Where's the P.M.? Shouldn't he be in view, not hiding away ?

Look at the disruptions of recent days;
Exam results and fudged response from Education secretary , passing the buck, stretching the truth about when he really knew about the algorithm,

increase in covid figures
;
Migrants in small boats and Patel's response,

News of contract to work on Ofqual awarded to long term associates of Gove and Cummings without tender.

Not removing whip from MP accused of rape.

So it goes on .Surely a P.M worth his salt should give the nation the impression he is in charge. As usual Johnson is nowhere to be seen.

Furious farmer reveals Boris Johnson 'climbed over his fence to set up 8ft tent WITHOUT permission and lit a dangerous campfire before fleeing Highlands holiday cottage'... leaving his MINDERS to clean up

The farmer was probably an SNP plonker with an agenda smile

Not sure if this is sarcasm, its difficult to tell online. smile But just wanted to point out that in Scotland its not just SNP plonkers with agendas that think Boris is a waste of space.

That said, if he had to cut short his holiday because of the press I think that's a real pity, even though I do think he's a waste of space.

lemongrove says
I should think they only went to Scotland as a nod to solidarity with it, and will choose Cornwall next time

I expect you're right.
Just a short, meaningless gesture with no proper thought behind the practicalities of doing it.

Has Wilfred got smaller?

The so called tent opening was facing the sea not the cottage. How ridiculous for some on here to think the security team actually used it lol ?. The cottage was secure and isolated but because someone leaked the PM was staying there he had to leave.

That is the first time I can remember when a PM has “had” to leave his chosen holiday destination because the press discovered it.

Bit wimpy really.

Cameron stayed, May stayed, Blair stayed, everyone really.

Bit pathetic.

Elegran

I would imagine he went as far away from London as he could, to get away from it all with his girl-friend and baby for a while. A cottage in Applecross overlooking the sea must have seemed like heaven. Then someone probably insisted that he took security men with him - most likely city men with no camping experience (that tent didn't look very well put up)

It is a pity that no-one worked out before the cottage was booked that a tiny remote cottage is not as handy for accommodating a couple of hulking great security men as a hotel room across the corridor. The tent seems an afterthought when no other rentals could be found within miles. I bet they spent one hell of a night in it, tormented by midges, the sea thundering on to rocks, no mod cons. I look forward to reading their autobiographies in due course. Unless, of course, they have signed non-disclosure affidavits.

The decision to try to accommodate all the security as well as the PM and hangers on is on a par with the decisions made by this government.

Totally incompetent.

Actually the Scottish farmer did say he supported Scottish Independence and he's managed to get his 5 minutes of fame probably got paid as well, job well done it seems.

JenniferEccles Sun 23-Aug-20 10:00:18

I did wonder why Boris hadn’t chosen to holiday here in the south where the weather is so much better.

Maybe a lovely secluded cottage in, say, south Devon would have been a good bet.

I can’t imagine for one minute that they spent even one night in that small flimsy looking tent!

I wouldn’t mind betting there will be pictures of him on a sun-drenched beach on a Caribbean island at some point over Christmas and New Year!!

Ellianne Sun 23-Aug-20 09:37:57

I'm sure Boris will win that one lemongrove.
He might need to practise singing sea shanties if he comes west though!

lemongrove Sun 23-Aug-20 09:33:08

Cornwall will welcome him with open arms next year Ellianne if he sticks to his commitment on the fisheries policy and doesn’t allow EU to have their way.Otherwise he would be pursued with pitchforks.
A crab sarnie for me too please, with a chilled Chilean white wine.?

lemongrove Sun 23-Aug-20 09:26:47

Can we come to yours biba are Swiss farmers all still carrying guns these days?

Ellianne Sun 23-Aug-20 09:26:33

Ok, but only if it is lemongrove's suggestion of Cornwall biba. The farmers aren't too angry there and the Cornish fishermen would welcome Boris with open arms! Some freshly caught crab or lobster would be nice. By the way, I only drink French wine. Now there's a conundrum.
grin

biba70 Sun 23-Aug-20 09:14:21

anyone joining me- let's take 2 chairs and a tent and go camping in the garden of those who think it was all fine and dandy- oh and bring some wood too, for a nice big fire ;). I'll bring the wine ;)

lemongrove Sun 23-Aug-20 09:06:43

Goodness me!?The interest in this tent/chairs goes on, it’s
Probably more exciting to have a hot shower Elegran anyway.
I should think they only went to Scotland as a nod to solidarity with it, and will choose Cornwall next time ( fab scenery and no midges.)Possibly no angry farmers enjoying their five minutes of fame either.?

Elegran Sun 23-Aug-20 08:59:48

If the field does go with the rental of the cottage, the rental pages will state that. I can't be bothered looking to find out, I should be under a hot shower by now. I have things to do.

Iam64 Sun 23-Aug-20 08:55:00

The farmer has no reason to lie. He said the people using the tent used two dining chairs from the house to climb over the fence onto his land, rather than use the gate. They didn't ask permission to put the tent or, more importantly, didn't ask permission to light a camp fire.
It's shoddy isn't it. The Johnson team appear to have behaved like so many other staycation holiday makers, with disregard for the countryside. At least, someone took the tent down, rather than simply abandon it for the farmer to deal with as so many people have in the Lake District.

Elegran Sun 23-Aug-20 08:54:53

I believe that even travelling people, who like to make camp where they choose, are aware that a closed gate (if this one was closed) makes them liable to a charge of trespass on private land, which is one of the reasons country people always close a gate into somewhere they don't want tents or caravans.

Ellianne Sun 23-Aug-20 08:53:09

Everyone is free to interpret the various contradictory reports as they wish, and to have fun.
Exactly Elegran, we do have to lighten up a bit with all this gloomy news and dreary weather going on!
My turn again now, if you look at the wooden dining chairs by the fence they are the exact same ones from the cottage shown on the rental pages. So it was definitely intentional to climb to the other side. I've a feeling it was the security chaps, I can't really see Boris lugging chairs out from the cottage and over the fence?

Elegran Sun 23-Aug-20 08:49:50

I posted that if one thing was true, then something else must have been obvious. We know nothing about the farmer's political affiliations, which was what was being assumed was the reason he complained about trespassing on his land. Nothing to do with believing every bit of title-tattle.

Firecracker123 Sun 23-Aug-20 08:28:40

Jabberwok Everyone is free to interpret the various contradictory reports as they wish, and to have fun.

That's what I was doing with the SNP plonker farmer with an agenda but you didn't seem to like that did you. Seems its only the Conservative party that you can ridicule.

Jabberwok Sun 23-Aug-20 08:16:37

Isn't it amazing that everyone seems to DEFINITELY KNOW that every bit of tittle tattle is true beyond doubt! Its jbeyond ridiculous,

Jabberwok Sun 23-Aug-20 08:12:44

They didn't have to climb over the fence, if you read the article properly, there was a gate which according to the ever truthful DM, they chose not to use!!!

Elegran Sun 23-Aug-20 07:32:21

If he had to climb over a fence it must have been obvious that it didn't belong to the cottage.
