any underlying conditions? We don’t know obviously as that is private information, although we did know Theresa May had diabetes type 1.
Despite all this, I hope he manages to get a relaxing holiday this summer. Maybe a couple of weeks at Chequers would be a good prescription for him. I’m not sure that a holiday abroad with all the attendant stresses would be particularly good for him.
I hope he looks a bit better by the Autumn.

Katek Thu 09-Jul-20 11:26:51

It’s having a new baby in your 50’s!

ExD Thu 09-Jul-20 11:12:49

I've thought the same for some time too - also the P of Wales looks fragile. But Boris has lost his bounce and I think its wrecked his career, and you have to feel sorry for him poor man, whatever your personal political views. He looks worn out.

glammanana Thu 09-Jul-20 11:06:51

I was expecting to find BJ had fallen asleep yesterday when sitting near RS he looked rather poorly to say the least.

FarNorth Thu 09-Jul-20 11:03:29

It's completely ridiculous that he's pretending all is fine, if he's still ill.

And even more ridiculous if the UK is being run by a backroom jerk whom nobody elected, while Johnson makes himself more ill by appearing in public talking rubbish.

EllanVannin Thu 09-Jul-20 10:59:29

You don't see him cycling around now so he's probably not up to it.

EllanVannin Thu 09-Jul-20 10:58:15

Boris is unfit--he's too heavy, fat.

Elderflower2 Thu 09-Jul-20 10:56:10

Boris has always looked unwell to me, pale and clammy.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-Jul-20 10:51:44

The scientists are discovering predisposing factors with C-19 as time goes on, as there are with any illness - diabetes, heart disease etc.

In my case of M.E., my predisposing factors were a huge amount of longterm stress ongoing for 10 years (husband an alcoholic, then very messy divorce), I was very run down, caught a lot of infections and had loads of antibiotics. Then 3 house moves in 3 years, caught a nasty virus and wham !!! Was bedridden for 2 years until someone in the local M.E. Link Group recommended a naturopath, and from then on it's been alternative therapies all the way.

Tangerine Thu 09-Jul-20 10:50:41

He looks unwell to me. Apart from having hadCovid, he must be living with immense strain.
