The former Director of Public Prosecutions ignored the legal advice and made a political (personal) decision to make the apology and fork out members money with over a six-figure payout to the so-called whistleblowers. labourheartlands.com/sir-keir-starmer-gives-a-grovelling-apology-and-a-bung-to-those-that-worked-hardest-to-harm-the-labour-party/?fbclid=IwAR0Z01sabF3Mm5j2a4G1UD5Oc_d6msF5CfnCtXGpa1urvoMW62udxQLW45c

Carole Morgan is organising this fundraiser.
It is reported that John Ware a reporter for Panorama is taking legal action for libel against former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. The relentless attacks on Mr Corbyn, a man of integrity, honesty and humility cannot be allowed to continue and we have an opportunity here to offer him support in a practical way. It will also let him know that his supporters have not forgotten him, nor have they gone away.

A Go Fund Me for Mr Corbyn has raised a quarter of a million so far in just a few days.

A study from Loughborough University has shone a light on how the media joined together to rig the election in favour of Boris Johnson and his Conservative Party, and against Jeremy Corbyn.

Starmer is now the Labour leader but is he Establishment a red Tory?
Lots of young people have left Labour and given their reasons They knew what Corbyn stood for What does Starmer stand for?

What on earth does it matter how much the gofund page is.

Grandad1943 Sat 25-Jul-20 22:39:34

Iam64 in regard to your above post @22:16 today, there has been factional infighting and "turmoil" in the Parliamentary Labour party for more than twelve years. In that, there is a widespread view in the broader Labour Movement that such factionalism has to be brought to an end.

I believe that for the broader Labour movement to "salvage" the party from its self-inflicted oncoming bankruptcy will be the insistence on the closure of the Parliamentary Party Central Office and the PLP moving much closer to the Broader Labour movement in the country.

Should it be that Steve Taylor is elected as General Secretary of the Unite Union, which now seems highly likely, the leadership for such reforms will come from him in that office.

Chewbacca Sat 25-Jul-20 23:09:00

The GoFundMe page now stands at £253.700 and rising.

That may be so Grany but it doesn't mean a thing does it? Because if Corbyn's "supporters" had been in the majority, then he'd be sat in 10 Downing Street by now. But he isn't. Because not enough people believed in him and put an X on a ballot paper. And it wasn't the nasty bunch of Blairites wot did it; it was Corbyn himself, who seemed to think he was some kind of latter day Che Guevara. Whereas Starmer sees himself as a leader of the Labour Party and future Prime Minister. Corbyn could have had it all.... But he blew it.

Grandad1943 Sat 25-Jul-20 23:27:26

It is Starmer's right-wing of the Labour party that has brought the organisation to the brink of bankruptcy. He will now have to turn to the traditional left in the broader Labour movement to salvage the Parliamentary party or he will have no organised party to lead.

All who worship the virtues of "SIR" Kier Starmer should think on that.

Of course, he could always sale the Party to the Bankers and Rupert Murdock as Blair did, but I think we can all remember what that action brought about.

Chewbacca Sat 25-Jul-20 23:36:14

You could well be right Grandad; but the fact remains that Corbyn was, and still is, disliked by the majority of voters. It's impossible to get beyond that because what matters is getting that all important X on the ballot paper, and he just couldn't do it.

trisher Sun 26-Jul-20 00:03:50

Why Corbyn "is disliked by the majority of voters" is interesting, possibly because it was virtually impossible to find a story in the media that didn't castigate him.
The payment made by Keir Starmer indicates amongst other things a distrust of the legal system (what would have happened if they were found to be at fault?) and a belief that he has the power to give away party money whenever he likes. Perhaps it suited him more to pretend there was a case, rather than have to admit Corbyn was stitched up. Anyway it looks like he believes he is the Labour Party and not its members.
John Ware has a history of producing programmes with bias. The BBC had to pay substantial libel charges because he made false claims about a Muslim charity.

Ramblingrose22 Sun 26-Jul-20 01:17:27

It is possible that Jeremy Corbyn was disliked by the majority of voters because of his prevarication over Brexit and because the party's manifesto, which he said was "fantastic", was so long and had so many promises that it was regarded as undeliverable.

Now we can argue that people were wrong to take this view of Jeremy Corbyn or of the manifesto but that is what happened and that IMHO is why Labour lost.

As for Keir Starmer, he won a handsome majority in the leadership election and the candidate favoured by Corbyn and his supporters did badly. Voters in that election also wanted a change!

As to whether there should or should not have been a payment to the whistleblowers no-one can judge until we know more about what really went on.

It's a shame that the Equalities and Human Rights Commission report was not ready to be published before this legal case came to court but hopefully it will shed light on what happened and who is telling the truth.

Furret Sun 26-Jul-20 07:08:04

Starmer has dealt with this as he saw fit. The man had to make a difficult choice and he made it. While I think that Corbyn is a good and genuine man, he lacked the ability to lead and unite his party.

In Brexit he shilly-shallied. Even with an idiot like Boris lying his way to victory, he failed.

Starmer has shown himself to be a capable of showing Boris up as the blustering buffoon he really is at PMQs and has drawn a line under the anti-semitism row, showing some in the party that he will act swiftly and decisively.

So well done on both fronts.

Grandad1943 Sun 26-Jul-20 07:54:51

Furret in regard to your post @07:08 today, Starmer has not drawn a line under the anti-semitism allegations against the Labour party. In that, there are still two reports to be published on the matter, and they will result in prosecutions and claims that will cost the party upward of seven million pounds.

The foregoing will in all probability bring about the insistence of huge economies and the restructuring of the Parliamentary party by the broader Labour movement in the country.

