Is Boris Johnson planning to retire as U.K. prime minister in six months?
That’s the eye-catching claim in the Times, which cited a conversation one of its readers had with the father-in-law of Dominic Cummings, Johnson’s chief adviser.
According to the newspaper’s Diary column, Humphry Wakefield chatted to Times reader Anna Silverman when she visited his castle in northeast England last week. Johnson, Wakefield is reported to have said, is still suffering the after-effects of his coronavirus infection and will never fully recover, and therefore plans to resign early next year.

With the U.K. ever fully recover from the unholy alliance of BoJo and DomCum though?

All that hassle does explain the price then!

If I was famous ( even moderately so)?that cottage wouldn’t have suited me.
The remoteness was obviously a factor....but imagine being both in a SNP stronghold and midges!Shudder.

Oh for a minute there I thought you had written 'infamous' rather than famous grin Must sort out my reading glasses. Apart from that not really sure why holidaying in a SNP stronghold is any different from a Tory/Labour/Libdem stronghold.

That holiday home might have been mine. We were instructed to pitch a tent with a strong light inside so that local gossips could speculate on the identity of the evening occupants, we had to rent babies of various sizes so that dates couldn't be proven if photos were taken and we had to employ various cleaners and instruct them to tell differing stories in the local pub so that all sides could leak the story of their choice.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-Aug-20 14:05:22

Are there any photos of him by the cottage?

No I'm sure the DM won't be chasing anyone else, but what's to stop the owner or staff seeking out any news outlet if they think there is a juicy bit of gossip to be had?! Anyone even remotely 'famoue' staying there now will always be aware that their privacy could be compromised.

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 11:54:24

It's not as if the the 'owner and cleaner' told paddyanne intimate details of Johnson's stay in the the cottage.
Do you know that for sure MaizieD?

Who's to know except the poster mentioned and the owner and cleaner?
There could be more, people are always eager to spill the beans especially if a drop of red wine is spilt.

Chewbacca Thu 27-Aug-20 11:53:32

Indeed not Callistemon, but then he's not exactly known for his joined up thinking is he?

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 11:50:33

Of course, it may not have been the best choice of location in an SNP stronghold. hmm

Chewbacca Thu 27-Aug-20 11:42:23

You seem to have missed the fact that everyone already knew about it, thanks to the DM.

I haven't missed anything MaisieD and, quite frankly, I couldn't give a shiny sh*t where Boris and his entourage have their holidays! You're so eager to leap on any poster that you perceive to be a Tory supporter that you frequently jump to the wrong conclusion entirely. And you've done it again regarding my post @ 10.59. If you go back and read it again, very carefully, you'll see that it simply points out that having indiscreet staff, who can't keep their mouths shut, is not a good business model, especially in the high end hospitality industry. Having a blabbermouth on the payroll isn't a good idea where "famous" guests are involved.

MaizieD Thu 27-Aug-20 11:13:26

No doubt the cottage owners will lose some business as privacy cannot be guaranteed.

Oh, sure.

Who else is the media likely to go chasing after through Scotland to discover their secret hideaway? Not a lot of candidates I would imagine.

I expect they'll do a roaring trade with Johnson fans clamouring to stay in the same cottage as their idol...

Jabberwok Thu 27-Aug-20 11:13:15

Exactly Chewbacca! Gossiping about clients/customers when running any business is not a good or recommended path to success! The fact of the Daily Mail snooping around is no excuse for indiscretion by staff or worse still owners , even if the financial reward is tempting! Staff risk becoming jobless, while owners risk insolvency!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Aug-20 11:09:53

*beforehand. *before

my old iPad is on its last legs, waiting for the sim for new one, so I apologise in advance for typos. I had no idea that technology could become dyslexic/confused with age ?

Indiscretion isn't a crime MaisieD, it's just not a good reputation for a business to have is it? If guests don't have the confidence that the accommodation owner, and his staff, can keep their mouths shut about who stays there, and what they do whilst they're there, those who can afford £1500 for a few days holiday might take their business elsewhere.

You seem to have missed the fact that everyone already knew about it, thanks to the DM.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 27-Aug-20 11:07:48

Ian Blackford SNP put on his twitter feed such a hint that it would have been easy to find the cottage.......beforehand the Daily Mail.

No doubt the cottage owners will lose some business as privacy cannot be guaranteed.

Jabberwok Thu 27-Aug-20 11:02:23

Oh dear! Yes did.!!! Message to myself, remember to proof read!!!

^Nice. I’m glad I’m not in the public eye, with the owner and cleaner of my holiday cottage gossiping about their paying guests.^

I agree, whoever the guests are.

This is utterly ridiculous. It's not as if the the 'owner and cleaner' told paddyanne intimate details of Johnson's stay in the the cottage.

The actual place itself was hardly a secret after the Mail had tracked it down and published photos of it. Anyone with a bit of internet nous could work out exactly where it was and find its details on line (and many people did just that).

So exactly what crime did the owner and cleaner commit when they told paddyanne that Johnson had been there?

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 10:12:09

Did you mean £1,500 Jabberwok?

£15 per week sounds a bit cheap but £1,500 per week for a nondescript cottage in the back of beyond sounds a rip-off.
I'd expect something better.

Callistemon Thu 27-Aug-20 10:08:28

Jabberwok Thu 27-Aug-20 08:57:52

I doubt it was the owner, surely not!!!! Hardly a very good advertisement especially at £15.00 a week!!

Jabberwok Thu 27-Aug-20 08:48:20

Exactly Maggiemaybe, I totally agree. If this is indeed true, then I wonder if this person is still the housekeeper, as who knows what confidence they will gossip about next?!!!

Jabberwok Thu 27-Aug-20 08:45:22

Presumably the housekeeper is a personal friend of yours Paddyann and this info isn't hearsay? In any case how, where, and when the PM spent his holiday is nothing to do with you or anyone else, so why the sneers?!

Maggiemaybe Thu 27-Aug-20 08:43:58

paddyanne

jabberwok information straight from the owner and the cleaner of the house they rented ...that good enough for you?

Nice. I’m glad I’m not in the public eye, with the owner and cleaner of my holiday cottage gossiping about their paying guests.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 27-Aug-20 08:06:25

I’m interested in who they are going to blame once they got through the civil service.

We will have lost expertise built up over years and years and shipped in idiots like Abbott.

Talk about a race to the bottom. He can join Truss bumping along the floor. I bet the Australians can’t believe their luck!
