Following on from the thread about the so called tobacco colour bra which caused upset among certain people what do you think of these s lyrics shock

Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I bet your mama was a Cajun Queen,
And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen
I'm no school boy but I know what I like
You should have heard them just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
How come you, how come you dance so good
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
Just like a, just like a black girl should
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo

Wow lindiann never heard that one before and to think I used to like Rolf Harris when I was young shock

“ Only Sixteen” by Craig Douglas. (I think)

We’d laugh and we’d sing and do little things, that made my heart glow

To be fair, he was meant to be only 16 also.

Goodness not Cliff but the police did investigate him lol shock

"Every Step You Take" by The Police - definitely a stalker's song and very doubtful, IMO....

Dinahmo Fri 14-Aug-20 13:01:47

Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen's words. Beautiful, but capable of interpretation.

The Rolf Harris horror was when he was a guest on Andrew Denton’s Musical Challenge on a Sydney radio show. I think.
It was never released as a single. Far too horrific. Even before his crimes were exposed

I do like the Divinyls' version though

TrendyNannie6 Fri 14-Aug-20 13:22:33

Jake the peg with his extra leg Rolf Harris, every breathe you take the police

When I saw the thread title I had a brief trip down Memory Lane to when I saw Jagger first perform this in his pink satin jacket. I don't think I had the least idea what the lyrics were really about.

How about offending the curvylicious people?

"Hey fatty bum bum!"

Starblaze Fri 14-Aug-20 14:27:41

What's interesting about this thread is that everyone does have a clear idea about what song lyrics are offensive

Not at all

Starblaze Fri 14-Aug-20 14:30:59

Explain?

Oopsminty Fri 14-Aug-20 14:35:54

I like the Divinyls' song . I don't find it offensive.

Casdon Fri 14-Aug-20 14:36:25

I don’t find the lyrics to Brown Sugar offensive, he is describing how beautiful she is, how well she dances etc. I do find ‘Every Step You Take’ very creepy though.

Starblaze Fri 14-Aug-20 14:36:38

Oh, OK then

Fennel Fri 14-Aug-20 14:39:02

The Beatles - Get Back.
I never thought of the words as racist until it disappeared from their rooftop concert.
But I found it on another link (I think)
