And you must learn from ladymuck that I am unable to think for myself.
How did you vote and why today
Sometimes it’s just the small things that press the bruise isn’t it? 😢
Voting. I’m so glad we still have the ‘old fashioned’ system…

I was sent this today by a good friend.
Doe this resonate?
Thoughts please.
Who Am I?
I used to think I was just a regular person, but I was born white,
which now, whether I like it or not, makes me a racist.
I am a fiscal and moral conservative, which by today's standards,
makes me a fascist.
I am heterosexual, which now makes me a homophobe.
I am mostly non-union, which makes me a traitor to the working class
and an ally of big business.
I was christened by my parents, which now labels me as an infidel.
I am retired, which makes me useless.
I think and I reason, therefore I doubt much that the main stream
media tells me, which must make me a reactionary.
I am proud of my heritage, which makes me a xenophobe.
I value my safety and that of my family and I appreciate the police
and the legal system, which makes me a right-wing extremist.
I believe in hard work, fair play, and fair compensation according to
each individual's merits, which today makes me an anti-socialist.
I (and most of the folks I know), acquired a fair education without
student loan debts and little or no debt, which makes me some kind of
an odd underachiever.
I believe in the defence and protection of my country and I honour
those who served in the Armed Forces, which now makes me a right
wing-militant.
Please help me come to terms with the new me... because I'm just not
sure who the hell I am anymore!
Funny ...it’s all just taken place over the last 10 to 15 years!
As if all this wasn’t enough to deal with ... now I’m not even sure
which lavatory to go into!
And you must learn from ladymuck that I am unable to think for myself.
Now, Missfoodlove....I hope you have read through the responses to your post and learned from them.
You need to find yourself a site where the members are open-minded, free-thinking and not afraid to face up to reality. There are such sites on the internet if you look. Sadly, this is not one of them.
I don't think I'll look.
Once seen, can't be unseen.
No, it's not. I don't really know where that came from either.
Some of the "Karen" videos are so awful, I thought they were spoofs when I first saw them. It's unbelievable that they're real people.
It's not very kind, is it.
I know a Sharon and Tracy too!
Callistemon
That is very unfair to all the Karens I know who are all lovely, caring people, Firecracker.
"Karen" has become a thing on social media with videos of people behaving just as mentioned. I have no idea why they're called "Karen". Maybe it's from a sitcom, just as Sharon and Tracy became pejorative.

I do wonder where this drivel originated _ the Daily Express? the Daily Mail? or possibly the Conservative Woman website?
Maybe a vox pop of a UKIP convention?
I’m sure it was never universal - just that it wasn’t uncommon and I’d guess rooted in the fact that in some areas there’s a large Jewish community. It’s never been widespread here and certainly never mandated. However, just ordinary politeness means I say enjoy the holidays, or happy holidays when I’m in the company of Jewish or Moslem colleagues in the run up to Christmas and we’re going off for the Christmas break. Who wouldn’t? If there were a god, I’m sure he’d be the same. Remember Dave Allen - May your god go with you?
suzie you're right, I can vaguely remember a Bing Crosby-type song like that.
But I don't think the March girls in Little Women talked about 'happy holidays', in fact I think the opening sentence was Jo grumbling about Christmas not being Christmas this year, so I'm not sure when things changed over there!
Couldn’t resist popping back - some people think it was meant to be funny? Oh come on.
I find it jingoistic
I can't even imagine the type person that this would appeal to, oh hang on...
What a load of old whatnots
jane I remember old black and white US movies which mentioned ‘happy holidays’ it’s not recent in the States is it?
Are we supposed to take some enlightenment from this or is it someone’s idea of humour?
I don't like it. I think a lot of it is completely untrue and rather silly. And if meant to be funny, it isn't!
It doesn't happen in the UK very much, though, janeainsworth. though I expect that there must be a market for people who follow a non-christian religions. My point was, though, that the name of the festival, Christmas, wasn't being officially changed/banned. People thought it was.
It's like all the nonsense a few years ago when people really believed that the festival on 25th December couldn't be known as Christmas any longer. Wasn't true but people got very upset about it
Actually Maizie I’ve been in the USA several times at Christmas, and you hardly see the word Christmas anywhere.
Cards are ‘holiday’ cards.
Stores wish their customers ‘Happy Holidays’.
My DGC don’t do nativity plays or anything Christmas related.
My co-grandparents, who are practising Catholics, do get upset about it.
I find it quite sad. Even if you’re not a practising Christian, the message of ‘Peace on Earth, Goodwill to all Men’ is surely a universal one.
To return to the OP, I don’t identify with any of those statements & agree with whoever said it was dangerous. It does have a Trump-supporting, American flavour, I think.
I'm the same age as you Grandad, and I echo everything written in your excellent post. With hindsight the cold war was a bit scary,!!! but I think with the lack of social media we weren't so much aware of this. Our parents probably were!!!!
People seemed less angry, but we were young and again perhaps optimistic and hopeful so we didn't notice!!
Haha Varian, I vote CEW or the nazi paper.
Sounds like someone who doesn’t want to share the privilege they’ve had all their lives and is disgruntled that they’re now expected to.
I do wonder where this drivel originated _ the Daily Express? the Daily Mail? or possibly the Conservative Woman website?
I actually think things like this can be quite dangerous as they can generate a sense of grievance in people, when the things it's claiming is actually based on the flimsyist (sp
)of evidence. It's like all the nonsense a few years ago when people really believed that the festival on 25th December couldn't be known as Christmas any longer. Wasn't true but people got very upset about it.
It also can make them angry and direct their anger against the perceived perpetrators of their 'loss'.
I'm not sure that it was intended to be lighthearted.
Basically, it's just a right wing rant which expresses the views of those who wish to retain the right to exercise their various prejudices, whilst presenting themselves as victims.
After such a long list of complaints, I wonder how it can be stated that "you can't say anything any more".
I don't consider it to be amusing or light hearted. Quite the contrary.
That is very unfair to all the Karens I know who are all lovely, caring people, Firecracker.
Speaking personally I enjoy the light hearted. We can’t be angst and aggression all the time. I don’t take myself too seriously or toss my beliefs around as gospel. Let’s take the OP as it was meant.