That, I believe, will see the closure of the Labour Party Central Office, and the merger of the General Secretaries Office to within the TUC headquarters returning the Parliamentary Labour Party once more as an integral part on the wider Labour movement.

If Starmer wishes to have a party to lead then within the next twelve months the acceptance of the above may well be his only option.

Anniebach Sun 26-Jul-20 08:23:31

I did say Corbyn would bring about the death of the Labour
Party.

Iam64 Sun 26-Jul-20 08:37:17

I read on line this morning that some of those donating to the Go Fund Me page are adding anti semitic comments to their posts. I haven't read the posts so can't confirm or otherwise. My belief is that under Corbyn's leadership anti semitism found a home in the LP . Some either don't understand their comments are anti semitic, or use various disingenuous comments in an attempt to disguise their true beliefs. There are some who seem unable to recognise the way they express support for the people of Palestine is AS. I shouldn't need to add that its possible to criticise the behaviour of the current Israeli government without being anti semitic.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Jul-20 10:06:32

The reports are expected to be widely critical of Corbyn and his supporters in failing to get to grip with the AS in the party. Corbyn may well find himself subject to litigation, and he may well need every last penny if that fund.

Starmer is determined to draw a line and if this costs - so be it.

Without dealing with this sore, the LP can’t move on.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Jul-20 10:16:41

Starmer is keen to protect labour finances and understands that a settlement out of court will be 10s of thousands of pounds cheaper than taking the case to court which could result in a bill for millions.

He is being both realistic and sensible.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Jul-20 10:19:11

Apparently the Tories are keen to keep this Corbyn is due running for as long as possible as they are finding it impossible to find any dirt or problems with Starmer. Starmer has become a real worry for the Tories, consequently Tory bots are being employed to continue with the dirt on Corbyn.

nightowl Sun 26-Jul-20 10:28:48

Could anyone point me to the anti Semitic comments on the gofundme page? This is a genuine question, as I’ve spent the last hour (when I really don’t have time) looking for these but I can’t see any comments at all on the gofundme site. Lots of links to the media reporting this but no actual comments. I’m genuinely confused.

Alexa Sun 26-Jul-20 10:33:36

I don't understand how racist can be confused with Zionist. Not all Jews are Zionists.

Galaxy Sun 26-Jul-20 10:37:04

I cant see any comments. I can see screen names of famous Jewish people. They probably arent quite stupid enough to use direct anti semitism. Pathetic pathetic people.

Chewbacca Sun 26-Jul-20 10:37:31

It's interesting to see the names of those who have donated.

Grany Sun 26-Jul-20 10:39:21

The former Labour leader was the victim of a carefully planned and brutally executed political assassination

He was never given a chance. Not by the bulk of Labour’s parliamentary party and many officials, some of whom (we are now learning) campaigned harder against their elected leader than they did against the Tory government. Not by senior figures connected to the British state, including former spy chiefs, military officers and civil servants, all of whom should have known much better.

Lie after lie was told about Corbyn, day after day, month after month. For the last four years very few journalists have bothered to do their job to fact-check the claims and report fairly on him.

Sir Keir Starmer, a barrister by training, please note: due process matters. It has been absent for the last four years in the party you now head.

Jeremy Corbyn is still hounded in a cafe by journalists one was rude to his wife Lara. The Establishment are running scared they do not want socialism, neoliberal status quo

At least the GoFundMe money will help.

Starmer has several backers hedge fund, Bankers what will they want in return.

Anniebach Sun 26-Jul-20 10:48:53

Some Labour Party members think the money donated should be given to food banks

Galaxy Sun 26-Jul-20 10:52:11

I am sure he needs legal advice from ransoms on the internet.

Galaxy Sun 26-Jul-20 10:52:49

Or randoms if you prefer grin

No one has any details of what the two forthcoming reports may contain. The report from the Race & Equalities Commission was due to be released more than two months ago and it is not known why the delay has come about.

However, the above Commission did state they would not take into account any matters that were contained within the internal leaked report that deals with the actions of Central Office employees. In that report it is alleged those employees withheld information from both the Labour Leaders office and that of the General Secretaries office that would have enabled those bodies to deal with many allegations of anti-semitism against members. That report also has given rise to the allegations of employed Central Office Staff working against the elected leader of the Labour party to the extent of even attempting to prevent Labour winning the 2018 general election.

It is now being "speculated" that the delay to the Race & Equality
Commission report may be due to that body now having decided to include evidence from the leaked report into their own publication.

Of course, Starmer worshipers on this forum never wish to discuss that it has been the right of the Labour party working, possibly illegally, within the Labour Party Central Office that has brought the organisation to the brink of the financial and political abyss it now faces.

MaizieD Sun 26-Jul-20 11:07:08

On a slightly different 'angle', we know that many of the people named in the leaked report are preparing to sue the Labour Party for breaches of the data protection act.

Is Starmer supposed to pick up the tab for that, too? Seeing that it was his 'enemies' within the LP who orchestrated the leak...

This feels more and more dystopian to me.

Amused to find that I, and other supporters of Labour policies, seem to have been transformed from Corbyn lovers to Starmer lovers ???

This is a very real example of how Corbyn has been treated by the media and by people who simply don't bother to investigate something they are. told. There are no comments at all on the Go Fund Me site. But someone has chosen to spread this falsehood on social media which has resulted in claims once again that Corbyn supporters are anti-semitic. It is almost like Chinese whispers but it is actually much worse. It is seeking to blacken someone's name and the people who have supported that person. It is insiduous and dangerous because although I can prove that there are no posts the memory of the accusation will remain in the public mind. So that when Corbyn is spoken about people will say "Oh I remember something about his supporters and anti-semitic comments."
